Here I decided to use a registration described by Johann Friedrich Doles in around 1769. Doles was a pupil of J.S. Bach. The particularity here is having a 16' and a 4' as solo registration in the right hand.
Another Bach pupil, Johann Friedrich Agricola, did recommend the registration 16' 4' for trios. He recommended a Quintadena 16' or Hohlflöte 16', which were typical manual stops, which shows also Agricola had it in mind for a manual in the trio.

This is very satisfying. I often think when an 8 and 2 get too near the top of the keyboard in settings like this it's loses its vocal quality especially when people use a sesquialtera! But 16 and 4 seems to be just right. I suppose Bach's students knew what they were doing!

I’m not convinced about this. The overtones of the 8’ quintadena seem to overpower the solo voice in places.
