George Benjamin wrote a major work in 1982, "At First Light". Everything he wrote before and after is so dull (though well written) that it almost makes you think he had someone else write that one notable work for him!
Interesting perspective! He can be quite "academic" (if that's still the politically correct term) and this certainly isn't my favorite of his works or anything... "Written on Skin" and "Dream of the Song" are where his writing really shines in my opinion.
Hello ! As a fellow composer student i think these pieces are beatiful and very well made 🙏🏻 it inspired me to make short pieces like these and combine them for a project, thank you so much for the beatiful art!
GB is a fine musician, is intelligent, generally likeable, and has a marvellous ear, but his music has zero personality. He’s been massively hyped by his publishers, the BBC and the Establishment generally. Of course he was Messiaen’s blue-eyed boy, so that did him no harm at the start of his meteoric career. Plenty of money helped too, of course. Not quite the Emperor’s new clothes perhaps, but close.
All of it is complete trash. Not evem worth a thought. Whoever composed it should have never ever even tried composition, and if they are still alive, I hope they've given it up for good. The fact that you even deem knots to be "interesting" is baffling, considering that I am certain even you in the back of your troglodyte mind, you understand that it is literally just random noise. There's nothing interesting about random noise.
