All these musician's from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's don't realize what contribution to human history they were involved in. All of this golden era of music will be remembered for millennial.
Can only imagine this banger in an 80s nightclub, thumping through a quality soundsystem and shaking the dancefloor. What a floorfiller it must have been.
the atmosphere back then was so different, i grew up in the rock and roll industry, was hitting up black music clubs at 14 with my friends, grew with hiphop as it took root, evolved into rave culture, jungle drum and bass and beyond but being a kid in a pre internet, pre mobile phone world was something almost impossible to describe to anybody born after the 1980s i guess, subcultural movements took dedication back then, it wasnt a click of the mouse, next next next type involvement, you kind of had to physical commit quite a large chunk of yourself to be part of communities that revolved around sounds like this because it wasnt available via mainstream delivery systems
@Booshank23. Words can't explain how great it was and the women were drop dead gorgeous. It was a wonderful time to be a young man back then and I would give anything to go back but sadly those days will never return.
One of the finest songs EVER Written. People have certain songs they feel to make the troubles go away. This is the song I go to whenever I am feeling down. It makes my day 200% better...
Reminds me of dancing with my mom. She would do the hustle with me while getting ready for the club. Mixed emotions cuz life kinda sucked for us in Spanish Harlem. 70s and 80s were hard in NYC with no dad in the house. Mom was young and from the islands (Puerto Rico). She had no clue how to live in a city. I guess she did the best she could given her situation.
your mum did the best she could given her situation. i've never been in this type of situation being a white scot but i really hope your mum danced the best she could and realised that her version of the hustle was always the best. she's a queen.
You just had to enjoy yourself. Found myself in NYC in the same situation however stayed positive and whenever I had a chance I danced to George Benson and other great songs and singers of that era to stay out of trouble.
I'm 15, and a music producer. I'm very impressed with the composition of this. My parents are from the 60s and constsntly listen to music from the 70s and 80s. This one has caught my eye for a while, a swing rhythm with upbeat but slow vocals, with strings mixed in. This is a very good and ahead of it's time song. George Benson has some of the most futuristic music for his era.
Can you hear those Rod Temperton keys and that clean punchy Quincy studio sound. What a Trifecta! Benson, Jones, and Temperton,: musical excellence on display!
i was in my very early teens when i 1st heard this song,George Benson,im 55 now and still listen to it,absolute gold, who can honestly say they'l be listening to todays crap in 40-50 years time
Yes, but it's a dyed in the wool '70's song! It's always the trouble with the decade hand-over years! The new decade is just an infant without a fixed personality yet. BUT, half of the prior decade was definitely building up to it! So it's 50/50, but I would agree this song is way more 70's than what would become '80's music.
Whenever dark has fallen You know the spirit of the party starts to come alive Until the day is dawning You can throw out all your blues and hit the city lights 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) You need the evening action A place to dine, a glass of wine a little late romance It's a chain reaction You'll see the people of the world coming out to dance 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) So come on out tonight And we'll lead the others on a ride through paradise And if you feel all right Then we can be lovers 'Cause I see that starlight look in your eyes And don't you know we can fly? Just give me the night Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) ‘Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) So come on out tonight And we'll lead the others on a ride through paradise And if you feel all right Then we can be lovers 'cause I see that starlight look in your eyes Don't you know we can fly? And if we stay together We'll feel the rhythm of the evening taking us up high Never mind the weather We'll be dancing in the street until the morning light 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) Give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight) So give me the night (Feelin' evening, alright tonight)
I'm 22 years old & this song makes me feel like I'm on top of the world! Like i'm at a disco club in New York City on a roof top where Everyone is Dressed, Feeling Good, & Feeling this Groove! What a time to be alive. This music is infinite.
I had basically just arrived. When I was old enough to understand I knew this was what they called a hit. Lol This and Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" were being played everyday all day. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q7oTQ8QjdAc.html
George is a stellar talent, but don't forget he went to the boss to help him cross over from jazz to mainstream R&B/Pop/Soul... Quincy! Quincy! The 'Q' gets fresher and with Rod Temperton (the hit meister), James Ingram, Greg Phillinganes, Patti Austin and West Coast pop chart hero Michael McDonald in support, George couldn't really lose :) The teams next smash? Thriller with Michael J
I remember hearing this song when I was a kid driving in the station wagon with my mom. ya known the wagon.....brown pleather seats, two knobs on the radio, roll up windows(with no air of course) and wood grain down the sides!! I think it was an 80'!! me n my sis would sing along with mom!! ha ha!! funny how you remember all that just from hearing a song!!
Marc Sciarrotta Ooh my goodness, yes!! The 3 rd row faced the back, a total hazard!! Lmao My dad actually bought me one for my 16 th birthday cuz he wanted as much steel between myself and the other cars lol. I would take 9 of my friends in it to the beach cranking up this!!
Cause if its music in the air, lots of lovin' everywhere So give me the night!!! Timeless...ageless...amazing arrangement!! There is no such thing as ol skool music to me. Just call it great music!
the only time I saw my mother and father together happy. had to be in the 1970s . I was in the back seat of his mgm on the Bay Bridge when this song came on the radio. probably the best couple of minutes of my life. I wish I could take those times back
Look up the clips Benson did for Ibanez guitars to celebrate his fortieth anniversary playing the model that bears his name. If you just hear him talk, he's just the coolest, down-to-earth jazz cat you could ever hear talk, you just want to sit down and have a drink with the guy.
Summer/Fall 1980. Her name was Yvette. Pretty little brown girl from the bronx. This little brown boy from Fresno was too shy to talk to her. This song reminds me of her from all those years ago. I hope that God blessed her with a fruitful life in the Love of our Lord and our Sovereign God.
I was in college in 1980 when I got the album with this song. Never to this day, do I get tired of hearing this song. My favorite G.B. song for sure. And easy to dance to! Lyrics are "spot on". A " feel good" song if ever there was one! Rock on George!!!!
In 1983, an uncle bought a beautiful, brand new 2-door Grand Marquis and equipped it with a good Pioneer audio system. One night he took a cousin and I to dinner in that car and they were playing this song on the radio. My uncle came on. The volume and rhythm of this song, the car was driving down a boulevard, the atmosphere of the environment with the city lights and the powerful and smooth ride of the car, combined with that song, created a very special moment that I still remember very pleasantly. . beautiful times without a doubt.
this is my dad right here, old man had some moves back in the day & every now and again we see the old boy breaks it down at family events when they play this jam!
So you hear the sophistication of Quincy Jones production. You hear the beautiful Bass of Louis Johnson. You hear the brilliant writing of Rod Temperton. The blues of George Benson's Guitar and silky vocals. Patti Austin on the angel choir
I played this song for my dad. My dad is 66 years old. When he heard this song he became a 26 year old. LOL. Great song. Miss the 80s. And on with the countdown.
George Benson is right outside my job about to perform at the Rochester NY jazz Festival. It's 6/27/19 its 82 degrees out and im just Breezin. So give me the night
FutureSoundStation it is usually the way their mastered to CD...because what we are listening to is probably a straight analog rip to digital file with no eq or compression..nothing truly wrong with vinyl either..it is a natural substance and recreates natural sound...too bad it wears off with every play..
functionalschizophr its also notable that this rip is 240p so must be a very low bitrate. I wish the cd version was mastered in the same way. its far too clean and dull sounding
Love this tune! I'm 26 and when I hear these soulful bangers on late night drives it makes me happy, I like that his track has 45 mil views, talk about timeless
So this really is set apart from a lot of other funk for me, it's relaxed and is torn between a modern chill vibe and a chill disco. Most of my other funk favorites are loud and boisterous, but this is was chill and smooth. Makes me feel like no other song honestly
KILLER SONG!! reminds me of my high school librarian, this middle-aged African guy who LUVED OLD SKOOL R&B like i do, & he played this song all tha time.
It's not more so the music it's those years in general. 60s 70s 80s, look what we were left with. People mush mouthing all you understand is bitch or what ever drug their on. Those days though they were fucked up regarding how strong racism was then, those years still in my eyes are more innocent.
@@khamalybhangra9800 lmao I use to do that too, the last cassette I recorded was like in 2003 and it had some of eminem's first few songs lol. I miss the cassette. Shit I still use CDs.
omg this song makes me feel like i am a little kid again living my life to the fullest! growing up in the 80s (born 75) was seriously the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys have me by a few years. I was born in "79". I remember jamming to this as a kid though. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K_ZlFDqh2rM.html
George Benson man he knows how to play his bass beats so electrifying. Larry Graham of Graham Central Station and the late Bernard Edwards of Chic are the other two bassists that play their powerful beats and George Benson fits that too.
Give Me Thaaa Night! I remember this song so well...my Daddy took me and my sister to see The Stars Wars movie (featuring Billy D Williams) on the big screen...we listened to this on the way to theater. Way to go Daddy!!! That was an AWESOME night!
This was my monster unwind hit back in the day. This song brought me through many hard days. George taught me to fly on the spare of the minute, 🌟 💫 star light 💡 look 👀 in my eyes, on difficult days!!! 🌟🔥🙏🏾👏🤷🏽♀️❤️❤️❤️⚡️Mind over matter, baby!!!!

Imagine being a young person listening to this on the radio during the week while traveling to work, then dancing to this in clubs on the weekends when this first came out. No wonder young people from that time were so cool.
Today is 1st of December 2019! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everybody!!! :))) May your home be filled with sweet, cozy, warm Christmas atmosphere, may your family be truly united in this joyful time of the year:)))🎅🎄🎁
Those people are just stupid kids that keep going "oK BoOmEr" at literally anyone that doesn't instantly agree with their fragile brains and supersized superiority complex. Not much needs to be said, they're idiots that are always convinced they're better just because they're the next generation, despite not knowing how to use a can opener.
