I agree! Today's music is mostly boring. It's so perfectly done with computers and auto-tune. Not all but most of it sounds the same to me. There's nothing distinctive about it
She was also in the classic comedy Night Shift, which starred Michael Keaton in his first big role, Henry Winkler and Shelley Long. One of the funniest movies people sleep on.
He is a great jazz guitarist, but like Herbie Hancock they try some popular music to get some money I guess or popularity.. Jan Hammer had more luck with that.
Wow!! I haven't heard this song in over 30-years and I stopped everything I was doing to come and experience it again here when I got the notification - click that Bell folks - it brings joy!!!
My 86 year old mother is a lifelong fan of George Benson. She took me to his concert when I was a teen. He’s a massive talent. The way he sings with the guitar is unmatched and signature.
George Benson is one of the best guitar players around. He was being groomed by the Jazz community to be the next Wes Montgomery, but he wanted to sing as much as play guitar so he went his own way. Fantastic musician and person - good reaction!
This gave me chills. I was about 12 ,13. Local Disco run by my Sports Coach from school. Wearing my older brothers leather jacket and trying to be “cool”. For some reason I expected Tom Browne’s “Funkin For Jaimaca” to start up when this finished!
If you love George Benson you would love Al Jarreau! He was amazing. I loved his theme song to the 80s tv show Moonlighting. His whole self-titled album with that song on it is a work of art.
Al went to college in the town I live in..his last concert here I got his autograph on a photo and it hangs above my desk still. My mother loved him as well.
the way that George scats in sync with his guitar, its his calling card! even if you've never heard the song, if you hear someone singing with the guitar, _its George Benson!_
George's 'Give Me The Night' album was a Quincy Jones production between Michael Jackson's two Quincy Jones-produced albums 'Off The Wall' and 'Thriller'. You might notice similar sounds in the mix.
This song, Thriller, Off The Wall, and several others by Michael Jackson and other artists were written by Rod Temperton. He was a very prolific songwriter and keyboardist and songwriter for Heatwave.
First bought it when it came out and wore the cassette out and bought it again and finally replaced with the CD. It's one of my favorites. If you're a Quincy Jones fan try "The Dude". He made it with James Ingram and Patti Austin. Really good!
It did aiight... BUT this song should've been a MONSTER hit! Benson 's vocals were perfectly in sync w/ the time. Plus, many of us LIVED for the nightlife... & all the dancing & romancing (when we were lucky) that came with it.
@@michaelrohan443 Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” which stayed at NUMBER ONE on the Billboard Hot 100 for 18 weeks would qualify as 'HUGE". Benson's joint was NUMBER FOUR(???) & for how long??? Therefore I stand by my original statement. Peace.
@@oreally8605 I can't say for sure but I think he still with us. I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't. I just meant that back in his day he was very good with the guitar.
George Benson is literally one of the greatest Jazz guitarists of all time; like Jimmy Page/EVH/Hendrix stature in the field. It’s easy to not fully grasp how unbelievably skilled he is at a technical level when you focus on the bangers, but songs like Take Five, Affirmation, Clockwise, and Oleo will knock anyone on their tail. He’s the real deal.
The 80's was one of the best decades to be alive, i was young but still i grew to be a man then. The music, the skating, the skateboards, the bmx. the boomboxes, the cars, people getting along, having a good time... So many great songs of every genre. If you wanna slow it down check out Al Jarreau - After All, a great slow groove from that era. In the 80's we slow grooved in every club every where... If a girl wanted to slow groove you just knew it was gonna be a good night...😃🤘👍
Thank you Jamel, this takes me back to my early teens, skating was BIG back then, I wore skates everywhere. This used to be a favourite at my local roller drome along with 'Never give up on a good thing', 'Turn your love around' 'Lady love me' and 'Love x love' The early 80's at their finest and all of them worth a listen.
Boogie Nights, Always and Forever, The Groove Line, Rock With You, Off the Wall, Stomp, Baby Come to Me, Thriller, Yah Mo B There, Sweet Freedom … all from a shy, quiet guy who you’d never suspect was one of the greatest songwriters of all time
Thank you so much for this video, Jamel. You just made my day. I grew up in that era, and this was and is still one of my favorite songs. I love that you had to get up and dance to it. I was dancin with ya!
YES! One of my all time favourite albums from the phenomenal legend that is George Benson. Fantastic song. Brilliant reaction Jamel. Big love and respect from London, U.K💜❤️👍🏿👏🏿
Took my Mom to see him in Boston around ‘90 or so and it was incredible. All the women were makin’ a fuss and just slick as hell he says slow and soft into the mic…”Oh Hush”. Crowd just busts up. Smoothest thing I’d ever seen at a live show.
@Sally Phillips So I'm scrolling through the comments & had to back up to take a closer look at the pupper in your profile pic. That's the prettiest little fluffster I've seen lately!!💙
This magical masterpiece is so obviously one of the best songs ever made and ever will be made...wow...totally awesome...this can be played repeatedly over and over again and never becomes anything less than great...
George Benson. The Soulmeister General. This is so damn smooooooth....we dug a hole in the dance floor at the "discotheques" when George came on... Man, why can't we get young people back dancing and socializing like we did in the '70's? Friday nights became early Saturday mornings... What a wonderful tune.
George Benson is the heir of two different musical traditions. I see him as the most obvious descendant of Charlie Christian. Dude can PLAY. He's also like Nat King Cole in the sense that he made his bones as a serious instrumentalist before breaking through as a pop vocalist.
Cincinnati 1977, I was hyped for a Chick Corea concert… then was totally blown when I realized I also was experiencing George Benson on guitar and Stanley Clarke on bass… that was one incredible night of fusion I’ll never forget!
He also made an album called, the other side of Abbey Road, where he did jazz influenced covers of Beatle tunes. You should check it just for your own enjoyment. The brother can play!
Luv GB! My kids are under age of 12 , and I play his songs all the time. They love this song and Turn Your love around. Kids now a days don’t know what good music is. They should listen to this! 👍💕
My father loved Jazz and loved teaching me about artists like George Benson. My first introduction to George was Weekend In L.A. in 1978; I was 13, and primarily into Kansas, Boston, Styx, and Foreigner, but when I heard George scat along with his guitar i was hooked! I also loved Lee Ritenour and Earl Klugh. I also love Tim Bowman, but he's hardly known because he's a born again believer who uses the talent God gave him to further His Kingdom! Great music from these 3 Jazz guitarists!
one of the best songs ever... it still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it... George and Quincy, thank you so much for this one, and for this whole album, brilliance at work.
Oh, YAAAAAS! THANK YOU for reacting to this song. I'm in my late 40s and this song was one of my all-time favorites at the roller rink back in the day. It blared out of the boom box, too, when we skated around our neighborhood. Great memories and even greater music! ☮💜😃
Fun fact: I just noticed that the woman in the video playing his love interest is the same woman that played opposite Michael Jackson in the Thriller video.
I love me some George Benson. Such a talented and classy artist. Thanks for the reaction, Mr. Jamal, you did good. Drop the Mic from T-town, Tulsa OK🎤🎸
