'Oleo' is downright scary. Great playing, Alex! That's some serious burn! And I love the natural distortion that comes from playing 2 or more notes from those guitars. And thanks for the breakdown on the licks!
Nice one man, thanks so much for your kind comment. Yeah i know what you mean about the natural distortion, cool isn't it? Good luck with the licks and catch you on the next one. ;-)
@@AlexHutchingsMusic You need to do a lesson on your picking technique if you haven't already done one ! I see a lot of sweeps incorporated into your picking style here !
".....it's not my guitar." LOL But, you where on fire with someone else's guitars!! Sorry about your axe, i hope it's fixable. Very much enjoyed this plus, I already knew the first 2 licks!! (big grin) That GB10 is such an easy and beautiful sounding guitar to play. (i do have one) I have to go back to finish the 1st episode . So, perfect health and wealth to you and yours!! Great job too.
It's not my guitar... 😂🤣😂 Glad you liked that part..👍 Cool you have a GB10 I'm. jealous. Cool you knew the first 2 licks too... Now on to the 3rd... Good luck mate. 👍
George to me is very similar to another favourite of mine; Nat ‘King’ Cole. Both became widely known for their amazing singing, yet before that were monster Jazz musicians. Nat is killer pianist influencing Oscar Peterson and lots of others. I was always drawn to George due to feel and sound. Great video; thankyou.
Hello there, thanks for checking out vids and website store.... Actually the lessons in the online store are more broadly about improving as apposed to particular artists... Sorry if this was unclear.... However the improvisation masterclasses cover many techniques and exercises that I use when improvising on a whole range topics.... Including some employed here. I do believe they are a great resource for people looking for material they to help them improve.... Either way thanks for watching and I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the series... All the best
Hey Alex, this is fantastic playing! I've been playing for 14 years and Jazz guitar is the next step for me to expand my playing. How would you recommend getting started with jazz? Are there online courses or books you recommend?
Beautiful and and entertaining. I like this Music and this Series. From me Green Light. Keep doing what youre doing. Have a Great Weekend ahead. And look forward for the next Video. Very interesting Video. I like the Story and that you explain and tell Everything . 👍
Terrific bro. Love your playing! (Duh!). I have a GB story which is fun to retell. saw him at The Jazz Boat in lower Manhattan when Beyond the Blue Horizon was the latest. There was a young looking cat sitting on the side of the stage messing quietly around with a guitar. He’d quit during the sets. At some point maybe around the third set around 1am GB introduces that guy “I’d like you to meet someone I’ve been playing with, Earl Klugh.” At the end of the gig the pal I was with and I literally chased GB to his car, (a burgundy Monte Carlo lol). While he put his axes in the trunk he was absolutely gracious with us these two young kid fans, told us about his new record that was coming out soon, called “Body Talk”. Lol Those were the days. Thankfully for all of us there’s plenty of video of him here, some going back to the early 70s ….
Wow, how lovely... That's so very cool. Thank you for sharing. What a special memory to have... Wishing you all the best and thanks for watching my humble tribute. All the very best 👍🙏🎸
Edutainment heavy on both the edu and the 'tainment. I feel pleasantly informed. Feels like time for me to buy another guitar after hearing this. (I've no attic guitar stash here). Nice tones here I don't have in the solid body collection. I remember an Artcore at the shop having great action and a low price. I'll check out these earlier GB recordings as well. And the instructional video. Can't wait for your look at the Yngwie Instructional with the purple suede coat. And maybe someday the MacAlpine video where nobody has any sleaves, but suspenders are in partial use.
Thank you mate, sorry to make you spend money on another guitar but you can never have too many... ;-) Have fun with the GB collection of tunes and see you on the next vid.... Thx for watching. 👍
Hey Alex, great video. Do you think George could play like he does now right from the beginning? Like a natural gift? Do you ever sounded "bad" when you started? I guess you could play right from the start very well.. or
Hey Dennis, thanks for watching. It's a hard question to answer, I'm sure George play the same if he wanted to he's just a natural talent. As far as I'm concerned of course I feel I have progressed a lot over the years but I suppose playing always felt quite natural to me too from a young age in my own way. Of course that's not to say that I haven't had more than my fair share of sounding bad over the years too.🤣😂🤣
He lived the life of every note he plays and thats along time! Faster fingers then many too! Melvin Sparks told me GB plays a million notes to ours! I played GB's stage guitars once..The action was the lowest possible and no neck relief then! GB is a nice cat to talk with..no b.s when one on one! I noticed all the cats who study him as you do..I hear the strings buzzing lightly against the frets acoustically. Whats your take on that vs no buzzes acoustically?
Hey mate, thanks for watching... yes I agree he's always totally immersed in his music for sure. ;-) Regarding the action... It's tough to say, the Benson guitar i used here wasn't mine but you're right it did buzz slightly, if it were mine I'd try to little adjust it so it didn't as much, but only slightly... All the best 👍
Indeed, In fact I recorded several version of that for this along with Affirmation too but didn't have enough time to squeeze it into the video... A beautiful track for sure, Thanks for watching. 👍
Bloody Hell Alex..... do you know anyone that wants to buy some guitars hahahahaahahahaha just awesomess ....loving your new series.... im sure your going to get tons of new subscribers :)
Faaantastic lesson!!! Alex i love this series and how you play!!! i have one issue with this Episode and maybe you could help : ) .... in parts when you talk over playing we cant hear you jam clear so pleeeeeeease! could you upload only jams from this video... there is some buuuurning licks!!! don't get me wrong i love the whole lesson and story!!! i love how you play jazz and need i say it would be great if you could upload concert from yours cookbook trio and more of you playing jazz or antoher jazz Guitar Gods Episode...sorry for my english! great episode!!!
Hello mate thanks so much for watching and your comments... Don't worry it is my total plan to also upload all the playing from all episodes soon..... so stay tuned for that.... All the best mate 👍
Hahah thank you mate, yes tune in next week to find out... Sorry, I would tell you but I love surprises too much. Hope you do too. Catch you next week mate. All the best
What a fantastic idea...talking about yours and our guitar gods! Thank you. What a great player you are too Alex. I have been enjoying your guitar playing for sometime now. 👏👏👏👏
Just discovered your channel Alex, totally knocked me out, that you have mastered all these styles. Great teacher too. So many really good players make their mark and stick to one certain style, which is cool , but sort of like an artist that paints with only certain colors, I think anyway. Like Guthrie Govan, not one trick pony guitarist, thanks. You could do a whole series on the George Benson stuff, I would buy it.
Hahaha thank you mate, really pleased you're enjoying the video.... Need to achieve a few more things before we have an Alex episode... But I really appreciate the compliment... Thanks for watching man. 👍😎
Bro, I'm so happy to see you so fluid after that BS injury you went through. Hearing you clean (for a change up), i don't know how you physically feel, but it looks good and sound good. Happy for ya!
Thank you very much mate, yeah man that was some scary shit last year.... I still suffer with numbness but luckily I can play through it without too much hindrance. It still bothers me in everyday life though but I'm very grateful is wasn't worse... I'd say I was quite lucky if you can say that about such a thing. 😉 Anyway I appreciate your thoughts mate, and cheers fro watching. All the best 👍
@@AlexHutchingsMusic Yes....I ask you all the time when you guys are collaborating again. It's always magic! Thanks for inspiring me to play and learn more!
Hey Dom I have at least 10 episodes planned maybe more, I'm trying to keep the players I feature as a surprise each week, so stay tuned to find out if he makes it into the list. One thing I can say is I also believe he was inspired by Mr George Benson too... I hope you'll come back to check out all the episodes. All the best and good luck with the licks. 👍
Thanks for the nice video, Thids seems to be no Ibanez GB 12 but the ky 2000, only 40 ones made? What kind of amp did you use on this video. Thanks, Peter.
Alex, amazing evolution in your channel. I have been here for long, I'm an absolute fan of your playing. This going up to million subs in a heartbeat! thanks!
Wish you would have explained how these licks work over chord changes… just saying “then we hit the G#” “.. and this kind of looks like a Dmaj7 shape” is just explaining the lick on an island, doesn’t help people integrate into their improv, only imitate.
I heard an 8 track of GB Cookbook and bought the tape. I didn't even have an 8-track player. I had to play it on my brother's deck (when he wasn't around as he was kind of possessive back then)
Alex!!! Wow hvnt seen u in ages! Yr the man..Cheers bro for the lesson and looking so funky👍🏻great playing as aways and great lesson, thanks soooo much for making me cooler
Mate i come home from gigs and watch this or your other vids.. Just epic, your personality ha legend... Oh better edit in your playing and licks are ferocious
Another awesome video Alex, I’m really digging that we have the same eclectic taste in guitar idols. I saw the Yngwie episode first and here’s George Benson with you plugging his It’s Uptown which I just love. I had an amazing double live album of George’s that I can’t remember the name of but it’s just him burning lines all night trading off with his pianist most of the album. I could listen to you impersonating George Benson for hours. Another ferocious type of player with the intensity of their lines.
Hey Philip thank you very much.... and yes very cool to share the same wide variety of styles and genres.... Glad you're enjoying the videos mate. All the best 👍
Great playing, great demo - subscribed. More Benson licks please! There’s so little accessible Benson content out there. Also, a breakdown of what’s going harmonically on the shred lick would be great thanks!
Thank you mate, I'm glad you enjoyed it.... I'll be moving on to another player next but I hope you'll still be able to gain something from this video... Perhaps I'll come back to do a part 2 sometime. All the best and thx for watching. 👍
Alex really enjoyed this ...I have been to George Benson Concerts several times , a huge fan' he is one of my favourite Jazz guitar players' and after listening to your jazz playing you are another favourite! It would be so cool for you to have a jazz session with George I know you would be inspired by him I'm sure George would equally be inspired by you with your masterful playing🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 Keep well James
Thank you so much James, it would indeed be an honour to sit and jam with him to learn from the master himself.... Cheers for watching and all the best 👍
Man Alex, this is just great, totally nailed it. Definitely subbed. Stumbled across George Benson and Quincy Jones and the folks rather late but am going to absorb a lot of it now. Thank you!
I really enjoyed watching this! Incredible display of talent and versatility. Love George Benson, I'm mainly a rock/metal guitar player but I listen to all sorts of stuff to enrich musical vocabulary. Jazz is something I've always wanted to learn how to play. Cheers mate!
@@AlexHutchingsMusic "Not my guitar" would be a great song tribute to all of us who can string those moments into something resembling a practice session. Cheers! Peter
Thank you mate, yes what a fab player, glad you're enjoying it mate.. See you on the next one.. Working on it right now in fact. Coming Friday. Cheers for now, 👍
