I work at Subway. Our bread dough starts in the freezer. Then it goes into the refridgerator. In the refridgerator we have a metal box with shelves made for holding pans of frozen dough so that the dough can thaw out before cooking. This box is called the Retarder. There are instructions taped to the door explaining how the retarder works. I laughed really hard when I got to the part where it said "if you leave the dough in there for too long the dough gets too retarded".
I also work at Subway, a couple months ago one of the other guys told me to wait till later in the day to pull bread for the next day because the manager said it was getting “too effin’ retarded.” I couldn’t stop laughing for five minutes
'Retard' means to slow a process. Therefore, a retarder is an apparatus that slows a process. You see them on engines or mechanical devices. A transmission retarder slows the vehicle down, much the same way an exhaust retarder (Jake brake) is used to slow a vehicle down. The word retard was originally used for people with Down's Syndrome or other genetic conditions that slowed and/or stifled cognitive improvement. Then the 80s happened and it became a pejorative. So, just like fat or ugly, we stopped using it because obviously if you stop using a word the condition ceases to exist.
I am literally watching this while wearing a t-shirt with a quote from George: "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". Love your reactions to Carlin.
Younger people probably won't get the reference when he says "information became directory assistance". In the pre-interwebs/pre-mobile era you either had to consult the white/yellow pages, or you could call a specific number for information to get a phone number for someone else.
George was a actual genius and a language expert bits like these are amazing both in its humor and the truth of it all. He is neve rmore missed then in today when ignorance and hate grow each day
George is the GOAT of stand-up. He'd rip these snowflakes a new a-hole. Thank goodness for Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, and a few others for not caring what people think about them.
@@karenfryberger4260 Don't leave Patrice O'Neal off the list....or Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison too....heck, Richard Pryor. What an amazing stand-up comedy culture we have and seem to be losing due to ignorance, oversensitivity and corruption. xoxo
Dave Chappelle does NOT do what George Carlin did. In an interview, Carlin explicitly said that comedy is to attack the people in power not the oppressed.
What is even worse is that people have squeezed even more humanity out of the combat condition. Modern language abbreviates everything. Now most people don't even call it post-traumatic stress disorder, just PTSD. And it has gotten so prevalent that people toss out the term to describe any feeling of discomfort. PTSD...soft language. 😢 It gets worse every day.
Carlin said several times, "Controlling language is how you control thought." And he is 100% correct. You begin the process of changing the way you speak, and you begin to change the way you think. It's been a process that has taken several generations....but it's working. Look around and it's glaring back at you what he is talking about has done. Diabolical when you think about it.
Damn! I miss George Carlin. I was born in 1985, I lived through these great times. If he was still here today then he'd be on fire with the shit going on today but he did predict alot of what is happening today in the world. George was a pioneer, a philosopher.🔥💪🏻❤️🙏🏻🇬🇧
He was a genius, a true philosopher of our time imo. My only issue with Carlin is that he was a true Anti-Semitic and prejudice towards certain groups.
Brothaman, George Carlin is a great example of a man ahead of his time. Absolute legend in comedy and just speaking his mind not giving a fizzuck. But on a side note, you should react to George Carlins "Difference between Baseball and Football"... hilarious. Keep up the dope content yall.. Much love from MA
Damn! 0:24 seconds in and he's already spitting facts! Lol! Gotta love the man, hope he's resting easy wherever/whatever/however the next stage exists! New sub.! Love you guys, your chemistry is just awesome! Thanks for sharing with us! Been binging your content all night! Lol! ❤
It was 1974, and I was a senior in high school. My neighbor brought over the first George Carlin album: FM & AM. I went to the record store and bought a copy. Then I bought Class Clown and Occupation Foole. He was one of my heroes.
Love Carlin. People should have listened to him a long time ago. As a Gen X'er and mom to a child with Down syndrome, the only way the "R" word is used in an acceptable way is NOT meant for people like my child but applied to those without disabilities who behave as if they are missing their brains. ❤💯
And to think this was in 1992 time frame...... and still is relevant.... I call it Salesman language... If I ever call someone Ugly. I start quoting the song "They call you Mr Personality (( because you're so UGLY))"
Before my grandmother spiraled, she always used to say she was 70-80 years young. This wasn't her denying her age. This was her taking pride in the fact that everyone who would guess her age (she eventually started asking everyone she struck up a conversation with to guess) thought she was in her 50s or even her 40s.
been missing you babies ^_^ .. Love your channel! .. OMG... TY for doing this. Carlin was so iuintelligent as to seem magically prophetic. I mean, we were warned ahead of time about what is happening now, we were just to busy laughing....
The most nonexistent insult in the world: "I hate ugly people". Who would be offended by that: somebody who acknowledges that s/he's ugly? Not gonna happen, is it?
While i havent heard anyone use "appearance deficits" about ugly people, i HAVE heard them say someone is not "conventionally attractive". Well, about me atleast.
9:29: There is nothing wrong with the r-word. It comes from the Latin word retardatus, which means to delay or inhibit. If people use it to make fun of people, it doesn't matter what word they use. It's the implication and tone that matters most.
@10:18 Me, describing someone, "...they look like they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every last branch on the way down." Me, "...they must have been something before electricity." Me, "...they're a two bagger. That's where you put a bag over your head if the bag over their head breaks." #thatisall
I'll tell you, I've been crippled my entire life and it's true. There are plenty of people - disabled and otherwise - who bury the truth of disability under a mountain of soft language and concessions so that they don't have to feel bad about the reality of it. Also, as an ugly person, believe me... we know exactly what we look like. Worse than being called ugly is being lied to about it.
George carlin was born in the 30s and he's an autistic, he saw everything ever mentioned on stage happen in his life, the autisic part is in his delivery im an autistic and i think exactly like George even before i saw his routines as a kid
When you brought up "r" word, it has a dictionary definition. When i failed we used it all the time when transiting time zones "retard the clocks" just means set it back one hour.
The job of a great stand up comedian is to put a mirror on society ask you to laugh at yourself. They challenge societal norms and force up to look at life from a different point of view
Man! If you offend someone you need to learn to fix yourself? For what telling the truth. If the truth hurts deal with it! It’s not my problem people cant embrace reality.
