I think it´s incredible how he manages to express panic and anxiety, not only in the video, but also in his voice. Only by hearing him sing, you get to think, that he really feels like he is drowning, that he is under more and more pressure, that time is running through his fingers and that he longs for just one moment to calm down, only one moment to be happy and without distress.
This song isn't about love. It's about losing it. He's holding on and she's moving on. The water he's drowning in are the lyrics as he tries to bargain and rationalize with the situation he's in. As the song builds and crescendos, his voice gets more and more passionate and anxious until he finally drowns and accepts the reality of it all. "Give me a minute" "give me a minute" it's more desperate and repetitive towards the end and he is trying to hold on to the last moment as long as he possibly can. Every song doesn't have to have a happy ending. It's okay to not be okay.
I think the song isn't about him at all but about feeling helpless when trying to help someone suffering from some sort of mental trauma, whilst deep down you know theres nothing you can do. At the end of the day, the change has to come from the person, they're the only one who can help themselves, but you still try because shes drowning and your drowning watching her drown. Hope is the only thing we have to hold onto, until the very last second. And that's why I think even with the obvious sadness of the song it's still a positive message of not giving up, even if you are drowning, theres still light after dark, darkness disappears with the dawn and your suffering will end ♡

I'm a waitress and at work there's always music playing in the background. While working, it's too loud inside to hear it. After my shift, I clean the tables and I can hear the music again, and I'm not lying, it's always this exact song. It sounds crazy, but after every shift (when I'm totally done) this song is on the radio (it's not a CD or a playlist I checked it several times) It gives me hope, to carry on, to keep going and that one day I'll find someone special for me. I love this song so much

Also, the restaurant I work for treats their employees really well which is very important for me. But I I have to say it's not easy, it's like constant stress but if you learn to deal with it you'll get better soon :)

Took my wife and daughter to see him in Paris. Not a duff song. Not a duff note. His diction and clarity is excellent. You hear every word to his songs.Loved it. Probably one of the best concerts that I have been to over the years. If you get the chance, go to see one of the best artists around. Great band too. Very skilful. Great brass section.

George Ezra is absolutely incredible. Such an outstanding singer-songwriter and performer. His lyrics really touch me. He is a national treasure and is so underrated. His fans love him though.
So, I wouldn’t normally share something so personal, but this song has meant so much to my husband and me, probably nothing to do with the original meaning of the song but that’s what’s beautiful about music... you can create something that resonates with others in a way you couldn’t have imagined. And I believe that’s what’s happened for us, and I wanted to share to be able to express how much this song has truly meant to him and me. This song dug into my heart to stay after a big life event. I’ve always struggled with mental health. But several years ago it got very serious. The first stanza clearly reminds me of my husband knowing things were changing and getting harder for me but he had no idea how much I was keeping from him about how bad I really was and how dangerous everything I was experiencing was becoming, until something happened and I finally told him the truth of it all. “I’ve been waiting for you to come around and tell me the truth bout everything that you’re going through, my girl you’ve got nothing to lose.” I was ashamed, I was scared, I was afraid people would think I wasn’t well enough to care for our four children... but I finally told him everything and he reassured me it would be okay and that it was time to seek bigger help. That night we made the decision for me to admit myself to the psychiatric hospital. It was something I never dreamed of happening, but here I was, and I needed more help than I was able to get, so I needed to go. It was a somber drive up to the city to the hospital. But he told me, “You’re my girl. I love you more than anyone in this world and I believe in you, I KNOW that you will come out of this, however long it takes because you are strong. I will be with you the whole way. You can do this, and I will never stop believing in you.” He was a rock, he was strong and optimistic so that part when George sings “Ive got time, Ive got love, got confidence you’ll rise above” brings me instantly back to the incredible support he was giving me, and hearing that sung aloud always makes me feel like I’m going to tear up. He had brought me into the city, we arrived late at night when the floor was getting ready to settle in for the night. We were in my assigned room. Cages on the window and city lights beyond. After all the invasive stuff that comes along with being admitted, he asked the nurse if he could say goodbye to me. He reassured me everything would be ok, do this one day at a time, for right now it’s quiet, just try to lay down and go to sleep and I’ll see you very soon. ( crowded town... pick a place to rest your head...) and the nurse came in to tell him it was time to go. He grabbed me and hugged me so hard, kissed my forehead, wiped the hair from my face that was now stuck from the tears I was crying and said, “you’ll always be my girl. I love you.” (He often at random times will grab my hand or hug me and sweetly say “You’re my girl.” Even after 15 years of marriage and we’re pushing forty, he still calls me his girl, just as he had all those years ago when we fell in love nearly 20 years ago) And the nurse came in again said it was time to go, but he kept holding on and I remember thinking “just one more minute, I don’t want him to go yet, just give us a couple more minutes”. The third time she said it he finally found the strength to let go of me. (Again, “give me a minute to hold my girl”) and I laid there alone, in the dark, and cried myself to sleep while he went home to our kids and his mom who came to help while I’d be away, and sobbed alone in a room on his knees. The chorus continues to repeat itself and it continually reminds me of his assurance of love, he wasn’t going anywhere, he believes in me, that I’m strong enough to fight through this, and I will always be his girl. And I can’t express how true it is in our lives when he says “It takes one hard second to turn it around” because that hard second was the moment I decided I could not go on anymore like this and needed help and it was the first step of a long road to gaining my health and our lives back. And MAN was that a HARD second... So when we play this song it probably holds far different meaning then what it does for other people, and what it was probably originally meant to mean but it is so specific to this time in our lives that there’s no way I can hear this song and NOT think of that time between us. And it always gives me hope. Because it takes me back to where we were, and makes me remember, even on my harder days/periods of mental health we’ve still come so far. And we did it together. ❤️ Thanks to anyone who stuck with the (long) story to make it to the end. I’m sure you’re here because the song holds some kind of personal feeling for you also. Music is so much more than simply music....

What I love the most about his music videos is that you dont see naked girls, shaking asses or whatever. I truly respect him as a singer and person so much, I love everything he produces. Shotgun is my favorite happy-song, it immediatley makes me smile everytime im listening to it! My favourite artist of today by a country mile. He's so young and so talented, writes songs with depth he means them! He's the only musician from now I'm really excited about, and I can't wait to see how he evolves through the years. I hope he takes time between each album and never stops having adventures and writing music.
This is the first time I’ve listened to this song in about 16 months. The reason being that this song actually saved my sanity in one of the hardest times in my life. I was pregnant with my little girl, I got diagnosed with life threatening placenta accreta and needed a team of 15-20 people during my surgery to help deliver her. I kept getting told that it was so dangerous and I was so terrified of dying & having a hysterectomy. I listened to this song through my whole surgery, it kept me calm, gave me hope. ‘Give me a minute to hold my girl’. Completely different meaning to what it’s meant for but it resonated with me so much during that time . I love this song and I love George so much!

I heard this song at work and as soon as I finished what I was doing I immediately opened RU-vid and searched it up! I haven’t heard of him before now but holy smokes… he is very good! 4th time listening to this in under an hour and I’m not ashamed I keep hitting that repeat button!
One interpretation of this song and video could be that even though he sings about being a pillar of support for someone and always being there for them, he himself is the one who needs someone to hold on to, as he seems to be drowning in anxiety and panic. It could also be that this seemingly one-sided relationship has brought him to this point where he feels he is drowning.

Amazing song, me and my ex partner lost our baby girl and this is the song we played at the funeral, this song breaks my heart, but is so moving and makes me feel as if I am with her for a few minutes. Thank you so much George for the song.

A very close friend of mine recently passed away and before passing she planned her whole funeral, choosing this song to be brought into the church to... this song will always hold a significant part of my heart now. Her and her young son both adore George Ezra, I’d even go as far as to say George Ezra is his favourite singer... at six years old... kids got good taste. I wish I had one more minute to hold her :(

beautiful song. i do think this song is about love. not losing love. but about losing the life of someone you love and who loved you back. I think of my one friends fiance who passed away before they could get married in the hospital. i always picture him singing this song to her in his head. super sad, but beautiful and full of this emotional urgency that just... hits home to so many in so many ways. also think of the lyrics in alot of other different ways as well. absolutely love this video and everything about it, and everything about the song.

I have immense respect for this young man. He has a remarkable talent to put his emotions into simple, yet meaningful lyrics that are both deep and catchy. I wish him all the best in his career, he's absolutely got the potential to be massive, almost like the modern generation's Elvis Presley.
This is just a beautiful song. I mean, most of his songs are really amazing. But this one just yanks my heart out. Most of us can relate, not knowing what to do, feeling like you're drowning, feeling like you can't do anything.
