I grew up with the Beatles while they were together and they're still at the top of my list and George was and remains my favorite Beatle. I guess I'm one of a few million original Beatlemaniacs and being that means I love all of those guys but you're kidding yourself if you think that George didn't have an ego. George always had a certain guarded arrogance about him and if you pay attention you can see it in this video of him in certain subtle ways. He still knows the importance of being gracious... after all he is British and he was, at least, one of four of the most famous and most rcogniozed people on the planet for more than a decade. Even Eric Clapton, one of Georges oldest and closest friends, said that George was very "contrary" which is a very big deal because you never hear Clapton say anything even remotely negative about anyone. Fame certainly did change all four of those guys but not necessarily in ways that anyone would expect or that would necessarily seem obvious. Of all four ex Beatles he had the least patience for anything he considered nonsense or foolishness in people he didn't know... especially the press and crazed fans. He certainly did have a big ego and I'm in no way putting him down for it but it's a fact.

I think what sets Harrison apart from most other musicians is the fact that he was so grounded...he wasn't flashy...he wasn't an egomaniac...he never changed...all he ever wanted was to be a musician and be successful...he achieved greatness by just being himself and not putting on any airs...we were so lucky to have him for as long as we did.

He was so unassuming and without affectations, and he had such a calm and reassuring understanding of life -- and death Now I’m totally blown away by the Traveling Wilburys and how relaxed and natural these artists seem to be. I’m not expecting a reply from two years ago but Tom was near on 40 when he collaborated on this. Already an accomplished musician with many years previous to the wilburys . George was maybe only 6 years his junior. I wouldn’t take too lightly to a 51 year old man referring to me as a schoolboy when I was nearing 40. You made Roy sound a bit of a has been. He was already buddy’s with Jeff, so already “hanging out” with the “young guys”, as you put it. Roy was smart enough to know he would place himself amongst some of the finest that day. They gravitate towards each other simply because they are/were all beautiful souls who appreciated one another’s tremendous musical abilities. No one trying to be cool here.

So incredible to hear. It's as if he is right there still and has never left us. He is such a straightforward man whom I respected and who was respected by his fellow musicians.....the ones that shared the bond of being A wilbury with no effort at all. And we get to hear them. I'm very joyful knowing that he had such dear friends . Thank you, George, for allowing us into your feelings for a few minutes.

You can tell that he’s SOOO fed up with interviewers after so many decades of fame, but he keeps plugging away because he has to promote his music. But it’s clear that he just wants to play his electric twanger and be left alone. Rest In Peace, Mr. Harrison.

Talk about the epitome of understatement!! George was such a sweet and humble man. But that's what made all of the Wilbury artists so good! Because they were so grounded, self-ware and more connected to the music than their egos, and they weren't worried about what others thought of them. They were in it for the song and for each other with the utmost respect for the talents of their fellow Wilburys. This is the sort of the thing that made the 80's such an amazing decade in music.

I love George. I can’t imagine what he went through in his life. Most people probably think it was great and fun and amazing, and I’m sure there were those moments, but it must’ve been pretty traumatic. Impossible to imagine, but you can tell by his demeanor that it had an unpleasant effect on him. You’d think he had a great life, but I bet there was more pain and struggle than most people endure. He was a great musician, a legendary musician. The work he accomplished puts him up there with Beethoven. That must be a hard pill to swallow. He was taken from us way too early. It’s our exceptional luck that Paul made him play “Raunchy” for John on top of that double-decker bus that night. How much more empty would our lives be if those three never got together?

Yes. I heard heard a tape recording of George when he arrived at the studio in LA, He asks the band if they ever heard of Gary Moore, he was absolutely blown away by Gary's guitar style. He went on to play with Gary Moore at the Barbican In London. It should be on you tube.

The interview was kind of awkward but give the interviewer credit for steering clear of the Beatles, which of course was always a tempation with George -- undoubtedly many interviews ran aground when the interviewer veered back to the Beatles and George clammed up. I am sure the interviewer was told before the interview to stick to the Wilburys so his questions did get kind of stilted and monotonous.

I think the Traveling Wilburys was George's finest hour. He had always been in the background in the Beatles, and always limited by John and Paul. The Wilbury's was George's band, and he managed the band like a dear friend. So humble and eloquent. Wise and careful with his words. In the end he was not only my favorite Beatle but also my favorite artist. God rest his humble soul.
