Fun fact, from George Harrison's memoir: Eric and George were working on the song, and Eric was singing the line "I told you not to drive around in the dark," and then Ringo came in, absolutely plastered, and quipped "I told you 'bout the swans that live in the park," and Clapton liked the line and put it in!

Daniel, Free advice from a non-attorney, but the same advice given by Frank Zappa to another musician: If you are writing your own material (songs) get yourself a lawyer and create your own publishing company so YOU own your songs, not some producer/engineer or whatever. They you won't be taken advantage of as have so many who came before you. Cheers! (and happy b'day!😂)

This. A friend of mine, years ago, went to a series of music industry seminars and this was the most important piece of advice he came back with. It is surprising how many songs were written by someone who ended up not owning the rights them. In some cases people were extorted out of songs in return for a "break" into the industry. Own your songs.

Hi Daniel, I really have enjoyed your many videos. What I really like about your reactions compared to the many hundreds of other people doing reaction videos, is that you go deep into the way the music touched you. Many other video reactions only show the person's facial expressions while they listen and they don't dig into the meaning of the lyrics or the song facts like you do. I also like that sometimes you will review a song that has not had a lot of requests. That is why I am writing today. In 1974 during my junior year of high school, Elton John released his "Caribou" album that had many upbeat top hits on it. There was one song that never got any radio play time (which in 1974 was the only way you really got to hear new music). The one song I am referring to is called "Ticking". It is a song about mental illness and the horrible toll it can have on an individual. In 1974 almost every person you would see in movies or TV shows who had mental illness were off the wall like "Jack Nicholson" in the Shining. I never knew that a "normal" person could have mental illness. I listened to this song over and over again as it tells the story of a "normal" young man who was consumed from his illness. I found this to be one of the most powerful songs I ever heard Elton John sing. Now 47 years later I was listening to reaction videos and I found one reaction video to "Ticking". It really made me remember that song and sadly how I see more people today with the same type of mental illness that Elton John sang about in 1974. I thought that I could make this music suggestion to you and as such you might be the second reaction video to "Ticking". At the end of the reaction video one of the reaction members state that this was the most powerful song that they think that Elton John ever did. I was blown away as that was my very same reaction 47 years ago. There are no good videos of Elton John performing this song. The videos that are on youtube all look like they were done on home movie 8 mm film cameras, however someone put together a good audio and lyrics video. The link is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bKEqmXoZ3YQ.html I know that you found songs like "Ode to Billy Joe", "Taxi", and "Cats in the Cradle" to be powerful. I believe you will put "Ticking" in that same group. Take care and thank you for taking time to read this long comment. Best wishes and thank you for all of the videos that you post!

Eric Clapton fell in love with George Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd and wrote a songabout it called "Layla". Pattie did leave George eventually, and married Clapton, but the two men remained friends. "Layla" is a must. One of the biggest rock ballads of the seventies. Eric Clapton recorded it under the name Derek and the Dominos. Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers plays slide guitar.

My favourite Cream song! And I am old enough to just remember it first coming out. Thanks! Ginger Baker was regarded very much as THE greatest drummer ever, back in the 1970s - check out "Toad" - the drum solo against which all others were judged. Ringo allegedly provided the line about the Swans, as I recall? And yes, there is certainly a slightly melancholy feel to it. And again, yes - it has always been way too short! Good luck with your concert, buddy!

All 3 of the members of Cream were at the TOP of their classes: Ginger Baker was such a talented drummer that he could carry a different beat with each hand, and two more with his feet. Jack Bruce played both standup bass and fretless electric Bass, plus sang for Cream in songs like Sunshine of Your Love. Eric Clapton was proclaimed "God" in Britain in the late 1960s. Works for me!

I don't know how many people remember this movie, but my favorite horror movie is "The Changeling" starring George C. Scott, a music professor who moves into a large home after the death of his wife and daughter. He soon learns the house is haunted, then seeks to discover what the haunting is all about. He ends up learning about a murdered child of a wealthy businessman who sought to move up the social ladder.

Yes Baker was always the drummer for Cream. The band got the name because they were considered the "cream" of British musicians, Baker on drums, Bruce on bass, and Clapton on guitar. Bruce and Clapton did most of the vocals, but Baker had a few vocal moments on "Pressed Rat and Warthog" and "Blue Condition". As far as I remember, other than Harrison on this song, the only other musician to appear on any of the Cream recordings was their producer (and bassist, singer, producer for Mountain) was Felix Pappalardi who added in the "weird" touches with viola, bells, organ, trumpet, and tonette.

People are fierce in their choices of "best rock drummer." Bonham of Led Zep gets backing, Moon of the Who, many others. But Ginger Baker is in a league of his own. BTW, there was no guitar duel for the hand of Patti Boyd. If you do more Cream, you've done the smash hits, so please consider "NSU," "Those Were the Days" (amazing drumming and tubular bells!), "Dance the Night Away" and "I'm So Glad." And another shameless plug to play "My Old Man" by Steve Goodman for your dad.

I enjoyed your response to this Cream number. I"m 70 yo and they, along with so many of the groups of the 60s & 70s have been a big influence in my life. I love it when younger people can appreciate the older music. After all, I grew up listening to Classical music and Pop music that my parents liked, so why shouldn't all generations have an open mind to enjoy the "older" stuff? BTW- Are you in Acworth? I'm going to visit my Mom's gravesite at the Liberty Cemetery later this month. Just an interesting coincidence. (I see now that this was posted 2 years ago, so never mind about all that).

"Great song, but too short" has been said many times about this song, and rightfully so. Yes, Ginger was a great drummer, but spent most of his career in Jazz. The guitar duel for Patti is pure fiction, she would've told them both to get lost. George was spending less and less time with her while on his spiritual journey, and she was feeling isolated. Then Eric wrote Layla to her and they slowly grew closer. The split with George and relationship and marriage to Eric was all amicable, and George began to refer to them as "husbands in law". Oh and Patti has had more songs written to and about her than almost any other. At LEAST 3 by George and 4 by Eric.

The lyrics aren't random nonsense. The song is about a guy who, years after the fact, runs into his formally innocent and naïve ex who split on him and their son. She apparently has some problems (drugs) and he is telling her to get her shit together before it's too late because he still loves her (and feels a bit bit guilty for her situation). Read the lyrics again with this context in mind.
