George wrote such uplifting music!! How can you not feel something spiritual listening to this (no matter what your beliefs might be). He didn't care who/what you followed, just that you aspired to be a good person and loved your fellow humans, and the world as a whole. RIP George.
George created a hypnotic song that repeated over and over like a Buddhist chant and what do you know, it appealed to the masses and became a monster hit. George was amazing. He was always my favorite Beatle.
Well, yes and no. We will never know what John might have done. We had a taster on 9 October 1980, his 40th birthday. I bought it and was on cloud 9. He was back; I was ecstatic. Exactly 2 months later (4 days after my birthday) he was murdered. So up to a point yes, but we will never truly know. Breaks my heart. Oh and never, ever mention the murdering bastard's name. That's what he wanted, to have his name linked to John's forever. He's the assassin, the murdering bastard or the killer. Ok, so have a great weekend, wherever you are. x love, peace and music from East Coast of England.
Love George Harrison but John Lennon Double Fantasy is pretty untouchable in the post-Beatles catalogs. Paul McCartney and Wings had quite a nice career. Linda was a big boost to Paul. But John Lennon's Imagine is the most important song post-Beatles.
@@Greg-io1ip all things must pass is my favorite post Beatles record. I also love George Harrison self titled, living in the material world, brainwashed, etc.. Then you get into the Wilburys records. Not knocking John. Imagine is definitely a classic song. Working class hero, instant karma, and also etc... Still for me team George
Okay you got me. I’m subscribing. I think what you’re referring to was a string instrument from India called a sitar which George learned to play and also that was a Hindu chant. “Harrison’s lyrical attempt to bridge a divide between Christianity and Hinduism was one meaning of the song.” George just wanted everyone to get along and live in peace☮️
@@kathybwell Yup I’ve been watching their reactions, giving them thumbs up and using the comment section for awhile. But I’ve been holding back to subscribe… until now
Yes, absolutely. George wrote these songs. He grew as a songwriter but more importantly, as a person. Beautiful stuff. He was an amazingly talented guy. And people who knew him (family, friends, colleagues, etc,) loved him as a kind, generous and spiritual person. The real deal!
An amazing gal broke up with me when this song broke out. We were only teens but she was 2 years older than me. A big deal when you're 14....15. She sent me a wonderful letter & of course- you guessed it, her photograph. Her name was Katherine......I called her Katie. Such a wonderful gesture- she said she would never let anyone else call her 'Katie' for the rest of her life. What a doll she was. I hope the years have been kind to her. And to you !
This was on the radio a lot in my high school years. Then it was just a pop song that I liked. Now I hear it more as a cry to God, Krishna, or otherwise. I hear it as a religious release. Thanks for doing this.
George Harrison also formed a group ,The Traveling Wilburys in 1988, 5 of the biggest singer/ songwriters George Harrison, Jeff Lynne of ELO, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, & Bob Dylan , they recorded 2 albums. "Handle with care" RIP George Harrison, Roy & Tom Petty. LEGENDS , GREATNESS🤟
All the Beatles had stand out solo careers; George was shing star in the rock world. There are many good choices for him - you can't go wrong. Love this song, great choice as always.
"Is that a slide"? We see you listening and getting it. You two gentleman have quickly become my favorite music reactors. Beautiful watching you guys discover the music of my youth. Magical times.
This was, by far, the best triple album ever released. George had so much great music saved up from not being able to get it all out with the Beatles that only a few months after the break up, he had three albums of great material, and put it all out at once.
George had volumes of songs that he had written when he was in the Beatles. George was an amazing player and loved playing slide guitar. He was heavily involved in Indian culture and music. Hari Krishna!
George became a devout believer in Hare Krishna. He wrote and recorded this and many other songs proclaiming his faith and his belief in seeking a better life here on Earth. Check out Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth). It compliments this song quite nicely. :u)
George Harrison's songs reflect so much compassion for humanity. I just love this man and artist. Also check out "Bangladesh", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Isn't it a Pity". Thanks so much guys for posting this song!🍂
the uniqueness of this song is that he took Hindu/Krishna spiritual chant and set it to a standard Gospel chord progression. Even though the concepts were foreign to a western audience, the song became number 1. Pretty amazing. Yes, George wrote almost all his own material. And he had 1 or 2 songs on almost every Beatles album - and many absolutely great ones. All Things Must Pass is an incredibly deep album. You should check out as much of this album as you can.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't want to record Harrison's music except when they needed more songs to finish the album. That's how the love song - Something (In The Way She Moves) was recorded written by Harrison, released by The Beatles and became a massive hit, still considered today as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Harrison by many people is considered their favorite musician from the Beatles.
Actually, the Beatles song is just called "Something". George was inspired by the earlier James Taylor song titled "Something (In The Way She Moves)", who was on Apple Records at the time.
There wasn't enough room on an album for John and Paul, never mind George towards the end of the Beatles. George was great, but way behind John and Paul for sheer volume of great songs. He matched them twice on Abbey Road and that's about it. Same in their solo careers, take all the greatest 15 songs from each after the break up, you'll see what I mean.
@Kieop NOT so much with the Beatles. They were so successful they ran the show by 1965-66.They got what they wanted when they wanted it.Pretty powerful position to be in.
They do. But as usual, they pick and choose what to sing. It’s a shame because it’s such a beautiful song and was written as an inclusive way to praise
Produced by the BEATLES producer. George was allowed a song or two per album by the BEATLES - love his WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS on the BEATLES WHITE ALBUM.
He had so many great songs stashed from his Beatle years, the producer Phil Spector was amazed when he showed him the songs. They decided to do the All Things Must Pass album to use some of them. George brought in Ringo, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and other musician friends to make the album. George was the spiritual one in the band, Paul was the love song pop writer, John the deep thinking politician, and Ringo the happy go lucky one.
Said it before. George played some with Delaney and Bonnie near the end of the Beatles. So did Eric Clapton, Dave Mason and eventually Duane Allman. The musicians in Delaney and Bonnie were also Derek's Dominos and played on this album. Bobby Whitlock on keys, Jim Gordon on Drums, Carl Radle on Bass, Bobby Keys on Sax and Jim Price on Trumpet. Eric Clapton and Dave Mason also played on this great triple album.
You also had a lot of Joe cockers musicians for mad dogs and Englishmen come out of Delaney and Bonnie. Such a great incubator for talent. They made everyone that played with them better musicians.
i was just a little girl, riding in the back seat of the family station wagon mon at the wheel, when I first heard this song...I remember it so well, where we were, etc...i thought it was so beautiful.
awainting on you all, the art of dying, id have you anytime, wah wah, and my personal favorite from the all things must pass album is run of the mill absolute BANGER
He wrote most if not all of these songs when he was still on the Beatles. A couple songs were written by other people. He wrote several great Beatle songs too.
Haven't heard this in a good minute, I always forget what a cool song it is, especially the guitar work. Sweet choice for a Friday morning (pun intended) - peace and love ☮
For a real beautiful rendition of this song take a listen at the concert tribute to George Harrison. Billy Preston plays keys and does the lead vocals on this while the other great musicians on stage pick up the background vocals. Talk about taking you to church. As you may know, Billy Preston played keyboards on a lot of their songs.
George wrote his own music and lyrics. He also wrote some of the best of the Beatles. See "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," among many others. You should check out the entire "Concert for Bangladesh."
I first heard this @ 4 yrs old, the guitar strum that got me ! Problem with British radio music like this become mainstay as I was growing up I’m 5+ it still sounds like the first time hearing it and where I was.
George usually got to contribute one or two songs per Beatles album, and they were all great. Some of the songs on All Things Must Pass were ones he had written as a Beatle, but they had not made it to a Beatles album. (EDIT: Think For Yourself; If I Needed Someone; Taxman; I Want To Tell You; Within You, Without You; Blue Jay Way; The Inner Light; Only A Northern Song; Old Brown Shoe; While My Guitar Gently Weeps; Piggies; Long, Long, Long; I Me Mine; For You Blue; Something; Here Comes The Sun...Beatles songs written and sung by George...probably some more.)
The album that is from (All Things Must Pass) is to this very day my favorite post Beatles release. Including anything by McCartney. And Paul has put out some great post Beatles albums.
Airplay Beats you are missing out on that Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter Tobacco Road Live Video it's every thing you both like Jazz Funk Rock Scatting yes Scatting you will both Love these Brother and Johnny Winter is one of the greatest Blues Guitar players ever thanks
George's All Things Must Pass is arguably the best of the all the Beatles solo albums. Ringo plays great drums on this song. George's slide guitar playing is instantly recognizable. Such a signature sound. He came up with this song after jamming with Billy Preston during a 1969 tour with Delaney and Bonnie when they were talking about great gospel music. George and Billy were very spiritual. Clapton played with them on that tour also.
He wound up paying the writers of "She's So Fine" for copyright infringement. He never learned to read music - he had transcribers - so he was limited to what was in his head
The background vocals at the end are part of a Vedic chant. He got really into spirituality after his visit to India and began incorporating transcendental meditation and Vedic chants and mantras into his everyday life and music. Eventually going on to co-produce the album "Chants of India" with Ravi Shankar.
The "George songs" were always a highlight when I was young going through my mother's old Beatles records - "Something," "Here Comes the Son," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" are just a few examples. And any old clips of them live, his harmonizing is integral to the whole vibe. And when they started despite being barely 15, he was the most musically talented technically, as far as a proper guitar player. It is just part of being a Beatles fan to always root for George! In addition to the songs he did closer to the break-up, he came with some great 80's tunes like "I Got My Mind Set on You" and "When we Were Fab" then was essentially in the lead spot for the super group the Travelling Willberrys (i.e. "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," etc)and they had a great album with a few unforgettable tunes. His post-humous 3 part bio done on Showtime like 10+ years ago is a MUST WATCH, especially as it seems you are both really digging his music. Love to see ya'll giving love to George!
George Harrison does some great vocals. He also wrote "Wile My Guitar Gently Weeps" though Eric Classic played a solo in it. You may want to check out some Traveling Wilbury's videos. It's a group made up of George Harrison and some primo artists. They got together just to have fun making music.
The Beatles were influenced and partook in Indian spirituality. George was singing Hare (ha-ray) which means praise, and he gave praise to Hindu gods, gurus and beliefs. Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, Vishnu etc.
Rubbish! John NEVER appeared on any George solo release, the backing vocals are done by George and Bobby Whitlock, while the drummer is Andy White (Ringo plays tambourine on the track).
Not true AT ALL. John appears NOWHERE on this album or any other George album. Unfortunately, there are at least 17 people who upvoted you who now believe this.
@@thomascerulli8013 Line-up according to The Beatles Bible, the foremost website on them as a group and solo: George Harrison: vocals, backing vocals, electric slide guitar, acoustic guitar Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Pete Ham, Tom Evans, Joey Molland: acoustic rhythm guitar Billy Preston: piano Klaus Voormann: bass guitar Gary Wright: electric piano Ringo Starr: tambourine Andy White: drums Mike Gibbins: tambourine Bobby Whitlock: vocals Uncredited: harmonium The Wikipedia article says of the vocals, not entirely accurately: "The chorus vocals were all sung by Harrison and credited to "the George O'Hara-Smith Singers"." So what reliable source do you have that has Lennon contributing vocals?
@@markamos1911 Dude we can agree it’s a great song. If you can’t hear Lennons voice clearly in the backing harmonies. I’m sorry, I know what I hear. I’m 61 I’ve been listening to this song for a long time. And when I made my comment. That was just based on my ear. When you responded I googled it just for the hell of it. I don’t know how you can’t hear John’s voice. But if the Beatles Bible says so. As a guy that lived it. It was a big F U too Paul. As their were still bad feelings after the split. Peace Brother just chill and enjoy the music. I wish you well 🙏
so glad your are reacting to some of George Harrison's music!!!! It is definitely one of my all time favorite spiritual songs, & in this list is also, Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, and Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon 🙏❤🙏💛🙏 🙏❤🙏💛🙏 The generation back in the 70's (referred to as the Hippie generation) were based on love, peace, & spirituality, & if you stay on this path, you will hear a lot of songs that refer to many forms of spirituality!!!
Happy Birthday, Baby George. 25/02/1943 The quiet, dark and mysterious Beatle. Or was he? At one of The Beatles' first recording sessions with George Martin, they were asked by George Martin " Is there anything you don't like?" and quick as a flash George Harrison said "Well for one thing I don't like your tie!"
You are RIGHT!!! All the members of The Beautiful were influenced by Black music and George on this song did a Folk version of Gospel music with this song with a twist of his own religious believe which was Hinduism which the Lord of Life is Vishnu.
As most of you know Billy Preston was called "the 5th Beatle" if you haven't seen the dedication to George Harrison look for Billy doing "My Sweet Lord" with Eric Clapton, George's son Dhani, Jeff Lynne to name a few...Billy Kills it with an over the top joyous performance both vocally & on the keyboards! Made George smile from up above I'm sure. Love your reactions guy's, you really listen to every note.
Georges slide playing was like no other. He sounded more Eastern in his slide than Blues or Country. Like a good Beatle....there he goes creating something completely unique! Amazing band and amazing watching them keep growing and growing while everyone else followed behind in not only music and art but culture itself. Lucky they were all basically decent people because the world would have followed them off a cliff.😉😎
I love George's vocal on this song. So much yearning and freedom of his soul, going up to Heaven. He was born to write and sing this song. This is a gift from George to humanity!
For “subconscious plagiarism.” What a joke. Regardless, the whole tone of My Sweet Lord is light years away from He’s So Fine. He was attempting to write a song along the lines of “Oh Happy Day.”
Harrison began writing “My Sweet Lord” in December 1969, when he, along with Billy Preston and Eric Clapton were in Copenhagen, Denmark playing with Delaney & Bonnie’s band. It was in the middle of a productive and spiritual period that saw George producing Preston’s “That’s the Way God Planned It” and the “Hare Krishna” mantra of London’s Radha Krishna Temple, as well as writing songs with a spiritual theme for his own planned solo record.
Yes, this is George's writing. He usually got one or two songs onto a Beatles record, but in the later Beatle years he got a few more as his writing improved substantially. Here he chants Hare Krishna and Hare Hare and other Hindu phrases. George was highly spiritual and was a uniter of people in faith and had no difficulty bridging any such gaps. The production on this song and the album All Things Must Pass was by the late Phil Spector, of "Wall of Sound" notoriety, producer of so much 1960's pop.
At first i heard this song on the radio station I bought the single vinyl. And when I saw the film in the cinema I was really blown away. After that the LP "Concert for Bangla Desh" came out and I bought it too. At this time it was a journey. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)
George Harrison was a devote of Eastern Spirituality and honored Jesus, Krishna and others. In this song, they sing the Guru Mantra, which pays homage to all of one's spiritual teachers.
