This music video is only a few years old while the song itself is from 1970. The Harrison estate accepted admissions for an official music video to be submitted by fans. This submission won. Just to clear up any confusion on why the video is modern.
I saw George Harrison in concert around 1974 at the Chicago stadium & he played this. It was truly great. He was a great musician and an even greater human being. RIP George Harrison 😢 😇❤
My favorite Beatle. Though he may have been allowed one or two tunes per Beatle album, many were very significant. You have already reviewed Guitar Weeps. He also wrote what is considered the first “World Music” category tune “Within You Without You” put on a pop album, Sgt. Pepper. He also wrote the beloved Here Comes The Sun, and what many view as the greatest ever love song, Something. He has more in the Beatles library, but those are a good start.
Ooh, you should react to the tribute to George: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, with Tom Petty, Geoff Lynn from ELO, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison (his son), and PRINCE 🔥🔥🔥
George Harrison is my favorite Beatle period. I personally love his writing style and I think he has the best sound out of the Beatles besides Paul because I think Paul had the best voice. But George's style is my favorite.
To me, "It Don't Come Easy" and Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey" are just about the 2 most Beatles sounding post Beatles songs there are.
Yeah, George was great! His talent, his deadpan humor, always being wise beyond his years. But I think what mattered to him most was his spirituality and his soul. There will never be another artist like him.
The album this is from, “All Things Must Pass,” is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. I listen to it a LOT. I hope you’ll react to the title track soon! George Harrison is so incredibly talented! I highly recommend the documentary Living in the Material World too.
George wrote roughly 20 songs of the Beatles songs including "Something" considered among The Beatles best. A few other Harrison solo songs I cherish are "Run of the Mill' and "Beautiful Girl". He was a very, very good human.
Something surely is among one of the Beatles Best. Although, it is not even my favorite song off of Abbey Road. That credit would go to Here Comes The Sun, also by George, of course
Without question GEORGE HARRISON'S "WHAT IS LIFE?" WAS MY FAVORITE X/BEATTLE SONG WHEN IT CAME OUT 1970 Eighth Grade... Maybe because it sounded like the Beatles. Takes me back to an innocent time in my life...Thanks Jayvee.. ✌
Thank you brother. I just really thought you would digggit! You made my day with the "shout out" ! I'm so glad you enjoyed this song. The mix does seem to be a little off on this version. Some of the guitar parts you can barely hear. You would like it even better!
"Got My Mind Set on You" also post Beatle era by George Harrison. "Something" "Here Comes the Sun" and "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" were Beatles songs written by George Harrison.
This video was the winner of a contest sponsored by Harrison’s widow Olivia and son Dhani and features dancers Emma Rubinowitz and Esteban Hernandez. from the San Francisco ballet.
redletter2008 Oh! You're so right! I listened to it the other day. Yes, J. Please react to Ringo Starr's song, Photograph. It would make my day - mostly because it's been running around my head since the loss of a great friend of mine (very) recently.
@@zanethind Back in the 1990's during the Anthology album/television mini-series period, three demos of John's music was found in Yoko's attic. Two were released as singles for Anthology, but the third which was marked "For Paul" was touched up by Paul and Jeff Lynne and released years later (though unofficially) on RU-vid. It's a beautiful tune about Lennon and McCartney's friendship called "Now and Then". So I think it's Paul's way of saying 'I Love You, John'...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tPE795oaw6Y.html
Produced by Phil Spector, so it has the classic "wall of sound". Written while the Beatles were still together, which is why it has that "classic Beatles sound". Always been one of my favourites. For Ringo Starr songs, try Photograph, You're Sixteen, It Don't Come Easy, or Goodnight Vienna.
samsbro1952 While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I Want To Tell You, Blue Jay Way, For You Blue, Savoy Truffle, Within You Without You, The Inner Light, Piggies, Think For Yourself, It’s All Too Much, Old Brown Shoe, Long Long Long, If I Needed Someone.
Jayvee I always wondered if he wrote more of their songs or had more input than I thought. I have heard this on the radio many times but never seen this video. It's a great song by George and one of my favourites, I knew that the moment it started lol. You are so right sweetheart its great and you listen to some more by George and you won't be disappointed. A wonderful reaction Jayvee and yes do listen to some Ringo, they were all very talented. God bless you, love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
@@diarmuidwall9605 thank you, I know they wrote a very large amount but not how many. I'm never too old to learn something and grateful when I do. I know that I was 10 in 1963 when they started hitting the music scene and Mum had a lot of their records but her huge collection was sold in the 80s when Dad fell ill and couldn't work for a while. 8 children need a lot of food lol so the money came in very handy. Good luck Mary-Ellen UK
@@redletter2008 it's a crying shame that John and George are no longer with us, but their memories and the music live on for generations to enjoy. Its gone midnight here, so goodnight and God bless you Mary-Ellen UK
@@redletter2008 I never got to sleep but it happens to me quite often. I have arthritis and even with my meds it can keep me awake. I shall have a few naps during the day hopefully but its the moisture in the air and the rain that aggravates it. I love watching certain channels on RU-vid and I find that so many people are genuinely kind and caring people who comment and that to me is wonderful as who needs to be unpleasant. Thank you for taking the time to chat with me and telling me facts about the Desert Rose, I hope and pray the fires are put out very soon. Take care and stay safe please God bless you Mary-Ellen
I get teary eyed listening to this song. With all the hate and divisiveness in America, this is a feel good song about love and positivity. Something we all need.
When I first saw this video about a year ago I hated it. But I watched again because I was intrigued by something undefined and liked it a little more, and then again liking it even more. I realized the girl is going through various phases of young life.. Toddler (losing her balance), playful childhood (swing set), adolescence (in the leaves), realization of mortality (through the graveyard), leaving home (in the forest) and then 1st romance (which they dance some ups & downs of). I've went back and watched it many times since then and I'm glad Jayvee teed this video up to review the song. I agree watching any "story" video can distract from the music especially if you already had a story in your head, but I think two young ballet students did a great job of interpreting George's music. I'm glad they won the contest, (to be the official music video), and I assume they even dressed the way they did so as to not outdate the song, (from 1970).
George was my fav. Beatle he wrote lots of beatle songs including..something...here comes the sun...just to dance with you...as my guitar gentley weeps.
Fun fact: Playing on this track is Eric Clapton on Guitar, Carl Radle on Bass, Jim Gordon on Drums, Bobby Whitlock on Organ... Otherwise known as ... Derek and The Dominos
The production of this song is incredible. Guitars, bass, drums, tambourine, horns, strings all layered together in an incredibly beautiful and uplifting song. Makes me feel better every time I hear it.
George wrote some of the most beautiful beatles songs, like something, here comes the sun and while my guitar gently weeps. His album all things must pass is wonderful as well
I was 12 years old when the Beatles came to America and George was my favorite. However, it wasn’t until they split up and went on their own that it became very clear that he had every bit as much talent as Paul and John. I don’t understand how he allowed them to so over shadow him.
J M I think that his songwriting improved as a result of his association with the other two but, don’t forget, he was the youngest and didn’t really start to bloom as a songwriter until well into their development. They should have given him more opportunities though. I do agree with that.
If you want to see and hear an abundant of talent on one stage. Watch the Concert for George at the Royal Albert Hall. It is absolutely the best concert that I would ever want to see. All his friends paid tribute to George by singing his beautiful music. Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Eric Clapton to mention a few.
With John, Paul, and George, no wonder why the Beatles' vocals and harmonies were so incredible! With the Beatles, some more songs of George's to react to include: "Something", "Here Comes the Sun", and "Taxman." After the Beatles: "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)." Also check out "It Don't Come Easy" and "Photograph" - sung by Ringo Starr.
Its George and that beautiful guitar tone loved this song way back then loved paul and ringos hits to and john Lennon what ever gets you through the night
Old school vibe, amazing ❤️ The Beatles songs warm the heart, it's like I miss the 60s, even if I haven't lived them. I know that this song isn't exactly by The Beatles, but...he is still 1/4 of them 💕😝
Very cool. Yep George Harrison was a member of the Beatles. We sadly lost him in 2001 to (I believe) cancer. Cited as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I suggest I Got My Mind Set On You. The video is a lot of fun.
I personally think this song is one of the greatest ever written , makes you rethink what you working and living for . And if it’s not love , than it’s empty . Staggering lyrics, a great harmony that can only be delivered by a beatle
George wrote a lot of songs while he still was in the Beatles that came out on All Things Must Pass (an all time classic album) and when you remember that all he knew was Beatles and that is how and where he learned song writing. So since he was 1/4 of the Beatles what do you expect? He wrote Something and Here Comes the Sun! I mean he was George Freaking Harrison. The songs he sang early on were covers and J&P compositions. He finally got it and started contributing. He evolved.
@@MsAppassionata First album? Their first album was Please Please Me. This was on With The Beatles. Their 2nd album. On Please Please Me he did the cover of Chains and Do You Want To Know A Secret. I believe he wrote Don't Bother Me while he was not feeling well. So you are close. From mandy-morello.com/george-harrison-songwriting-career/ Don’t Bother Me’ was George’s first song to appear on a Beatles album. After watching how from Lennon and McCartney worked, he penned the song whilst ill in bed. The upbeat rock n roll song is considered his very first composition and a fairly decent starting point for the 20-year-old.
@@MsAppassionata I live in USA as well. No problem. Also, you know, up until Sgt Peppers the USA did not have the same songs on the albums. So With the Beatles is not the same as Meet The Beatles. Take care!
All Things Must Pass was released right on the heels of the Beatles' breakup, which is why it sounds Beatley. "Wah-Wah" is another great one from that album.
The whole album "All Things Must Pass" is wonderful! George was the first to put out a solo album after the breakup of the Beatles. You can just feel his sense of relief at being able to get his songs out!
Hi from the UK, he was awesome loved all his music with or without the Beatles, he was also great as one of the travelling Wilbuys, a legend in his time ,sadly missed 😥😥😊🤗🤩
In leaving a message I left out a good suggestion for you to listen to. George played in a group called the “Travelling Wilburys”. ( long after the Beatles split). The group had George, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, (all now dead) and Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne. FABULOUS
I'm glad to see you react to George Harrison again. I still listen to a lot of his music on earbuds while I am working. I still have that album here and in excellent condition. Huge thumb up for reacting to George. RIP
That's one of the reasons why the Beatles are the greatest rock and roll band of all time. Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison were all three great musicians and songwriters in their own right. And Ringo was no slouch on the drums, either!
This song was written by Billy Preston (Beatles keyboards) and he gave it to Harrison. Years after George passed, his estate held a competion for video submissions for the song...this was the winner.
Beautiful song. Great slide guitar riffing at the ending verses. Beautiful singing. George Harrison: one of the greats. And what a lovely video--filmed in San Francisco's Presidio, with the quirky, mixed young couple on the cusp of the world: JOY.
It sounds like a Beatles song because he was a Beatle! A mixture of Joh and Paul? Well, he grew up watching them write songs and then decided he would write songs too! George was brilliant! Checkout Ringo Starr's "Photograph", "It Don't Come Easy", "Oh My My", "Goodnight Vienna", "Snookeroo", "No, No Song", "Only You", "You're Sixteen" and "Back Off Boogaloo".
He had the biggest platform to shine that they all created together and had from his late 20's on to show us what he could do. It's not like those great tunes evaporated. They just went on his solo albums. I think he got the perfect amount of recognition he deserved
My second favorite song by him. "Something" is my all-time favorite song. He wrote some the best Beatles songs, and quite a few. "Here Comes The Sun" is another Georhe classic. There are a bunch more.
I refer to George as the 'soul' of the Beatles. George Harrison's album All Things Must Pass had a lot of great stuff - check out "Isn't It A Pity", "Awaiting On You All" and "All Things Must Pass". Then keep going with "Blow Away" and "When We Was Fab". For starters.
You did the right thing to run it all the way back. It would sound a bit like The Beatles. I love George Harrison's music so much. Thank you for reacting to this. It's lifted me so much!
