it's good to see AMD taking the software stack more serious. only time will tell if they manage to make their stack good enough to win market share from NVidia. Back when I worked at Neopoint in San Diego, I heard stories about Qualcomm from coworkers that used to work there. Even around 1998-2000 Qualcomm was known to be arrogant. Sounds like it's only gotten worse over the years.
Having dealt with Qualcomm as well, getting any support was exactly like George says, it's pulling teeth. Documentation was poor, and out of date, and we were 'one of those megacorps' who is a huge customer, they still moved like molasses and acted like their tech is so hot shit (it's not, its 5-10 years out of date) that everything was tied up in NDAs and legal red tape.
Always a pleasure to watch his rants, because it's rare to get this honesty publicly in this industry. Can't wait for that epic 2025 rant on Rockchip by Goerge "Never work with Nvidia they burn bridges with everyone, use qualcomm instead, they are awesome" Hotz.
epic rant, describes the current SoC vendor situation - especially in automotive - quite well.. it's a nightmare except for AMD trying to get better at least
I worked at Amazon and they used qualcomm chips in many of their consumer devices and debugging bugs with their engineers was generally a terrible experience.

my comma3 stopped working shortly after a year and new logic board is nearly the same price as a new unit. Sad to no longer be part of the comma cool kids club and not sure I would buy another unit with that kind of reliability.

@@geohotarchive interesting thank you for sharing that. They should at least offer an at cost upgrade for those with hardware failures. Pretty frustrating tbh. I use to praise them to friends but after being told ‘tough’ after my expensive hardware died and they linked me to a logic board plus install for $1300. I even have very capable hardware electrical engineering friends who took a look at fixing and they said yeah nobody is fixing that for you it’s not designed to be repaired. Bottom line is risky purchase. 😢
he's preaching his ideas and it's ok but knowing how much of an ok leader he is and the fact that he got recruited by twitter to hack into it and make things work when he was supposed to be the hacking expert makes me angry because i know i can be better if i put more effort
