I was born in 93 so I was only lucky enough to witness George in his older years. Lucky enough to be at his second to last show. Daddy loved George more than anything and I grew up in a home listening to him almost daily. At the time I didn’t realize how special George really was and is. Lost daddy in 2007 every time I hear George it always takes me back to much simpler times in life. I wish everyone could’ve had a little piece of George in their home because it sure made me realize how lucky i was to have it the way I had it! You are missed Mr Jones
Who's here after the george and tammy show lol 😆 great series I hope it turns the younger generation on to jones God knows he's better than all artists that sing today in any genre.
This man has been so much a part of my life so long that I feel when he died, a part of me died to. There will never be another George Jones. I have lived the lyrics to many of his songs as much as many of you have. When I listen to his music it has gotten me through a many hard times. You are missed o'l friend. I'ts hard to know there will be no more music from you.Your voice is silent, but not forgotten. R.I.P. George
I was driving when I got the news of his passing. I cried like a little baby. Been listening to him since my parents brought me a cassette tape of his from one of his shows when I was a kid.....at least 30 years ago. I know exactly what you're talking about! Will always be the greatest to ever do it! Blessings
One of the very best old George has ever done! My old straight-laced preacher dad didn't always agree with some of George's life choices, but he loved George's voice on those old country songs and went with me to see George one time. An American Treasure!
The tears fills my eyes when I listen to George, because his songs has meaning they touch you deep,so if you have someone to love and love you back.treat them right.the hurt run deep.
This was my Grandmother's favorite- now I am missing her and George! RIP Possum, there are younger folks listening to and playing your music and we won't let you be forgotten.
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
What is wrong with those 104 negatives , he is the greatest country singer of all times , I miss that he is no longer with us , he was & will always be my favorite,,,love George Jones , Canadian boy here , Johnny ,,, hugs all around ,,,,
This is probably the song that got me into ol' George . My dad would play this cassette on our way to a fishing spot in Palmer Rapids, Ontario. I still remember the hills we drove over as he sang. I miss them both. Best times of my life though....
This video is a great example of REAL talent. It's performed live, with no auto-tuners or special effects. Maybe just a hint of reverb, if anything, and it's perfect. George's vocals, the steel guitar playing of the late, great Hal Rugg, and the rest of the band, sound as good performing live as they did on records. I just wonder if any of the current so called "new country" singers could even get close without all the electronic enhancements. What Doyle said at the end of the vid was right
This rendition is one of the very best vocal performances I have ever heard - EVER. This comment comes from a classically trained musician. George Jones is the absolute best - this song moves me to tears every time I hear it. Absolutely stunning. Love ya, George!!!
This singing performance proves why George Jones is the greatest of them all . . . he's hauntingly beautiful, painfully perfect. He is on another plane than the other pillars and giants of the genre. He just digs deeper into the human heart and finds something very visceral. No one can match him. 1. George Jones (smooth as silk, soulful, bluesy, effortless pitch, pure, raw emotion, smooth purrrr, deep bass,hick-up twang, nasally twang, high, lonesome, haunting sound, his vocals can do it all
I've always said, when it comes to country singers it's a tie for #1. Hank Williams and George Jones, 1A and 1B. Might have to actually give Possum the nod though, just for the sheer volume of great work. Consider myself fortunate that I was able to see Jones in concert once. It was a year or two before he died, and while he was clearly limited physically (he didn't move around much on stage), his voice still sounded great. I bought a tee shirt at that show, and even though it's doubtful I'll ever fit into it again, I'll never throw it out.
Although I'm from Texas with an aunt who's 1st cousins with George, I never paid much attention to him growing up. This song is presented so beautifully and so perfect, it makes me cry. I can listen to these songs and cry all day... so the only problem is, is i can't stop listening to these songs. Being an avid listerner and musician most of my life did not prepare me for the timeless music of George Jones. I realized, I'm not sad listening to his sad cowboy songs, I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed with the depth of his singing and originality. I still dont know how to express these feelings about his music. Thank you for being here on Earth with us, George. And sorry I missed seeing you at the Houston Rodeo while you were here. I didn't know country music like yours until now.
The greatest. Ever. Whoever gave this a thumbs down should be booted off youtube. And you don't have to be from the south or the country to be moved to the core by this man's singing.
His voice is smooth and elegant, just like a finely tuned pedal steel guitar. It's almost like he has a foot pedal in his throat! I firmly believe that this man is the finest singer to ever grace this earth.
Georges life comes out in his singing. It resonates through his voice in a way I have never heard in any other singer and I mean ANY other singer. He has lead a hard life which is why, when he sings some of his sadder songs, you want to grab a beer, jump up into your old pickup that won't start with your old flea infested dog and cry.
very good perform by the possum....I just love a song of George is she combs her hair...so emotional...is anybody have already heard this beautiful song?
Oh my goodness. I sure wish we still had music like this. I feel sad that people today don't get to hear this kind of true classic country. George this is so pretty.
Harold had that Shot Buddy all tuned up with those Hoosier mods. George singing young and hungry. Listen up, this is some of the finest steel guitar backing ever.
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
George Jones clearly has the best country/western voice of all time, but more importantly the man knows how to use it!! I could listen to him all day. I was just having a pedal steel marathon (such a beautiful instrument) , and it came to me...the dude swallowed one! It all makes sense now.
I live 5 miles as the crow flies from Vidor, where he grew up,and I've heard it that way, also! I was just quoting the host of the show.Listen to the end!
My dad's cousin wrote this song Don Loyd chapel born Loyd Amburgey and was married to Tammy wynette for a while n had Martha Carson (Amburgey)that sang Satisfied and opel that sang but daughters had a band called Amburgey sisters and also changed to sunshine sisters
"I'll be over you when the grass grows over me", this song reminds me of how my Brother Bobby felt about his wife leaving him for another man, the grass has been growing over him since 1986 and his wife a month ago. Husbands and wifes stay True to each others walking together through your Green Grass as long as you live.
