He did the National anthem at a NASCAR event at Bristol Motor Speedway (at the night race I think). Best National Anthem that I've ever heard or seen at any sporting event! Crew members on pit road were wiping their eyes before he finished. He sang it with the same reverence as a christian hymn (Amazing Grace or How Great Thou Art).
The dirt track I raced at played this before the heat races. To be lined up on the front straight away, strapped in, heart pounding, and George singing over the loud speakers, is a memory I'll never forget!
A country radio station in my area used to play the National Anthem every morning at 5 a.m. I would hear it every morning on the way to work. This was in the regular rotation. Thought it was one of the best renditions I ever heard.
I know exactly where I was in space, yet not in time when I heard this. On Hwy 8 heading up toward the Grossmont summit, between El Cajon and La Mesa, in the morning listening to KSON. I think it was spring 1992, that's why I can't say for sure; but it was long before 9/11. I was young and I had tears coming down. It just reminded me of all the sacrifices our founders and soldiers and their families made to bring forth this experiment in Liberty on this planet. George Jones is so expressive and beautiful in his songs; A gift to country music, and I know it warnt easy for the women involved either. God Bless the USA is all, and Mrs. Jones.
Well today is July 4, 2016 at 4:32 am, and I wish each and every one of y'all a happy 4th! Thanks to all the men and women who have fought for this great nation. O'er the land of the free, and the HOME OF THE BRAVE!! 🗽 God bless the U.S.A!
This is the anthem they play at Rockfish I think... Everytime I hear it at the track, I get an adrenaline rush because I know within 2 minutes and 7 seconds, the green flag will drop.
