"The One I Loved Back Then (The Corvette Song)" is a country song written by Gary Gentry and recorded by American country music singer George Jones. It was recorded for his 1985 album Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes, from which it was released in late 1985 as the second single. The song peaked at number three on the Hot Country Singles chart in early 1986.
Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes is the 45th studio album by American country music artist George Jones, released in 1985 on the Epic Records label.
The album is best known for the title track and its classic video, which would go on to win the CMA Award for Video of the Year. In the song, Jones sings of the irreplaceability of country music legends, including Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Rich, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell.
George Glenn Jones (September 12, 1931 - April 26, 2013) was an American musician, singer and songwriter. He achieved international fame for his long list of hit records, including his best known song "He Stopped Loving Her Today", as well as his distinctive voice and phrasing. For the last twenty years of his life, Jones was frequently referred to as the greatest living country singer.

lyrics: I stopped off at the Quicksack for some beer and cigarettes The old man took my money as he stared at my Corvette He said, I had one just like her son, in 1963 Till the man down at the bank took her from me Son she was hotter than a two dollar pistol She was the fastest thing around Long and lean, every young man's dream And she turned every head in town She was built and fun to handle son, I'm glad you dropped in She reminds me of the one I loved back then So I handed him the keys and said, "Here take her for a spin" The old man shook his head and then he looked at me again and grinned He said, "Georgia don't think you understand it ain't your little car I want It's the brunette in [Incomprehensible] that's turnin' me on Lord she was hotter than a two dollar pistol She was the fastest thing around Long and lean, every young man's dream And she turned every head in town She was built and fun to handle son, I'm glad you dropped in She reminds me of the one I loved back then she was hotter than a two dollar pistol She was the fastest thing around Long and lean, every young man's dream And she turned every head in town She was built and fun to handle son, I'm glad you dropped in She reminds me of the one I loved back then She reminds me of the one I loved back then

I'll never forget meeting George Jones back stage. I asked him if he would mind if I gave him a kiss.😁💕 And in his amazing George Jones voice, he stated... " Oh I think that can be arranged" ❣️

Watching a few of Waylon's clips a few days ago, I noted that most of his band members from back up singers on up, looked like they were scared to death, afraid they were about to get fired, seems like everyone in this band has/had a smile on their face, having a hell of a time, behind and incredible performer.
