The depth of knowledge in this interview is great. I love interviews of old guys they have so much perspective. Hubie Brown has some great interviews about the early days of professional basketball in the NBA.

I've met his wife a couple of times and she's awesome and very kind. He came off as distant and uninterested in talking to anyone and I understand that to a point.

He is fortunate not to have joined P.J. Carlisemo as a coach who got hands put on!!!(choked) . . . but sounds pretty damn deserving with comments directed at Carmelo and Kenyon not having fathers around to show them how to be men!!!Really dude, who in the f ____ taught you!!!!

Dan-The quality of basketball today from the top teams is actually better than it was in the 90s. 90s basketball was mostly pick and roll and isolation. Today we have the pace and space offenses with a lot more ball movement and player movement. It's much prettier to watch San Antonio or Golden State play today than to watch the Utah Jazz from the 90s running pick and roll after pick and roll. In terms of thinking the older players would score more points; they would not have to deal with hand checking but they WOULD have to deal with zone defenses and schemes set up to stop them. The old illegal defense rules really helped stars to dominate the game. Oh, and George Karl is scum.

Well the defense is different. I would be curious as to see if Assist in today's league resembles that of the 90's and field goal percentage. I think those 2 stats would determine what era had more of the fundamentals.

San Antonio and Golden State are largely anomalies in today's league. There are a lot of mediocre teams with stagnant, iso heavy offenses that are just dreadful to watch. You talk about the illegal defense rules of the past making it easier for offensive players but zone defenses are exceptionally easy to beat for decent NBA teams. The NBA removing the allowance of any semblance of physicality on defense has made it substantially easier for star players to score points. Great players of the past would definitely have a field day under today's rules and would have a parade to the foul line.

@@ryan49er1 This era of ball has better fundamentals; a lot of young players back then were raw, underachieved, or played too one-dimensionally to be considered fundamental.

@@gluserty Disagree....A lot of players spent most of their time developing 4 years in college before being able to join the NBA

@@ryan49er1 Other than the Duke guys (especially Grant Hill, since he was a legit superstar), a lot of guys came into the league in short time (I recall Marcus Camby even being a little raw, same with Jerry Stack house. Jason Kidd & , to a certain extent, Glen Robinson were polished). Great players long in both College & ability really stopped with Tim Duncan, and Duncan was rare by that point (still is). I feel the last year that many excellent players made it in the pros while having a substantial resume was 1992 (Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, and the overall quality that followed those two).
