Malibu Multi-Media (714-642-5964) - exclusive videographers for Guitar Generation Tour starring George Lynch, Paul Gilbert and Richie Kotzen in the all-star jam.
I just love Richie Kotzen's playing so much. I think he's quite an underrated player, even though he did have quite a bit of exposure in the '80, he separated himself from all the shredder scene and went to try to find his own voice. He's just amazing at playing, singing and composing. And it's great seeing a rock guitar player with long hair nowadays for a change!!!
This wasn't a competition folks! It was about three very different and equally unique in style and tone players, getting up there and jammin..old school styleeee. Why do people always do this "teenage" type comparison nonesense of "my guys better than yours". Get a life and enjoy the spectacle of 3 incredible and unique guitar players just doing what we all wish we could do!
Mister Mann the only scale that he knows is the pentatonic minor or his version of that i should say but it’s cool cause he uses the c sharp and the d sharp in a minor so thats why he sound so good in the key of a or any key for that matter he uses that same shape for any scale
this is not a contest, people. these guys are just having fun trying to impress each other. each is an iconic player with their own voice. some playing "out" and others in.
Ritchie is insanely gifted.. great singer with out of this world guitar technics.. check what Nuno Bettencourt said about him after one of his concert.. when a guy like Nuno who can do absolutely anything with his guitar tells you that what you did during the concert is beyond what he saw any other guitar player do in years gives a clue about the extent of Richie's talent.. and he is not talking about technic but tone, vibrato, soul, creativity, expressiveness
Unlike the 80's, they now take your hand & walk you through massively technical guitar techniques on the net. it took us years to invent. We had to sit&rewind tapes or, just play scales. When I'd practice I wouldn't put my guitar down until I learned something new & mastered it. "Heres to all guitarists that got good by relying ourselves and our mind!" 80's guitarists made this allpossible for your generation. ~Rexx Michaels~
To my recollection, there also wasn't a ton of tab available back then. Most of the complete transcriptions back then were in musical notation, and had to be purchased. I remember some bits of tab covering various exercises in magazines like Guitar Player and such, but very rarely complete songs. Let alone complete song tabs available online for free.
@@mifune9634 There was a bit of tab but you were at the mercy of the three/fround songs in Guitar for the practicing musician that came out monthly. Guitar player was a much inferior magazine as it only had excerpts. Once in awhile they'd also release some tab books for a complete album but these were of usually dubious quality but would get you in the ballpark. We had to figure stuff out by rewind and if you were lucky a fostex that could play at half speed.
yes youre right. nobody ever will play like shawn lane. nobody will ever play like richie, paul, george, you, me, etc. we all have our own style. but coming to unrelated videos to say that these guys dont hold a candle to your idol is like knocking on someone's door and preaching religion. I'm glad your guitar idol makes you happy.
Some of the sickest shredding I have ever seen. All 3 virtuosos but I think Paul's licks were the cleanest and most creative... but not by much. All 3 make me want to sell my guitars. Rock on my brothers.
just my opinion-that's it- A. i admire any1 that creates music, not just copies-it is a gift! B.i never have nor will i ever judge another musician-music is personal-spiritual-unique 2 the individual. love metal-am BLS-VA./CALIF./BlackBlooded Chapters member, & George is awesome-per usual...but, i cannot understand how any1 can slam Ritchie or Paul in this-Ritchie has always been blues based & it is more than playing-u gotta feel it! 30 years exp.- just love 2 play-whats up-"utube hi school?"
Back when Kotzen was playing his Strat all the time and Paul was using his PGM models.. i miss those days. The Cornford is the best piece of gear on that stage.. so epic.
They're friends, you saw the Monsters of Rock Cruise Show where Nuno was sitting in the crowd watching richie ? also Nuno got on the mic & said some things, look up the vid, cool stuff
At least of the comments I felt like reading yours was the only one that was right...all are great and smoked on this classic song..no one was better or worse just rocked..
I love all three of these monster players...they are beyond the pinnacle of excellence in my book as each have put my jaw properly on the floor many many times. But this is not a competition...this is 3 monsters channeling the gods and sharing in this gift of music for the delight of us mere mortals. To those who seem to be slighting the monsterous solos of Mr Scary let me say that while both Kotzen and Gilbert are playing incredible stuff for sure I have to give mad props to George for trying to give us something a bit off the path of common...that comes with a risk. And he was willing ti take it...thank God for a guy willing to take risks...that has to count for somethin'
The 3 guys together is amazing, Lynch is still rocking like a hurricane Richie is so cool an lay back on guitar but still remains a shred machine Paul Gilbert can Pull licks outta nowhere an drop you like a Super Dreadnought Punch from Mike Tyson in his prime SMACK!!!
Paul is more of big time pattern player, Richie more bluesy, and george likes to play more in minor scale patterns more eastern sounding. They are great players who have contributed equal benefits to rock and roll.
I wouldn't call it "equal". Lynch has been an enormous influence on players with his style. Gilbert even moreso with his flawless technique. Kotzen is a great player who kind of disappeared into obscurity (other than playing covers with Poison).
I really like Paul on this he waits patiently and gives big solos to ritchie and george lol best part of the video is ritchie tripping out at pauls licks
He played a similar lick that Richie just did, more advanced, cleaner, sequenced it somewhat and generally upstaged him. Riche threw his hands up, laughed and basicly applauded it in admiration
He played the same lick but within an arpeggio ala neo-classical with more strings and some blues bends at the end. He basically made the lick more neo-classical with variations of techniques that Kotzen did not incorporate in the original solo.
@2patero I've been a luthier since I graduated HS in '80. I worked in a fantastic NYC shop. Many pros stopped in. I was very fortunate to get a chance to see them play up close for a half hour after a repair was completed. I always kept a cool amp in my shop. I was also a touring guitar tech. Had some great experiences. I found George to be very nice, a good looking guy, but he's a sun worshiper & his skin shows it. He can easily pick up girls half his age if he wanted to.
I love the video cause three great shredders are playing on it. I love this video cause Lynch is shredding a Telecaster. Most of all I am loving this video cause its good enough to stir up such passion.
Awesome performance, George Lynch still one of my favorites. Then I see hey is that Mike Szuter on bass? Mike is quite the guitar shredder too who’s on a Mission to Rock 🤘
Richie Kotzen is a huge guy, in fact he's a kinda guitar giant. Not only a big star but he is a rock of a man!! Awesome!! And he comes to Holland (Nijmegen June the eighteenth) a place called DOORNROOSJE!!
Remember it's just my opinion but I see & hear guys every time I'm at the local Guitar Center who play just like Paul & Ritchie, NEVER seen or heard anyone cop Lynch. I dig all 3 guys but, like I mentioned originally, it's George you can immmediately identify and would be the hardest to emulate. I've heard tons of players pull off Gilbert and Kotzen stuff (and Cooley and Petrucci for that matter) & sound just like them but nobody can even step in Mr. Lynch's yard, he just can't be duplicated.
