George Michael opened up about his sexuality during a 1998 interview with CNN, just days after he was arrested in a Beverly Hills, California, public park where he engaged in a 'lewd act' with an undercover police officer.
Him coming out is very helpful for people struggling with their own sexuality. We've got a role model. Society often makes us feel like freaks but it is normal to be gay. I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend, hope wounds are healing
For those who feel that George did not love Kenny, go through his music and look at videos where George made a few statements saying the he wrote a few ABOUT his feelings for Kenny. I get so tired at all of the hoopla over Anselmo being the ONLY man George really loved! His music proved that Kenny Goss held a special place in his heart. Not Fadi, but DEFINITELY Kenny. I think honestly that by Anselmo being his first homosexual lover, that put a deep place of compassion in George's heart for Anselmo. Also, it has been stated that Anselmo possibly was more experienced in REAL homosexual relationships than George. For all we know, George's heart may have been in love with the newness of feeling free SEXUALLY with Anselmo. I have met MANY women who fell madly in love with their first sexual partner. In my opinion, that could also pertain to ANY kind of sexual relationship, gay, straight, bisexual. So, my point is the RUMORS that George loved Anselmo MORE just irks me. George didn't tell his deep comparison between Anselmo and Kenny; his music stated his love for both men. ONLY George KNEW his extent of love for each man.

That case crossed out everything I had achieved by that moment. And the confession was like self-destruction in the name of salvation. In the end, I helped myself with my statement. "- George m. "He was so uncomfortable in his skin." Elton John has claimed that George Michael “didn't want to live” in the days before his death in 2016, and that the singer never came to terms with his sexuality... stop its means he wasn’t.. amazing singer 🙏
@@Septbaby1958 Oh brother please. His FIRST male lover? HA! That’s rich. I guarantee a man like that(rich and good lookin), was pullin ass left and right for YEARS before that he made that comment. And nothin wrong with it.
@@Septbaby1958 I agree with a lot of what you say but I think the difference between George's love for Anselmo compared to his love for Kenny is that Anselmo died, he went from being elated and in love to deep sorrow, it's in his music. I just think the death of his first real lover left a whole in his heart that never healed. I believe he loved Kenny equally but they just broke up like other couples do, it's painful but not the same as bereavement.
Never seen him an an interview before; such an intelligent, confident & refreshingly honest man he was. And so incredibly talented and humble. Such a tragedy; I can understand why Elton John collapsed in tears today while he was in the middle of singing one of his songs in his honor.
@@nikhilturner6422 I read how good friends they were. I also saw them kiss BRIEFLY on a video, and a picture or 2 of their locking lips. Free spirited men who could care less what others assumed about them.
@@Septbaby1958 As a gay guy I can say we do often kiss are good friends. It's such a strong bond to meet a guy you can be yourself and support each other.

I think it’s really sad, that he feels that he has to justify his sexuality to the world and the consequential link it had with his music. At the end of the day who cares what gender his music is for or whether he’s gay his music are masterpieces why couldn’t just appreciate it for what it was :(
Thank you! There really IS an adult here. Any person that says that being gay is evil is too immature to understand what life is all about. And to anyone, that is Religious and disagrees with this, Stop trying to play God. And any non-religious man or woman, grow up. Thanks. ;)
I’ve never been a gigantic fan of his, only liked a couple songs, but I’ve never related so much to someone in terms of sexuality/expressions in my life. He set a good example, avoiding labels and just living his life, loving whoever he loved
The man is Dead. No matter what he has died of, please let him rest in peace. He was a Great artist, Entertainer and his songs were truly from his heart. I think George only wanted to be himself and to be truly understood, but, he was never "Allowed" to be himself. Thank you George.
On top of his deeply philosophical, sensitive personality, people discriminated him for his sexuality throughout his career and treated him and Andrew poorly while in Wham! which of course spiraled him down into 20(?) years of depression and drugs after the final trigger was pulled when his lover and mother passed away. I cannot even bear to imagine what he had gone through and carry great empathy for him. He was a great man and he will be truly missed.
Kim he did not die because of drugs he died of Illness he denied ever being an addict he tried things in the 80s but he was never an addict if he is so honest here why would he need to lie about that
Idgaf if he's gay or not. Sexuality doesn't change who u r. Coming out doesn't and shouldn't change how u see people or how people see u. He was incredible and will go down in history coz he is such a legend and has loads of great songs.
@@reiwelsch he said it cuz Elton J saud that he should say it cuz media hate him and always said that he’s g.y. But where he kissed his friend Kenny this is kid hate lie. He was man who love woman but he’s style beautiful singer but a human. Thanks
When I first found out he was gay. I said why are all the gay guys so nice looking. He was a real gorgeous guy and so sweet. RIP George love you always. 💜❤️😷
The thoughtfulness and articulation of this guy at a time when he was being relentlessly persecuted by western tabloids is astonishing. He’s talking like it’s 2023, and make zero apologies for being gay. Hero
d. ganz Revelator gal Lewis simply said what Gods word declares about homosexuality . He didn't judge him besides the Bible says you can judge if it's done righteously
I miss you terribly...thankfully you are no longer being degraded and harassed by a population of people who neither respected your talent or your personal life. I will love you until I take my last breath...and after
i’ll be forever grateful of what george michael did for music and how it helped so many other people get through hard times. i miss him so much and will never get over his death x
No, you can't. They poison the minds of youth and decay the fabric of society. They are part of the reason for the lowering birth-rates and destruction of the family unit.
Moving is exactly what I would recommend to any man wishing to raise a family. Doing so in the Degenerate States of America is practically a suicide mission in the 21st Century.
Lawrence Kithinji A SJW is anyone who tries to shut down conversations by having public outrage over what they perceive as "offensive" behavior, language, etc. The person above you is a right-wing SJW. They find homosexuals to be "offensive" and are crying and whining about it. Also, FOX News being offended by Bill Clinton's affair, being outraged by rap music, or by being called deplorables, are all examples of right-wing SJWs.
gfgf fgff There is no evidence of that. Evidence shows that homosexual parents, who adopt children, on average, have a more productive household, and everything else being equal, the child does better in a household with homosexual parents than in a household with heterosexual parents. Also, using your logic, wouldn't infertile couples be "scum" as well. Just admit it. You hate gat people because you are a closeted homosexual. There are actual studies that show that a homophobe is almost always a closeted homosexual who has been repressed by Islamic culture or Christian culture, etc.
I love how the interviewer allowed George Michael to speak and let him tell his story. Well done CNN for not trying to ruin his reputation and being professional. Thankyou!!
Who gives a flying fuck if he was gay or not? - The man was truly talented and made great music & gave happiness to many people, he was also a very generous person who gave money to charities. Besides that, most of the UK pop stars moved to the US. But this guy kept it real. He lived and died here in the UK.
So sad that all this drove him to his grave. I hope the people who hounded him feel guilty. All the man ever wanted to do was make music and wonderful music that is. I've loved everything about him for 27 years sad to know he's gone 😢🥀
His sexuality made absolutely no difference in how I felt when I heard his beautiful voice in all his songs. He’s a beautiful soul taken way too soon. RIP George Michael 💜💜
What an intelligent, articulate and deeply self aware man he was. He was an incredible song writer and an awe inspiring performer. George-you were a gift from on high. I wept when I heard of your death. Your incredible humanity is being revealed everyday now in the press. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world. Love you always
For me by far the saddest celeb death of this year, where btw several big names have gone. He pretty much had everything in terms of a music artist (highest calibre), but he had huge likablity factor. Carried himself well on the whole, modest, kind, caring, introvert. When you think of the biggest male singers from Britain for the past 30+ years, two come to mind, George Michael & Elton John. Not going to bad mouth Elton, but i get the sense that the nation had an doration for George Michael as a person beside his music talent. Like you're not suppose to pick fav out of your children,brothers/sisters or cousins, etc... but deep down you might have one. That was George Michael IMO. Peoples fav!
every straight person in comment saying “his sexuality doesn’t matter”, i get that you’re trying to be supportive but that’s not what support looks like. his sexuality DOES matter. it’s an important part of him and his life. it should be celebrated and i’m glad that george was proud of his sexuality
My advice to all people famous, or not famous. Your private life is private. You owe no explanations or clarifications about anything which concerns your private life. George was a GREAT musical performer and I really enjoyed listening and watching him. What else should be of importance to me? NOTHING I have only on TABOO and that is anything to remotely do with pederasty, which has not to do in relation with this comment. I have no idea as to the cause of his young passing, but my prayers and best wishes are sent to him from everyone who loved his music. Everyone must listen to Michael sing the song, Brother, can you spare a dime? One of the most passionate performances in all of popular music. Ron
He was very Christian, and we can see that in the reward he got with that incredible talent to create beauty and to move millions of people emotionally. Very blessed special guy.
I love that he was clear that he was not ashamed of his sexuality but rather acknowledges that he is “compelled” to have this public conversation because of his behavior that exposed him. I think in general NOBODY wants to have a conversation about their sexuality; public figures are harassed into it by nosy, entitled viewing public.
George Michael is one of the most gifted musicians and singers that we've ever known. I admire the way he handled his outing and the way he was so candid and articulate about expressing his sexuality. R.I.P. George Michael. Truly a legend.
He was blessed by God and had his message to deliver to the world. He was a very special man, and the evidence he has left behind is how many millions of people he has moved, how many lives he has touched and how talented he was.
George Michael took an embarrassing situation and was forthright and bluntly honest. The facts and that's it. Michael even lampooned it with the video for "Outside" and that was great
I will give George credit, he did what he needed to do, acted as he needed to sell 25 Million Faith records.....I love that fact that many people who were probably anti-gay at the time bought his album and jammed to it...... Why it matters what he was into I didnt understand when I was 10 in 1988...the music was good.
I not only thank George Micheal for his music, i thank him for reducing homophobia ❤️ He is a good representative for gay people and he has given people a different view
who cares why it happens or why George was he had a right to be happy and be himself just because a few can't handle a pop star being gay he is supposed to hide in his room in shame hell no
He said he wasn’t in several interviews and documentaries he was still hanging on to the part of him that liked women but he knew it was men he was more interested in. He was and still always will be one of the greatest pop stars England have had his lyrics and his own musical talent is astounding! He was a proud man and lived his life his way with no apologies and that’s bad ass!
@@ryderstine8773 Did You even stop for just one second to think about the fact that that's Your personal interpretation, and not how others may see this comment?
i get very annoyed people conpartmentalising him down to just been gay and totally dismissing his amazing talent. (i think his one of the most vocally gifted singers ever) & his huge kindness giving millions to charity and good causes thought out his life.
A total Don. "I don't feel any shame" And why should he have? We loved him in our house and never cared about his private life or who he slept with it's all about the music with George Michael, and he was a giant of a songwriter, singer, producer and performer.
As a straight man I recognized his sexuality from day one with WHAM, his talents and professionilsm as a songwriter, singer and producer trumps anything about his preferences sexually. I've always enjoyed his music and talents. As I too was born in 1963 and gone through those days of secretly and uncalled for discrimination back in the 80's. I honestly teared up after when he passed away, George gave so much of joy to all of us who appreciate him for his major talents he is so missed but his music lives on forever in the hearts and minds for those of us who appreciated him.
I didn't care whether he was gay or not. He was an excellent singing artist and was a free spirit. It was his life and he was a handsome man. RIP George Michaels, your songs are the worlds memories of your talent.
I don't get why people hate gay people I don't hate them because they are humans and when I heard that George Michael was gay I was like okay good for him if he is happy I happy
I loved George Michael any way , it was his life not mine , being gay does not take away from his music or being a good honest man , he was a good man , very kind , very talented
I love George Michael his sexuality never should define the person he was..we should b allowed to love who we want..with no judgments..but sad thing is that's not the case. ppl live to judge the next person when they are not perfect.
Yes it is a bit odd that people define themselves and others by what they do with their genitals, and ignore other more defining qualities like personality and skills... I would hate to do down in history as the heterosexual dude...
RED TATTED plenty of gay people today don't get the crap he got all his career they were jealous of George the media was and still are thats why he got flack
I personally couldn't care about George's sexuality I liked him for who he was a truly wonderful man a great singer songwriter and he was absolutely brilliant handsome amazing RIP George sleep peacefully you were so loved by many xxxxx
it's ridiculous that so many focused on his sensuality instead of his genius in the musical arena; he was continuously questioned about him being gay, and about the whole restroom incident. Probably one of the reasons he turned to drugs. I hope he is at peace, I'm still sad that he passed alone on Christmas Eve. You are forever loved George Michael, your legacy lives on through your music.
GM deserves our respect for his honesty and integrity. He must be suffering for the past 10 years for hiding his sexuality. His music went to any higher level after publicly acknowledged he was gay. Love his music and person.
I don't know why all the media were so interested in his sexuality or better, intrigued by his sexuality... In general, when it comes to celebrities, we all tend to identify ourselves with them. So if we are straight we prefer thinking they are straight too, vice-versa if we're gay. It just makes us feel more comfortable and confident with ourselves. And after all I'm here longing for each and every detail of his life, trying to catch every single word, smile, gesture... He is a kind of magnet attracting everyone to him. 💖
The media gave him plenty of coverage due to his talent and massive career success, for the most part. George may have been openly gay - at least after his arrest - but he never gave big glimpses into his personal life.
George Michael was one of the best examples of a Christian that you can ever have, especially with his generosity. He obviously found Jesus and had a very special relationship with him.
I ALWAYSED LOVED Geroge Michael and his music 🎶 🎵 🎧, he was a TALENTED MAN and his coming out as gay inspired my coming out as gay in a way that wasn’t difficult. May his soul Rest In Peace 💙🙏🏾
Courageous Humble and so incredible honnest about his sexuality. It make no difference for me the fact that is gay. I love her song he wrote since I have 17 years old. Now i have 55 and i love his song again. Sir M. George Michael you are been such a remarquable person. Stay in peace. Thank for the song you wrote over this past 30 years. You bee never forget.
Why did he have to justify himself? That is crazy how ppl reacted when he did his coming out! I remember when I was child, it was Cccrazy! When listening to him, it feels like that he is embarrassed to tell all these words. It is sad. Ppl should live the way they want to.
George was cool regardless of his sexuality. Straight people engage in "lewd acts" as well. He banged a lot of women and found out he didn't really like them. What's wrong with that? When you have the fame and success that George did, women will swoon all over you no matter your sexual orientation. George didn't really look or sound really gay imo.
Borinakoune: THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! AMEN. I have WAITED for someone to bring up this FACT! straight people engage in "lewd" acts all the time and are not vilified for it. This man has had to defend himself for a STUPID mistake he made ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO.I have seen RAPISTS get less punishment and judgement then he did. theres something bass ackwards with that. . People do a lot of kinky things when it comes to sex yet the gay community get labled "sick. divants or perverts" . that's wrong. George certainly should not have done what he did and he apololgized a million times ... LET IT GO ALREADY. Yes.He had several girlfriends back in the day - women have always and will always swoon over him- he was a gorgeous man who oozed sex appeal. I didn't think he was gay until all this happened either. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. HE WAS A HUMAN BEING - HE DIDN'T HURT ANYBODY HE DIDN'T KILL ANYBODY.LEAVE HIM ALONE AND LET HIM REST IN PEACE!
I was one of those young girls who loved him in the Wham! days and I think his original followers realised he was gay around 1987/88. I remember no one around me (in Australia) caring - it didn’t matter. People liked his music - especially Freedom ‘90 - when we were out dancing or watching music tv. I remember thinking this 1998 was such a non-story because I thought everyone already knew he was gay and what he did with consenting adults was up to him. Tbh, I think only journalists and homophobes cared.
You are glossing over George's arrest for lewd behavior - that is the sort of thing that news outlets go out of their way to publicize. It's not a 'double standard' in regards to 'gay vs. straight', as you imply. Hugh Grant got just as much press - maybe even more so - when he was caught with a female hooker c. 1995.
I always believe homophobes are in the closet. I went to a wedding once and had to listen to some idiot all night talking about how much he hated gays. Then at the end of the night he made the moves on my husband in the back seat saying how good looking he was over and over. That made me open my eyes and was like wow. Truth sure comes out. Rip George Michael 🥀
It's funny but not so funny that most of these comments are a reflection of the people posting their own insecurities and hangups rather than just pay tribute to an honest man who took his talent to another level, RIP - let's see what all you nitpickers can do... unfortunately this is what much of America has become, let's see what you can do rather than what you can complain about... you wanted a simple solution, you got what you wanted, an unqualified idiot named Donald Trump... when did America lose it's ideals and become hoodwinked, better hope Trump gets booted out soon... ok I've come down to your level - back to the main topic, George Michael thanks for being honest and making beautiful music, like all the others that have left us too soon, you were a shining star - gone too soon...
Chuck Peacock George didn't have " hangups " he had gay " hook ups"! With strange anonymous men in public restrooms trying to prostitute himself for deviant anal sex . This was a very disturbed and sick human being that lived out a depraved lifestyle. We shouldn't be glorifying sicko pervs like him .
'insecurities and hangups' are universal, tho. Donald Trump was a controversial president, but there have been plenty of world leaders - past and present - who are (arguably) even more reviled than him.
