While this interview is very obvious in it's pop-culture-ness, I can't help but like the different types of questions neing asked in this interview than in others. For example, what would westeros be like in the future? To me, is a very interesting topic that I have thought about for a long time...
Patrick Rothfuss (Name of the Wind). Would be fun because of how much he talks, and since he seems to admire Wheaton I'm pretty sure he'd be up for it.
I think it would be great as a winter solstice special on geek and sundry if they got George R.R. Martin to GM a session with Will, Felicia, Veronica, and possibly a couple of other authors. I wouldn't mind watching a full 3-5 hour game session of them, and since this is the internet, there is really nothing holding them back from doing a special that runs that long. I've watched other youtube shows that have run for as much as 2 and a half hours a few times (Kevin Pollack's Chat Show).
Interesting and informative interview techniques of genre Fantasy & science Fiction. Enjoy your programmes. A keen follower of the Game of Thrones series. Very intriguing with twist and turns that encourage the reader to explore more avenues of interest. Great and real cool imagination George R R Martin. Always recommended your books as a librarian.
As you are asking a lot about tabletop gaming as inspiration for a number of the authors, I would like to see you interview some of the authors from the Black Library stable as they write within the worlds created from tabletop gaming. Graham McNeil or Dan Abnett would be great.
And yes while I do know that setting a story like this in a more contemporary setting would take away some of it's spice and it would make it seem preachy as it naturally becomes more of an allegory for our time, I think that if one even gets into the the habit of reading history that one would think of this as a golden oppertunity.
Sorry that was actually on my end, my headphones battery was dying and I did not realize it at the moment I commented, but it's all good =) Also great to see people involved reading comments, even on the internet.
It's called "No one can know except the writer because we don't already have the book", it's an symptom of the fact that we don't know what's going to happen with Jon Snow, because we don't have the book.
...Just think about it: imagine Westeros having it's own French revolution, or world wars, or steam-punk oil barrons, and revolutionary philosephers that inspires people to arms on account of there thoughts. And just for a kicker: imagine Kings Landing being overrun with 1960's-esque hippies instead of religous sparrows in the book to protest the monarchy. It would be hilarious!
"Remember that big red comet from Book 2? You know, it might come back and hit the world of Westeros and kill everyone so who the hell knows?" Watch that actually be how the series ends...
It's too bad he isn't like Doc Manhattan in Watchmen. He could give interviews, research, write novels and have a personal life simultaneously with multiple George R.R. Martins.
I think it was the side conversations that kind of cut GRRM out of the conversation for 10-15 seconds at a time. And possibly the questions that were coming up with ideas for his fantasy world. I don't know, I enjoyed the interview but if I were to change anything that would be it.
The cast of aSoIaF is very large and complex. Sometimes it's easy to miss important key factors/events/characters when your main focus is traveling only with the few introduced people of GoT. For you I offer this. In previous books. look for the Brotherhood without Banners and Beric Dondarrion. Also I just want to mention that the events of Feast for Crows and a Dance with Dragons parrel time line for a lot of the books. that's my hints for you. trying to be as unspoilery as possible.
Everyone is discussing the moment he finaly finishing his books. Its gonna be 8 books right? so 5/8 is 20/32. I just wanna drop two things without commenting them any further than the fact that sometimes im worried 07/20/48 Stieg Larsson
George R. R. Martin is kind of intimidating to me. It. Took him 20 YEARS!!! To write Game of Thrones?! I don't know if I have that kind of dedication as an writer. :(
SPOILER ALERT: A Song of Ice and Fire is going to end the same way as The Hunger Games trilogy; only this time, we don't know who's going to live to tell the tale right up to the end. And yes, I'm using my brain here, it's nothing "official".
okay, so im playing Skyrim atm and this video came on and i noticed in the dagger in the background looks almost exactly like mine (Mehrune's Razor). how'd they managed getting that?
SPOILER WARNING! I have a question regarding Ned Stark's wife, who I can't seem to remember what her name is... But I'm on "A Feast For Crows" Is there anything regarding her... "Change" after the Bloody Wedding chapters in "A Dance With Dragons"? or will I be left waiting to find out how the heck she changed like that till the next book is released...?
So was the Henry Jacoby interview supposed to be in this video? It seems like they either forgot to cut his interview out when editing the video, or decided to not even bother mentioning him in the title or video info... which seems like kind of odd.
please someone answers me what is going to happen with jon snow.. is he really dead? becasue i have heard rumors that he will live and his role would be kind of luke skywalker that means he will live but who knows is somebody knows something about it just tell me
if he isn't evil then i don't know what is... cersei is cruel yes but at least her motives are clear (the ends justify the means kind of gal) now joffrey on the other hand... what the hell could he possibly want other than unnecessarily inflict pain on others :| i think that's evil
The guy in the begining is wrote the bookk because he was following pop culture. Smart move, but i read all thebooks before the series was ever decided to come out. I am starting to get tired of the show....cuz i wan't R.R Martin to finish his DARN BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if Martin will come out in book 7 or 8 that Tommen or Marcella is actually one of Robert's offspring. I mean, it's obvious that the kids are of insest but what if one actually is am authentic Baratheon but just so happens to be blonde like the lions. =/ might give a nice dynamic to the legitamcy of the lawful king to the Iron Throne. Think about it... along with that and the truth about Jon Snow. oh man! the Winds of Winter can be Epic. Lets go Double G Martin, you got this! =D
Since you're picking fan questions, you can start by being more selective. Do you really think we care about the "future" of Westeros beyond these books? Silly question and a waste of your precious time with a great author. Most of the questions raised were nonsensical and seemed like the whole thing was a tangent conversation. I would have asked for an update on his progress on book 6, or what part of the book/story he's the most nervous about being lost in translation on the show.
