I love how he says "nobody came back." Meanwhile, the rest of The Band toured without him and then recorded more albums without him. Sounds like he's the one who didn't come back or maybe they just didn't want him around anymore because he's such a phony.
Guy who walks around solo all the time, never did anything solo his whole music life, from the Red Road Ensemble to Howie B to Levon and Rick and Richard. Still a good singer, writer, and player. Definitely an encyclopedia but still going down as a sneak with less soul than all of his partners.
Rick Danko should have got his share of the songwriting. They all should have. It's not an allegation that Robbie didn't write some of the defining aspects of Band songs, from lyrics to chord sequence to solos and improvisations. A sneak is someone who sings into a microphone that isn't on.
In fact, you made your debut performance in your first-grade class. Yeah. I sang a couple of Lefty Frizzell songs, I think "Mom and Dad's Waltz." Might have done "Long Black Veil" as well, by Lefty Frizzell, when I was five years old. Song was written in 1959. Why would Danko think he was in the first grade in 1959?
"Mom and Dad's Waltz" was copyrighted in 1951. Danko was 8 years old. Levon Helm may make mistakes in his recollections, but his book and decades of interviews have no credibility. Got it. His last minutes with Richard Manuel should also be discredited, and Rick Danko was in top form three days before his death. Got it again.
