Splendid sword. An artistic concession: the painting "Washington Crossing the Delaware" about Trenton battle in 1776, it is at least two years before the forging of this sword.

I have seen several spellings and pronunciations of this type of sword. The title of this video uses cuttoe. However, the spelling I believe to be most accurate is the French word, couteau. The exact translation of couteau is knife.

A katana is more of a two handed weapon. Washington's sword here is more one handed like a sabre. Both have their pros and cons.

As someone who has studied and loved both historical times, the American revolution and the age of samurai in Japan, I would say that the definition of the question is important. The samurai sword, a katana, is undoubtedly stronger. Swords of the colonial era were also very strong, but not at the level of samurai. Katanas had a ranking of 1-5, samurai would carry 5’s. The number represents the number of heads it can chop of in one stroke. Colonial swords cannot chop of heads. Washington though, did have the best sword, because he was the most important. You can tell the person who crafted spent many many hours. They didn’t just make it for show. But the samurai swords were everything. They would spend 4 days and nights melting the steel used for it, then they would hammer the blade out, lightly, folding it over and over about 1000 times to make a zero carbon blade. The layers create an extremely strong sword. The colonial swords do not do that technique, they build them differently, and it is not as strong as a method. Thus the samurai sword is better as a sword.
