one thing about Georgia, she's not gonna let anyone bully her and her children. also about Marcus and that planb thing he said. that's exactly a stupid thing a teenager would say. ofc as an adult you'll be shocked to hear it but it's not unjustified
the thing I love the most aboutg this is how complex all the main characters are, you'll see later on. all of them are good but flawed and so are their relationships, just like everyone of us. I think that's why the show works so well apart from all the plot twists.
A lot of people love Georgia because she did so much for her kids even at such a young age……but nobody takes into consideration that she accidentally passed down generational trauma to them, she never took their mental health into play, she shut out Ginny from getting to know her black side since Ginny is black, and she committed fraud by filing for credit cards in Ginny and Austin’s names which would give them bad credit when they turn 18.
i mean, i think that’s the entire point of her character. that she tried her best in a lot of ways when she had NO IDEA how to be a mother and no role models at all, but she has still screwed up in massive ways and makes terrible choices. how she loves her kids deeply and would literally kill for them, but still ends up hurting them. i think people take the show at face value and just think of how cringy it is on the surface but it really is an interesting exploration of generational trauma and how far reaching and insidious the impact of abuse is even decades later. we as an audience are supposed to sympathize with georgia bc of all the awful things she went through that nobody deserves but we are also supposed to sympathize with her kids and the way that having an emotionally immature mother screws them up.
I definitely watched this show more so for Georgia, but thats not on Ginny!! Ginny's friends in the beginning, were really shitty. I hate that I share a name with her but, "Abby" is the girl that practically peer-pressured Ginny into shoplifting, then blamed her when they were caught. Me personally, I would have lost it, and NEVER speak to her again! Absolutely insane😧
Im not really sure if i can say if Georgia's a good mom. Shes the fun mom, but taking out credit cards in her kids name is actually seriously fucked up
i mean, being a mother is hard. Being a single mom even more. There is no correct way to be a mom i think. Because if you give your kids all the toys they want and pamper them, they could end up spoiled and entitled or humble, appreciating what their mom did for them. She def did things that were completely wrong imo but she is a mom that never really had a childhood nor great parents. Rant is over lol she is a very complex character

@@xapokalypseyes, but what she’s doing is objectively financial abuse. No other way to put it. Georgia throughout the show refuses to go to therapy and continues to emotionally and financially abuse her children, literally setting them up for failure, which I can’t sympathize with.
@@af2954exactly. I feel like the ppl that side with her the most are children themselves. They give her brownie points for doing what a parent supposed to do. Ginny has said it herself that she wants a mother and not a friend. Then they wonder why she doesn’t respect her “mom”. I love both characters but Georgia has a lot of flaws.

Not a huge fan of ginny being like "oh, im too white for the black kids" but when that one girl tried to be friends with her, ginny completely blew her off and would rather be friends with those toxic girls who got her to shoplift and made her take the fall. Im just not vibing with that. Im just getting the vibe that ginny likes to make herself the victim
Agreed, but a lot of that is the result of Georgia raising Ginny alone. there is only so much a white mom can do for a black/mixed daughter on her own. we haven't really seen her ever trying to expose Ginny to her own culture. like, she just moved her daughter to a school where shes one of 7 (or 6?) black kids. I don't think Georgia isn't trying because I'm sure she learned how to do Ginny's hair young, but there is still more she could do. even if its as simple as bringing Ginny to black salons more often and leaving her there alone for however long her style takes once shes like 10+ so she can have her own space with black people, without her feeling weird about it at first since her mom is there. plus, in future episodes we find out more context as to why Zion isn't around a lot, and in that case i kind of feel like theres a lot of blame to be had. Zion's parents were right that the baby would likely be better off with financially stable parents, but they never should've pressured young Georgia so much. Zion obviously could do more, but idk my feels on him are kinda mixed. Georgia was a young teen with a shit family life, it makes sense she'd cling to her baby and percieve Zion's parents as a threat to her custody. so that situation feels slightly less like her fault but as an adult, we don't even know if Georgia has ever gone out of her way to make friends with black families with children close to Ginny's age. What we have seen is that Georgia's ex Kenny was upperclass, smoothie drinking, yoga class kind of white, and half the people I've met like that (as a upper-middle class white woman, myself) are not the kind of people who willingly make black friends. sure, he could've been perfectly tolerable but he was willing to touch Ginny innapropriately so i dont have much hope for his moral standards (like seriously, dude. isn't Georgia young enough for your old ass?? you gotta go for the underage daughter too?) obviously i'm not the authority on this since i'm white, but i've seen a lot of discourse online about this so most of what i've written is what i've seen actual black people say, as well as thing's ive noticed in my own life.

I'm so here for this wild ride of a show. Georgia is such a great character because they do such a good job with her backstory and you learn the trauma that built the very complex women she has become. Hopefully this will keep us entertained until we get to see Jonathan Bailey in Heartstopper this fall!
I grew up in the eighties before there were cameras in stores. Me and my younger siblings were horrible. We went into a store once and just filled up our backpacks with stuff. 🥴🤦♀️ 13:54

listen. I guess opinions are different when it comes to Marcus. I watched all the episodes that are out and I couldn't stand him. at all. like, he doesn't get better for me. and I don't approximate his growth. I guess that's the adult in me that's talking, maybe if I was a teenager while watching it, he would've charmed me. but I can't see the appeal there. anyway, Georgia is my favorite. and very fucked up amazing human being.
