I'm a retired journalist in this county. The sheriff was a career campus cop before taking office. There were well known issues with his hot temper, territorial tendencies, and other unsavory concerns at the college. The city officer was pursuing a vehicle that exceeded the city's speed limit. The law permits pursuit beyond city limits if the offense occurs in the city's jurisdiction. Neither handled the situation appropriately in my view but if you knew the history, it would make more sense. I investigated many problems concerning this sheriff, including unconstitutionally blocking critics from the agency's social media page, severe deputy misconduct without discipline until after it drew public attention, and withholding open records. He's all around bad news. Edit: I forgot to add that his department not only arrested someone, but boasted about, a large amount of meth that turned out to be baking soda at the crime lab. Kid you not. I looked into allegations against the city department on several occasions as well, but there was never any evidence of wrongdoing on their part.

As someone watching this through a screen ,this was just too hilarious. If I were the person getting ticketed I wouldn't be laughing too much though, more terrified if anything honestly.

This happened about 10 miles from where I live. The sheriff has his hands full, trying to overcome decades of shady, good old boy-style, law enforcement practices. He's trying to crack down on the drug trafficking, and I'm not sure Hiawassee PD is being overly helpful, to put it gently. This area has been plagued with some HORRIBLE excuses for police for a long time. There are good folks enforcing the law, too, but, they need to cull the bad apples.

Ken was head of campus police at the college for years before he became Sheriff, and he was getting in pissing contests over jurisdiction even back then.
