christina, i am also an ms chem engr working in industry considering applying to gatechs cmpsc program...i was wondering how you were able to work as a developer in industry with a chem engr background
In past software industry had skill shortage. Between 2000 to 2005, there weren't enough software developers for booming web development. Many companies took people with non software degree as trainee employees. If they are quick learners, they got full time jobs. Unfortunately that option is not available now. However, you can still become developer. There are many free online trainings (including one from MIT). Once done, go to freelancing websites and try to get some work (may need to work for near 0 pay till you get good customer ratings). Once you have strong freelancing profile , you will actually make more many than any company would pay you.
@@kroypatcha don't know where ur getting your stats from but developer is still one of the most in-demand fields. Look at BLS expected to grow way faster than average.
