Great vid. I’m thinking of going to Tech for the summer program and ur vid was so helpful. How many hours would you say that you spend on hw/studying every day? And how much harder was it for the transition into fall semester?
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful for you. I would say maybe 3-4 hours a day would be on the upper end, I can't really remember anymore haha. Im not sure how the transition will be if your iGniTe program is virtual, but the fall semester was maybe 2x harder than the summer program just given the additionally number of classes and having exams, but by this point you've already gotten some practice with time management.
Did you get to take then fall and spring semesters too? Or did you take spring semester off? Do you have to keep doing this rotation with summer semesters from there on too?
Olga Kershner Yes, I then took the next fall and spring semesters! And no, iGniTe is only the summer before your freshman year. Your college experience is still the same as everyone else’s, you just get to start a little earlier.
Hello, Thank you for the video! I'm going to the iGniTe program this summer, and I am kind of panicking with the crammed classes and difficulty of them. I don't want to start off with a low GPA...are there any classes that you recommend that are easier than others and are there classes that we should avoid?
Piano's Passion all of the classes are pretty easy since they know where you are coming from. i totally recommend taking an english class because it’s waaaaay easier than taking a class during a regular semester (personally, with my professor, we didn’t even read any books nor have any essays, just some blog posts and an annotated bib). everyone is required to take GT1000 which is an easy A if you come to lecture (which is really boring but super easy). You have so much free time than a regular semester, so try to get out your prereqs/humanities and it will make your other semesters easier not having to deal with them. hope this helps!
Also, what is the difference in the signing up into "Tracks" if you are taking core classes any way? Is it that one credit hour class then that everyone has to take is different for Track groups depending on the "Track" that you chose? I have so many credits already from dual enrollment that should transfer that I only need one or two core classes before major classes. Did anyone take major classes?
I found this to be a great opportunity to get rid of your core classes, especially since it's typically harder during a regular semester. For example, I took English 1102 and it went by like a breeze, while I had friends who took it during a regular semester and were swamped by all the reading assignments. I'm not quite sure exactly what the point of the "tracks" were except to balance out the number of students taking each class so that the classes weren't overfilled. I don't know of anyone taking major-specific classes, since the classes offered over the summer are often higher level (2000+ level).
If your concern is efficiently getting through all of your required courses, I would take a look at the suggested curriculum for your major (ex: google "mechanical engineering gatech curriculum"), see if any classes offered are pre-requisites for your major-related classes, and take those courses. Otherwise, if your Buzzport account is set up, you can see which kind of credits you need that aren't related to your major, like humanities. During orientation I'm pretty sure you get to meet with someone who will advise you on classes are a good idea to take, and follow that.
If you mean your curriculum (like what classes you need for your degree) you can just google "Georgia Tech XX Curriculum". If you mean specific to iGniTe, you'll get an email telling you to choose a path/concentration and you'll be able to see which classes you're supposed to take. If you're curious about the registration process, they'll teach you during freshman orientation, so no need to worry about it now . :)
@@laurenzhou9900 okay thank you. I thought we had to register for classes now, and I was so scared bc I don’t know what I’m doing. I didn’t realize how stressful it was to make sure you didn’t forget to do something. Thanks for your help!!
@@paigewhisler11 No problem! Yeah, there are a lot of steps you have to do beforehand it can get a little overwhelming. Good on you for being so detail-oriented! It comes in handy when you have to keep track of all your assignments and exams.
I'm not sure because I'm out of state, I would email the financial advising department for a better answer but I'm pretty sure my in-state friends didn't have to pay out of pocket beyond housing.
