ProBusiness Video of Salt Lake City, Utah produced this story about the most inventive, progressive and eco-friendly energy system in the world is the cornerstone of a national consciousness that is a blueprint for the world's future.
I love Iceland. Since I was a kid I've always been fascinated about this country. It's just so majestic, isolated and beautiful. I wish I can go there someday.
I'm in Maine. A friend from Mass. was trying to bring geothermal heating up here, to no avail. There's money in sticking with the status quo, even at the local level.
I would love to found a city who's energy is based solely on renewables such as geothermal, tidal and wave energy with hydrogen conversion for vehicles. Iceland really gives me hope!
Thank You for this State of the Art documentary. We lived in Iceland from 1982 through 1985. What an enlightening experience. We were at the NATO base at Keflavik. The 'God Falls in your film, sure are awesome, are they not? Do you have any film of the year around green houses also, using the energy--raditators in bldgs for the heat, it is awesome the way the Icelanders (the Vikings) not only survive, but, thrive. Thank you, again
The self made hell (Sjálfskaparvíti) is not shown in the video. What is shown is Víti in Krafla. Sjálfskaparvíti is only about 10-20m wide. Víti was created by natural causes
@Re9syr: Surprisingly, it's roughly the same as what I'm used to paying here in the States. Rent is a tad bit more expensive, but not by enough to shake a stick at.
I come from Iceland, and i love Iceland with all my heart! but i live in denmark couse my mom moved :( but i go visit about 5-8 times a year when i turn 18 im gonna move to Iceland again! :D .. only 3 years to go!!
It also deliberately reduce the chance of erupting lava from volcanoes since energy mass under the beneath of the deep surface is coming out of the air. But the question is how long such a well hole remain active with such a high pressure as it is gushing up over a long period of time.
We have the same intellegent people here, but not the economic incentive. They are makeing to much money keeping us hooked on oil. Billions of dollars for outdated dehumanizing highway systems, billions for new cars every year. Billions on outdated transportation systems in large cities.Billions to build and heat large houses, instead of smaller more sustainable living quaters, that everyone could afford. They are makeing so much running this country into the ground they would be crazy to stop.
It depends on what you mean by "beauty." If you're looking for the architecture of Prague or the romance of Paris, it ain't there (except some areas of Reykjavik). "Stunning" and "unearthly " are certainly words that apply. If you don't think "stunning", "unearthly", or "desolate" and "bizarre" qualify as "beauty", don't go.
Although a very nice video, it does state a little bit of inaccurate information. "Geothermal has no Green House Gas emissions" Not entirely true. Geothermal brine is full of hydrogen sulfide gas and benzene amongst other things.
The good news it's becoming easier to make money in renewable energy in the US because Americans want it. The bad news is the entrenched special interests that you mention and the political power they are wielding to maintain the status quo. Change is hard for old people. An entire generation (mine) is going to have to die before we understand what the rest of the world already gets.
As we just saw in their elections (kicking out the right wing crooks who wrecked their economy- sound familiar?), things happen and spread faster in such a small nation. Plus, a good idea is a good idea. If you wait too long to implement it, it's often too late i.e. GM's electric car.
It's only called the Venus Project because the guy who developed it lives in Venus, Florida. If he lived in Jupiter, Florida is probably would have been called the Jupiter Project. lol. Don't get all hung up on names and hidden meaning nonsense. He didn't name the city he lives in. It's not much of a stretch to simply name your self study project after the city you live in, especially if the city name is unique anyway. So judge the Venus Project on its merit and solutions, not its name.
@Peterwhitlock You can't just pick parts of a story to facilitate your negative attitude. Jacque joined the KKK in order to dissolve it, much like he did other racist and bigoted groups. His goal was to see if he could change their minds about their negative beliefs. In some cases, he did. So if he can change hard core people, he should be able to enlighten people to a new way of thinking about how we manage the world.
Peterwhitlock - Is it too much to ask that you use proper grammar and punctuation in a post? I don't understand a single thing you said, aside from the notion that your accusing Jacque Fresco of being a God hater. When's the last time God did anything positive for humanity? Um, nothing. As for him moving to Venus, Florida just so he could name his project The Venus Project, show me proof of that, not just your words. It's easy to just say what you want...the trick is proving it.
@Peterwhitlock So to just say, "He was part of a racist group," does NOT tell the whole story. That alone shows me you're just interested in spreading lies, not evoking the whole truth. The rest of your words carry no meaning now. I'm done with you.
