People forget that James White did all crazy stuff from the freethrow line before Zach Lavine

I seriously think if James White took off from the 3 point line on a fast break he could get close enough to the rim to lay it up. Imagine an announcer saying, "He lays it up...for three.".

Better than any slam dunk contest in the NBA. White's freethrow line dunks shit on Jordan's.

My favorite part was when they replayed each dunk 15 times.

White is better off one leg,and with distance...Green is better off two,and vertical.Green's ally oop windmill dunk in the NBA was one of the craziest dunks ever in a game.

A lot of ppl don't know James White was a track star in the long jump, triple and high jump. This is why he's so graceful in the air. You can also see the technique in his take-off and in flight. Gerald Green is just a natural leaper that can hoop. I use to watch him in high school, in Houston Texas

I absolutely agree with you about the dunkers. My point is that it was the best dunk CONTEST. I recall watching that live, and the hype and excitement was unparalleled. The showmanship of the likes of VC, T-mac, etc were unrivaled. These guys were superstars, and they knew how to get the crowd into it - the cockiness and confidence. When VC points gestured "it's over", that's unscripted vs the theatrics nowadays. It's not just the dunk, for me, it's the entire show.

This is the classic Dominique vs MJ battle all over again. In one side you have a great 2 legs jumper who jumps close to the basket and does incredible windmills in Gerald Green, and in the other side you have White who is a great one leg jumper and can do the free throw line dunk and other on trafic jams characteristic of the 1 legged jumpers.

You know you are insane when you have to try to avoid hitting your head on the rim while taking off from the free throw line.

James white got wings !!! He so close to hitting his head on that rim when he did that free throw dunk! Look closely and you will see he bends his head down at the last moment to avoid a collision with the rim or back board!!!

White looks like he's finally starting to slow down a bit, still nasty as hell but he wasn't able to pull off the bewteen the legs from the freethrow line. Even with the misses, this was a million times better than the nba dunk contest

keep in mind, 50 other guys have done a free throw dunk since VC, so free throw line dunking has lost cache in those last 13 years. its the same thing with the east bay funk (dunk between the legs)

3:00 so, he took off slightly in front of the free throw line, but he wasn't reaching at all for the dunk...he damn near dunked it behind his head...meaning he could have taken off significantly behind the line and still made it.

I think being "overly" athletic can be a bad thing. As many players who are that athletic cruise through High School competition and when they get to the pro's it's extremely hard against the guys who have relied on skill for most of their life.

I think the main problem was that he's 30 years old, and once he missed one dunk he has to go all the way back to the baseline and start again, he was just to tired to do anything after the first dunk...

i doubt he played every game lol, he got into the contest off of a tryout video after shump's injury. i'm only assuming we see white because the whole league is well aware of his dunking abilities by now. i would love to see a contest with Gerald Green, James White, DeMar DeRozan and anybody else willing to put on a great show this year.

Just read on ESPN his personal best was the same distance that won gold in London last summer. 27 feet 2 inches I think it was.

In a dunk contest yeah sure, even Nate Robinson (5'9) jumped over Dwight Howard who is 6'11. But Carter did it in a game, on the Olympics, over 7'2", without preparation, with limited steps, off of 2 feet... I agree that Green and White both have incredible vertical but that's not all there is to dunking. I'm not a hater, just expressing opinion, btw Green's alley-oop windmill was my favorite dunk of the season. Dude hops like a bunnay wabbit :D
