Join Sarah Reynolds, British Art Specialist, as she highlights Gerald Leslie Brockhurst’s ‘Portrait of Yvonne MacDonald, née Norton-Bell’.
The present portrait was commissioned by the sitter as a memento for her lover. Letters from MacDonald to her lover reveal that she sent him cuttings of the dress she wore for her sittings’, and Brockhurst was going to try and find an old hand-carved Spanish frame, which still frames the picture today.
The subject is Yvonne MacDonald, the heiress of a cattle ranching fortune, she flew planes and drove a Bugatti with élan.
