Watched that fight the week after this interview. Not a day went by that I didn't think about this man. Had the fight recorded on a VHS tape, watched it on a regular basis. Now that you tube and social media has come along, The G-Man most defanately will never be forgotton.
I felt exactly the same way. Then I watched an interview explaining how he taped up dogs mouths and let his pitbulls kill them. I hate to be that guy, but rather him than some helpless animal.
I'm 27 and I started boxing when I was 15 and I just found out about this man today and what happened to him. I noticed that boxing really tries to hide the ugly side of the sport from the masses
I'm 33 I started boxing when I was 5 I lost my passion at 18 when my uncle/trainer died....I found out about McClean honestly this year....shit breaks my heart how they basically hide this man....
@horrid henry stay off Benn's side with that shit. Count yourself lucky that this fight got made in the first place. Two wrecking machine 168s in their prime actually fighting eachother!
Its not a rumor. His sister even admitted he bet on dog fights and what not. Fucked up shit but what's done is done. Man was a great fighter and it sucks he went out the way he did.
@@centenario1820 McClellan was a piece of shit who bought dogs, taped their mouths shut, to test how long his pit bulls took to kill them. May he rot from the inside out and have a VERY long life 😂
@charlie Drake You're a total fucking idiot. Do some research before you open your mouth. G-man already had swelling on the brain that went unnoticed before the Benn fight. Julian Jackson was most likely the man who done the most damage to Gerald. Gerald was blinking like a mad man from round 2/3 onwards. Benn hadn't even caught Gerald flush and Gerald was acting as if he'd suffered a heavy blow to the head. The reason his gum shield was hanging out was because he physically couldn't hold it in his mouth, something was off from the bell. So no, it had nothing to do with the pace of the "Ferocious and great Nigel Benn" Benn got dropped in the first few seconds by a guy with a fucking brain injury for God's sake. When Gerald took a knee toward the end of the bout, it wasn't due to a blow, infact Benn hardly hit him flush at that point, Gerald just recognised something was wrong, as could most of the audience, and decided he couldn't continue. I guess your dumbass missed the part where G-man literally collapsed in his corner after the fight and was completely unresponsive, but yanno, dick head over here thinks it was GASSING PROBLEM. What a moron.
@Terry Thomas Are You for real??? The guy had a brain injury You muppet. Nothing against Benn, I actually thought He was a great fighter but had He been injury free He would of taken Benn out easily
This man was something different. Just wish He would of stayed with Manny Steward. It's all if's and but's now but I honestly believe had it not been for the brain injury that He actually picked up prior to the Benn fight, I think He would of gone down as one of the best fighters in history. He really was amazing!!
He was very much into dog fighting in the Worst Way. Very Cruel. I am a fan of Gerald the boxer, but sickened by his hobby. I still think he had the most natural power of any fighter I’ve ever seen. Both hands.Never forgot to go to the body.
People just remember the Benn fight but Gerald was a beast. He was one of the most feared fighters of all time. He was on it but Benn seemed super human in their fight 🤔 2 fights a year fairweather boxing 'fans' might have forgot about him but true fans will never forget x
-What are your strengths do you think? Boxing, punching, I can do it all. -Are there any weaknesses there? No. Just me. Awe inspiring. We are our own weakness. We create our own weaknesses. No excuses!
did you also hear about his dog fighting? he taped a labrador's mouth shut while his dog mauled it to death. That dog suffered a horrifying and prolonged death, this man deserved it. only an psychopath would let such a thing occur. this is karma in its most delicious form.
@@riki7426 that's changing the subject completely. Torturing any being with a heart beat makes you a despicable, heartless person. There is absolutely nothing that makes a human's death inherently more evil than killing an animal. Psychopaths often torture animals before they graduate to people. Do some research, or better yet: use your fucking brain and logic. And he didnt lose his life, he got brain damage from a blood clot that was present before the match due to his boxing lifestyle. Very different from taping a dog and throwing it in to get slaughtered without a chance of fighting bac
@Mahad Jabari "Isn't this morality thing inconvenient, don't tell people not to kill defenceless, comprimised animals by having them savaged for fun." What a fucking argument. It is possible to feel bad about what happened to him, and also be glad he never got the opportunity to subject defenseless animals to being torn apart to death again. Making excuses for that thing really underlines a shakey moral foundation in yourself.
I truly believe Benn was on PEDS that night, but, with McClellan’s dehydration from weight cutting, and his former fights with Julian Jackson, his aggressive sparring in the Kronk gym, his inexperienced corner, this was a disaster waiting to happen.
1 How was he Drained he moved up in weight .2 The Jackson fights only went a couple of rounds. 3 Ben was by then used to going 12 rounds Gerald wasn’t. 4 How do you know Ben was on PEDS Nonsense. 5 Gerald had a massive Wally in his corner called Stan Johnson. and that’s that….😞
He lost the fight because of a bad referee who wouldnt let him finish benn when he had him and let benn hit mcclelland in the back of the head the whole fight. Plus he was too cocky and used too much energy at the start of the fight and its clear he was suffering from his brain injury early in the fight also.
If the count is 'questionable' well then there is obvioulsly a question. There was interference along the ring apron, which is illegal so the ref allowed 20 second for Benn to gather himself.
He was great but getting rid of Manny was a massive mistake. He would never have beaten MM HAGLER if they were in the same era Hagler was the Guvnor 🌞 the only thing with Gerald was he never went the distance in fights and that’s what came on top with Benn
That`s something that hasn`t been considered......Gerald mentions "killing myself to make the weight" and losing eleven pounds before a fight. We all know that in Boxing " losing weight " the day before ,means losing fluid ( water). This could also have been a major factor in his brain injury.
@@robg4729 No..No..NOT every single boxer does. Marvin Hagler never struggled to make the weight,... nor did Sugar ray Leonard....or Mayweather...or Chavez . I could go on and on......
Do anyone else notice he glitched a few times at the beginning 🤔and eyes kinda rolled a lil bit ..You can see in his eye movement something is wrong and he knows it .
McClellan should gotten a CAT scan during this time cause his stablemates said his eyes erratically blinked when they spar with. a sign of some Brain damage
One if the best boxers ever. Nigel ben is not in this mans class. Watch the 1st round, he got robbed. The ref kep stopping him repetadly. Otherwise he had the fight finish there an then, im sure ben was out the ring more then 10 seconds too. Talk about the battle of the long count !!!
Jack Jonson if a boxer is knocked out thru the ropes boxing rules state he has 20 seconds not 10 don’t take my word for it google it benn is up on his feet in 12.5 seconds
Lews Winnie benn fell behind the ropes, he was still in the ring. Watch Bernard Hopkins last fight in which he was knocked out the ring.. that type of knockdown is worth a 20 second count
McClellan pushed the referee 4 times to get at Benn when the ref was breaking things up , McClellan should have got warnings for that but hey it was a war
Rabbit punches is what destroyed this man ben should of be had for manslaughter and that vile ref prichard colon was the same Rabbit punches and he is in same condition as gerald apart at least he can see
@@princedavis4114 I love Nigel Benn and have so much respect for him being so fearless but the amount of rabbit punches and that headbutt is unforgiveable. He should've been DQ'd for all those rabbit punches there were far too many and they're extremely dangerous as seen.
Hi folks. Lets take a trip down memory lane. On the 25th February 1995, Gerald McClellan met a 31 year old Blackman from the U.K called Nigel Benn. It was to be the most punishing fight of McClellans career. His opponent Nigel Benn was not a boxer. He was a notorious bar room brawler who intially took up boxing as a way of managing his anger. Coupled with his anger issues, Benn had a reputation for being one of the dirtiest fighters. After much hype, the fight got underway and McClellans came out in his usual explosive style. After knocking down Benn in the first round, Benn somehow got back up and proceeded to trade blows with McClellan. Benn was not in the same class as McClellan, but somehow he miraculously stayed toe to toe with McClellan during that fateful night punching McClellan throughout the following rounds. Benns punching delivery was sloppy and his footwork dodging was shabby. But his punches miraculously still connected! In contrast Gerald was fast, super co-ordinated and classy. Both men traded good punches complete with their contrasting styles. Benn employed his trademark dirty tactics by rabbit punching McClellan in the back of the head in every round as the tv footage clearly shows. Sometime during the round 9, McClellan sustained a serious brain injury from Benns punches and he started blinking heavily as he was in pain. His gum shield started hanging out and he started breathing erratic as if he was struggling to get enough oxygen. He movements slowed and he started backing off but he kept his guard up at all times. The round ended but McClellan was visibly hurt. During that round McClellans punches had suddenly become sloppy and apart from the exception of the odd punch, they were just not connecting. A bloodclot had formed in McClellans brain from the gruelling punches he had received. Both men were very tired but Benn, despite his sloppy style, was now getting the upperhand as McClellan was clearly injured. During round 9 Benn can be seen missing a punch but the sheer force of his punch made him fall forward and he headbutted McClellan who tried get out if the way - but McClellan was unsuccessful. Boxing experts have analysed the video footage and have stated that this accidental headbutt made things worse for McClellan added to the fact that his condition was already getting worse due to the brain injury he sustained sometime during round 9. McClellans punches clearly confirmed in the ringside video footage had become sloppy and his movements had become slow. His gum shield was hanging out and he can be seen blinking as if he was in pain. His breathing was erratic as if he was struggling for oxygen. He nevertheless continued. In round 10 Benn came out and after the two men were trying to punch eachother Benn caught Gerald with two punches. The first punch made McClellan go down on one knee but he got back up. The second punch 20 seconds later made McClellan go down on one knee again and the referee stepped in because McClellan made no effort to get back up. McClellan remained down on one knee and the referee began counting down. To everyones shock, McClellan allowed himself to be counted out. The fight was over and McClellan staggered back to his corner and sat down on his stool. IT WAS A FATEFUL NIGHT AS WITHIN 2 MINUTES MCCLELLAN FELL INTO A COMA WHILST STILL IN THE RING FROM A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. HE HAD ACTUALLY FALLEN OFF HIS STOOL. So there you have it folks. Gerald was the boxer - Benn was the brawler. But Benn possessed the volcano heart of a lion - and somehow he miraculously managed to pull of one of the biggest upsets in boxing history!
If you read all of this you just read a load of nonsense with very little fact. Gerald didnt have a stool he slumped to the apron and that's where he stayed, gerald started to spit his shield as early as round 2
I watched this about ten years ago and the last line of the interview has stuck with me, 'pitbulls remind me of myself, just a real aggressive dog'. Said it in such a genuine and natural manner - come from the soul.
I was also a big fan of Gerald McClellan (in the ring), but what he used to do was tie labrador dogs four legs up with duct tape defenceless and set his pitbulls on to them so 'they could taste some blood' which was bang out of order.
Yeah, he was real deal in the ring. And outside the ring too, it seems to me. It's pretty unusual to see how polite he is, cause most of boxers don't behave like this at all. Many of boxers looks like marginals and dumpass or something, but Gerald acting like true gentleman and also just a smart guy
Gerald McClellan was another fool of Don King. He was a member of Kronk gym, trained and managed by Steward, sparred with Hearns, up until the Benn fight when McClellen decided to fire Emanuel Steward and hire one of Kings boxing hustlers Stan Johnson who fought as a light hvywt. His career record was 40--4. FORTY LOSSES, FOUR WINS. After McClellen he managed a stable of fighters with the worst records of any pro fighters in the country. Every one he guided to a losing record. King played McClellan $250000 for a fight with 14000 paid attendence, 17 million paid TV viewers
Somewhere I heard an interview that Gerald was having blinking episodes from just a jab in some training sessions before the jackson fights, then the hard hits from julian. I think in the interview after the first jackson fight Gerald said he had a terrible headache.... he clearly had some issues going on already
During the remainder of this interview, Gary Newborn explains to Gerald he’s rated as number two in the world pound for pound. May I ask who’s number one?
I went to this fight with Benn don king if I remember called Gerald mini Mike Tyson at time of fight to this day I've always said when fighter gumsheild virtually hanging out mouth something wrong upstairs in head trying to take air in never been at fight since then. Used go Benn fights EUBANK and Steve Collins
For everybody saying he killed dogs, yes it’s true he did kill dawgs and it was fucked up. Not enough fucked up however to wish this man to die or be glad what his outcome was. Gerald was an excellent boxer and his current state is an utter tragedy, we all make mistakes in life some of us get to fix them and some of us don’t. Have some respect to the man, the world turned its back on him
@@kelseyfairbrother7247 no one deserves that, you are a maniac if you think so, this sort of thing proves that dog lovers are fanatics and tree huggers. Benn was a worse man that McClellan without a doubt.
Look at his body going into this fight he didn’t look in good condition and barr the first few rounds he didn’t look sharp and he’got rid of manny steward .
Sean Turner maybe before the fight he was been blinking even in training. also that mouthpiece was loose Al the time . gman won by TKO in the first round. the ref step in while Gerald was hitting a semiunconsius Benn that is call TKO
@@EXPOSEDBYGABRIELPEREZ Gman did not win on a first round tko. Benn made it back in in time and came back, that was Gerald's fault he could not finish him.
It's hard to say, Ben was lighting him up with hard punches from the second round onwards do it could've been at any point from the second to the tenth round.
My fights never go past 8 rounds that was the wrong thing to say at the wrong time he jumped up the weight devisions to quickly he went from light middle to middle to super middle knocking every one out in the process and he never gave his body time to adjust to the new weight I think this was a factor as well as his injury in the ring it was a tragedy what happened to him he was a killer in the ring and he wasn't a very nice man outside the ring with the dog fighting ect but take nothing away from him he is probably one of the most devastating knockout artists ever
i'm sure that all boxers try to reach the back of head are crazy and dirty and they cause serious injury, they say a lot of different things but this what happen to all boxers in this situation, gerald was winning easily he went in killing spirit and his face look like skull when he was fighting he didn't try to reach the back of other boxer head
The dog-fighting thing never happened. It was all just hearsay. Stupid stories made up by his trainers to try and sound badass These stupid stories need to stop now
A lot of fighters say things to come across as 'tough'. Did you see his pitbulls? They were english staffies. The articles all over the internet say that he took his two 'savage fighting dogs' everywhere together. If they were fighting dogs he wouldn't have them together on a leash just chilling with him everywhere he went. Use your brain a bit.
Nah...nahhhhh NOT SO WHAT. NO....I don't hunt for shit. If you excuse that behavior then f you. If he actually did that, I HAVE ZERO SYMPATHY FOR THE ASSHOLE. and as a matter of fact, I hope he suffered.....if he did that.
@@adenmartinez434 if you meat then you're no better than he is, have ever seen a slaughter house or how cows and chickens are treated?? so stfu and stop judging
People trying to say gerrald had mental issues before the fight with benn, didnt seem to have a problem here.. He just could'nt keep up with Benns stamina and durability
Gerald McClellan any other way to donate ?? I'm not on twitter, but I'd like to give what little I can, I'm on welfare, but even a steak, or a tshirt, I'd love to give what I can ! Thank you
The human race we hate people who have a different skin tone to ourselves but when it comes to animals & there feelings we get upset except when it comes to eating them or using then for shelter or decorations
If this is an official channel that he will benefit from lets get his subscriber numbers up! I've heard they are raising money for a stem cell treatment for him!
this man was involved in dog fighting , he was a nasty piece of work and also said he wanted to put benn and benns dad in a wheelchair , lol carma bit him in the arse .
