"Candidly, Richardson, as I imagine you foraging for berries and grubs, and flicking at insects with your sticky tongue, I feel a certain dismay."

Poor Richardson, he's treated so bad by Farmum.

props to both gerald and rich for meantioning and recognizing the criminally underrated powers boothe. that guy chewed up milch's dialogue and spit it like venom at the camera. his cy tolliver was truly scary, especially when his pride was wounded.

I don't know that I really realized it until Gerald mentioned it, but your comment crystallized it -- Boothe was absolutely incredible in his role. I wish we'd had an opportunity to learn more of Tolliver's backstory.

There were so many well written great characters portrayed by phenomenal actors, Powers Boothe gets accidentally criminally underrated as Tolliver

The monologue that Doc gives to god during the final episode of season one should be taught in every acting class.

Personally I'd say Steve the drunks scene with Hostetler should be taught. But opinions vary

The instant I saw "Shakespearean greatness" I KNEW it was 'Deadwood.' David Milch invented a whole new poetic language for that series.

McRaney in Deadwood portrayed one of the most venally brutal villains in TV or cinema. An astoundingly good performance.

I loved that show. I'm watching it again with someone who's never seen it. I love the dialectical fabric created by the writing that really knits the narrative... Exquisite.

Gerald McRaney absolutely killed the role in Deadwood. You really hated George Hearst, but you had to respect his intelligence and his influence.

Deadwood was a great series and he was a great character in it, he played the villain perfectly, just as he did more recently in Longmire.

His portrayal of Hearst was so perfect...You HATED Hearst in the show but, you had to respect how amazing a character he was...When Alma tried to make a move on Hearst for her silver mine...THAT was such a brutal scene!

The dialogue in Deadwood was some of the best I’ve ever heard. You had to listen closely to understand what was being said. Al Swearenden’s lines were Shakespearian.

I grew up watching him in Simon and Simon and knew him to be Delta Burke's husband. I didn't expect much of him in this role. I was totally proven wrong. He was incredible in this role. Now anytime I see his name in a cast, my interest is peaked.

What a line of great roles Gerald played in some of the greatest series of the last 20 years- Deadwood, of course, but there's also Justified and Longmire. Does a great job at playing morally bankrupt, power-hungry men...

And yet, by ALL accounts, Hearst was a good man. He was wonderful to his employees. The Deadwood portrayal was pure fiction....which speaks to the brilliance of Milch.

McRainey had a scene with Molly Parker where he comes close to her and speaks softly, letting her know he is her enemy. None of his words are openly violent or even sexual, but you get the distinct impression that you're witnessing a rape. Chilling in the extreme.
