As a Scottish person who hears and uses this vocabulary on a daily basis, it’s surprising how many people are interested in Scottish lmao.

I love how he just laughs and enjoys it. Instead of being a teacher.

My Mum and Dad went to Scotland years ago, and while walking through a small village Mum asked an elderly gentleman walking his two Scottish terriers (in a rather broad Aussie accent I might add) for directions to the post office. He stared at her for a moment then said “Aye, sorry lass, aye cannae unnerstan a whirr yae seeyin”. Somewhat flustered Mum said “oh, oh, I see, thank you.” And they both went their separate ways scratching their heads in puzzlement. The thing that amazes me is that technically, they were both speaking the same language yet neither understood a word! 😂

Why scotish words sound like you are drunk all the time

Scottish ppl are genuinely some of the friendliest, funniest bunch i've ever met. Knew how to have fun, take life easy, hold their liquor, and to make fun of themselves. Had such fond memories travelling across the country, such beautiful lochs and glens and absolutely crackin people who're always willing to help you ❤️ if you ever have the chance pls come and visit, it'll stay in your heart forever!

Scottish accents are all about the voice and intonation. They had this distinguish sound that made the accents sound so bravery and barbarian.

It's really fun to listen to (not in a bad way), I think Scots talk with a lot of energy and their accent is beautiful

A friend of mine had Scottish parents. They visited my wife and daughter after my daughter was born at Naval Submarine Base, Groton. Her dad said "Aye, she's a wee bonnie lass." Makes me smile to this day and my daughter is 40.

Everytime I watch this I still laugh when he says 'jobby', as a Scotwoman it's probably the thing I'm most proud of to come out of Scottish slang.

I was in Scotland in '90. Spoke with a man there, couldn't understand a thing he said. There was a Welshman present. He laughed and said he could understand either.

Spent a few months in Glasgow in my early 20's, took me almost that long to figure out what they were saying lol. I used to think it was odd being called "Hen" by total strangers, but I miss it now. Is very endearing.

I met Gerard Butler in 2005 outside of NBC Studios during a short meet and greet and asked for a picture with him, and he autographed my Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. He was so kind and genuine. I'll never forget that day!

This makes me super happy to watch because you know that Gerard Butler has had to suppress himself to fit in among American and Hollywood culture. Watching him say all these pure Scot words must be bringing back so much nostalgia for him.

Keep in mind Scotland is a country so some of these slang words are more associated with different parts of the country - as there are different Scottish accents.

My first introduction to Scottish slang ( sort of ), was a book by Terry Pratchett called the Wee Free Men. Had it not been for the " dictionary "in the back, I would have been so lost. Great book. Ahhh the Scottish accent, music to my ears.

As an American, some of these make complete and total sense. "Rank" can be used exactly the same way here, it's just uncommon, and "wee bit" I think most people would know just means "a little". Or "bevvy" as short for "beverage". Even something like "gaun yersel'"; I'd probably be very confused in the moment, but it is just saying "go on yourself" with a Scottish accent, which is a bit like "go on with your bad self" -- a phrase many Americans would get -- so it makes sense. But "gettin' the messages" -- that one cracked me up🤣 I loved the explanation too. And I'd never have guessed "jobby" in a million years.
