The Gerber Freescape is a folding bow saw that weighs just under a pound and folds up to fit in almost any backpack, bug out bag or get home bag. And, unlike some other saws, there are no loose parts to keep up with. Just unfold it, hook the free end of the blade and lock the handle.

I also have the Boreal 21 and I am quite pleased with it. This Gerber is cool to be sure. and the adjustability is a nice add ....but I feel the price is out of line given that the full sized 21" Boreal is about $60. Also, I've recently been using the 10" folding Corona saw (sub$25) , with good technique it will provide access to much larger wood, and man does it cut! The Boreal lives in my rig and both of our ATVs get the Corona saw. HOWEVER....if Gerber were to adapt this for the hacksaw blade as Bryan suggests and also include a stainless meat saw blade they would really have a nice tool for the big game hunter. If you have an 800 lb elk down and cant get a machine to it a butchering blade is super handy.

Silky saws cut faster and bigger material, but that gerber is more rugged. When I use that gerber it wears me out lol but its solid and little to no chance of breaking it, a silky blade is easily broken but its still my favorite lol.
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 3 года назад
I need to try one of those giant Silky saws. But the biomechanics of a bow saw are definitely better.
@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 3 года назад
@@SurvivalOnPurpose no doubt about that lol, the big boy 2000 flat puts some wood down lol but when you do try them take it real slow at first until you get the action down because if it catches and the blade bends to much it will snap. I've never broken a silky blade but lots of people have, if you do get that saw you will never look back I guarantee hahaha

I wish you would have showed how you disconnect the blade at the front. Hopefully they will make a bigger version. It looked like you couldn’t get any long strokes with it, just 3-4 inch strokes. Keep up the great work!
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 3 года назад
It's just a screw. The screw is wide enough that you caoulsd use a dime (or the hacksaw blade) to unscrew it. As for the stroke length, I was working pretty fast to see how well it cuts but you can get at least 9"-10" at first and, of course, that diminishes as you get deeper into a larger log.

is always easier than axe bucking. Slikys are great but always make sawing an authentic event. Makes you try to cut faster. But bowsaws give you kind a zen like rhythm I like very much. Great job, Bryan.

That saw does look nice and I would buy one if I didn't already have a folding saw which I don't use most of the time. I grew up using a buck saw and my grandfather was the one who first showed me how and we cut wood for both their heater and cook stove. Since those days I didn't need one until I retired from the military and got into camping.

So this saw can cut a 6 inch log. I think I'm gonna grab one for My pack. Exactly what I have been looking for. I wish they made it in a earth tone or olive green drab. That's one of the problems I have been running into with today's gear. I don't want high vis . I guess I'll have to Rattle can it.....
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 3 года назад
To be clear. It does not have 6” clearance. As I said in the video, the space between then frame and the blade tapers from about 4-1/4” to 2-1/2” or so.
@kingsoutdoors4379
@kingsoutdoors4379 3 года назад
@@SurvivalOnPurpose umm yes, so that would mean it could cut that deep through a log, whick means You could roll it over and cut that much on the other side meaning it will most likely cut a 6 inch log or bigger no problem .

Why jump right to " Gerber Stole This!!! ". Have you guys never heard of licensing agreements. Lots of patent holders never ever produce anything but the design and then they sell licenses to other businesses who think they can make some dough producing and selling the thing. When HP sells a PC that type of computer is using a IBM patent and if it's running Windows, HP paid for a license to put it in there. Did you accuse them of stealing from Microsoft. As Slow Joe would say, " Come on, man" Patents protect unique ideas and inventions. If it isn't different enough from what's already out there it doesn't get a patent. Just in the folding saw space we've had Bahco and Silky for years. Who stole from who? Think maybe there are subtle things like tooth shape or tempering processes or latching mechanism that sets one apart from the other enough to have THAT detail patented. Sometimes one little tiny detail is what earns the patent and as long as you aren't using that in your "copy" you haven't stolen anything. Unfortunate that we live in a world where anyone can accuse anyone of anything anonymously and with no evidence. Now on a lighter note.... Bryan, you're a plumber! How come you didn't demonstrate the plumber's vise trick when you were trying to hold onto that log for the second cut? I watched another reviewer test the sub-box that this saw came in and as much as you were ecstatic with all the contents, he was equally unimpressed with all of it, including that great little saw. You call yourself a doofus, you need to get a load of this guy! LOL You couldn't even carry the water bucket for his team. About that hacksaw blade, any chance that you might try that mod and show us how it turns out? Maybe see if it will stow away in the frame alongside the wood blade? It would be a great addition to the kit, but if you actually need a hole as big as the one in the wood blade to get it onto the frame, it doesn't seem to leave much material around the hole. I was hoping that that hole is so big because the blade is used on a wide variety of saws and maybe a smaller hole would work in the hacksaw blade. Also. I couldn't tell how the other end of the blade attaches to the frame. Great job, again.
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 3 года назад
That "Plumber's vise" doesn't work too well when you are working with a long branch with other branches connected to it.

WOW, Gerber just plain RIPPED off the Boreal21 Design. cant believe you Promoted a Theft of another company's design.
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 3 года назад
Hmmm. Did Gerber do something illegal or unethical? I had never even heard of the Boreal saw until I read some of these comments. So I did a little research. First, AGAWA has a patent on the design of the Boreal Saw. So if Gerber did just copy that saw it would be a clear case of patent infringement. And I seriously doubt the attorneys I’m sure the army of lawyers a big company like Gerber has would have let that get by. As far as I can tell the difference did in the way the assembly is completed and the frame locked in place. This design is different in the 2 saws. So I guess This difference was significant enough to avoid any patent issues. Or maybe it is being disputed. I don’t know. What I do know is patent law is complicated and I’m not an attorney. Nor do I (or probably you either) know the details behind this story. I am going to reach out to the folks at AGAWA and see what I can find out.
