There's value in opening every component when making a review. As a Central/Eastern European, I was pretty curious to see the MRE spin on rye bread. Otherwise, nice review, one of the better ones I've found.

Thanks! I'll have to consider opening it for a RU-vid short or something.

Nicely done friend. I only ever lucked into one of these, and it was awesome!! I never liked rye bread, until I ate the German ration. I love it now. The components, snacks, mains, and all meals looked awesome. Very few casualties in this ration. I am glad you had A good time, and enjoyed most. Peace, John.

Thanks, John! Maybe I'll have to give the rye bread another shot sometime.

Another great review. I was amazed you risked life and limb eating the expired pate and tuna 😂 Thank you for your thorough and friendly reviews. I always enjoy them!

Thanks for the kind words! I don't think there was much risk with the food, it wasn't that old.

The reason why you couldn't taste any kidney (or any other offal) in the paté, was because it wasn't a paté at all. It was beef-and-ham sausage, with 66 % Rindfleisch (beef). Therefore, you described it correctly when you called it a sausage. The gelatinized parts on the side are in there by default - it is the meat broth that emits during the cooking process, and it gelatinizes by itself. In Germany, many people love this stuff, we even have whole sausages made of it, speckled with ham, or chicken pieces and pickles. It is called "Sülze" or "Sulz". The word Roggenschrotbrot was almost correct the way you said it, it's just that you'd pronounce all the O's similar to the O in "Bro", or "though" The word "Fleisch" sounds like if you'd add a "SH" to the word "fly". And the word "Rind" (Cattle) is pretty easy, too. It is said as if you'd say "Ring", just with a sharp "D" in the end, instead of the "G". I hope this helped a bit with the German...I know, it is a strange way to do so, but always explain pronounciations like that, because for me, it is easier to grab it that way. Edit: Geflügeljagdwurst does not contain tuna. I am watching this on a smartphone, so I couldn't read the ingredients list, but tuna is surely non of them. Jagdwurst is indeed a "hunter's sausage", and is mostly made out of pork, beef, or, in this case, poultry. It stands for a sausage with rather finely ground sausage meat, speckled with pieces of ham, or chicken. It is typically spiced with ginger, mace, pepper and coriander. Regionally, mustard seeds or pistachio pieces are added. The term "Bockwurst" is coming from the "Bockbier" it was traditionally created to accompany. (Bockbier is a very strong, bitter sweet beer with lots of roasted malt in it.) Bockwurst is made of a mix of veal and beef. We also call it a "Knackwurst" , which roughly translates to "crack sausage", because they do make a very significant sound if you bite into it. (Given you got a whole one - not a "Currywurst"!)

The high proportion of cocoa in chocolate is so high for certain reasons. It suppresses the desire for something sweet and especially dark chocolate, which has a high proportion of cocoa, can improve diarrhea.

We have pate' here. In the US it is sometimes called " potted meat". We have chicken, pork and beef. Plus liver pate.

Interesting! I have heard of potted meat, but never put two and two together. I'll have to try it some time. I'd imagine the US has a bit of a different take on it.

Thanks for all the comments, very interesting stuff! That definitely makes sense, I can see beef jerky being an American thing. I haven't really seen it anywhere else.

Es ist eine 48h Ration.
@InternationalRations
@InternationalRations 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment! However, I don't think it's a 48 hour ration as it has 3 meals. And doesn't say 48 hour ration anywhere. Can you share why you think it's for 48 hours?

@@InternationalRations Ich war 1985 bei der Deutschen Luftwaffe und die Rationen mussten 2 Tage im Feld reichen. Die Rationen wurden aber auch gerne getauscht ,mit amerikanischen Rationen.

Very Interesting! Thanks for commenting! I would assume the reason they were marketed for 24 hours and they were to be used in the Luftwaffe for 48 hours is that you would have to stretch your resources if you were shot down. But in the Bundeswehr they were used for 24 hours, just a guess on my part. Either way, very interesting! Thanks a lot for commenting! Von Google übersetzt, hoffentlich ist es richtig. Sehr interessant!
