Nein.
@@HayleyAlexis I think it is a matter of different mindsets - The American mindset is individualistic (in a positive way) - the German mindset is more like, for the common good If you are still here in 20 years, you will keep your Florida mindset - which is how it should be. Or you will adjust to each culture individually - there are so many different cultures in Germany. Your life mate/boyfriend is absolutely RIGHT, when he states that making a comment like "I like your dress" means you are hitting on someone in GERMANY. In California, for example, women like that. But that also has something to do with the fact that (we) Americans are in to small talk. Many Germans, probably male, think small talk is a waste of time. I would beg to differ.
He is definitely right with the louder part haha. I know plenty of Americans who constantly say they aren't loud, but it's just because most of you guys don't notice it as you're used to speaking like that :)
Actually, Dana (Wanted Adventure) noticed that, too. I don't know many US americans in person though. The only one I met was in general pretty shy and therefore probably not so loud. :)
Haha yes German girls never get jealous. I find it so weird. I was with my friend once and a guy friend who was there was openly flirting with her (he was Italian) in front of his german girlfriend. And the german girl was so unbothered lol. What level of confidence is that haha 😂
Well I am german and I become jealous too. I just don't make a scene but instead talk to my boyfriend when we are alone about how I felt in that particular situation
Oh wow!!! I’m half German and half Spanish. I know nothing of my German culture (my father passed away when I was young), anyway I never really identified with my Spanish side. I always felt and thought differently. I’m a punctual perfectionist since birth and I’m NOT a jealous person whatsoever. One time my significant other and I went to a restaurant. He proceeded to get a table as I went to the restroom. Upon my return the waitress had her back to me , she was facing him and flirting. I didn’t say a word. When she turned and noticed I had been sitting there, I just asked, “what’s good on the menu?” My honey later asked if I was jealous. I said, “not at all, look at me!! If you leave me for her, you’re the fool.” He agreed. But on a serious note, I’ve never been jealous.
Dinah- lmao that sketchy waitress was making sure she got that tip!

Yes, that's something I really love. I'm not a jealous person, so when someone comes up with a jealous reaction I'm always like "WTF? Where that came from?". Also, I think Germans don't like to put their personal affairs on display, in front of others. When they have a problem or don't like something, they won't say it right there and then, they'll wait until they can comment it in a private space.
I think part of it is the language barrier, because lots of things in English have more than one meaning. For example: When my friend says or does something crazy or stupid, I will say "omg, I can't believe you!" and he always says "Why would I lie?" and gets offended lol I always have to tell him that I'm not saying he's lying, I don't mean it that way. Great video, btw!
from my experiences with interntational relationships, i gotta say, during intense conversations or arguments, each person should be able to speak their dominant language. not being able to express yourself as clearly as you want can severely limit your communication skills. good to see ur both comfortable with each other's dominant language
Hey daniel. NExt time I will try to put subtitles. I totally forgot and was in a hurry. If someone is nice enough they can do the subtitles for me actually 😂
This made my life! haha I can relate to this so much. I am American from LA and married to an Austrian. I am now going through the process to live in Linz. I'm Latina and sassy so what he said about American women my husband had said haha. I'm not there yet to argue in German but I will be soon. Thanks for making these videos they really just make me laugh and smile.
Hi dear! Let me know if you'd want to share your story- I curate a blog called Questa Dolce Vita where I feature international couples: www.questadolcevita.com/blog/category/love-stories and I'm always on the hunt for more...! :)
You two are soooo cute together, it makes me smile just watching. My mother is German and my father African American (Irish, Portuguese, black), husband Irish american so I get your vibe. I did my DNA on Ancestry and it was like 17 countries (very mixed), nice to see a face that looks like mine in Germany and enjoying life. Thanks for the great video :)
I enjoyed every moment of this video! You 2 are so cute. My fiance lives in Germany and I will be moving next year to be with him--I'm from GA, USA--btw :) . Seeing you 2 reminds me of us--like the cultural differences, but the differences adds to the fun and learning aspect of the relationship!! You're making me feel even more excited about my move!!
OHHHHHHH Congrats little lady! At least we have a little bit in common since you are coming from the same "area" as me. I mean we argue and sometimes we have A LOT OF MISUNDERSTANDINGS but it adds a lot of fun to the relationship :D
Bei Zeitmarke 4:42 sagst du "My mouth is faster than my brain". Das entspricht einem Buchtitel "Woher soll ich wissen, was ich denke, bevor ich höre, was ich sage?"
Fortunately I am bilingual English/German....that is the only way to enjoy this. As a gay man I have to mention that Mike is totally hot, I'm not gonna lie.
man i cant imagine anyone not understanding english and german watching this Video, the Denglish is funny but must be confussing for people not speaking german ;D
I sometimes feel bad for the people who solely speak English because I know I just say a bunch of random stuff but hopefully with the context I use around the words they get what I’m trying to say
i feel like most things you're pointing out is just general boys/girls stuff that people figure out in relationships about each other. i wouldn't generalize that or break it down to a nationality.
This was a very fun video! A few reactions: - The German girls I've known were, for the most part, deeply sensitive, even emotionally turbulent; however, they kept those emotions bottled up. They were not very expressive, so their moods were difficult to untangle. Rarely did they ever come across as kind. - For example, they were frequently very easily offended, tending to interpret every comment as an insult. They feel deeply, but are disinclined to discuss why they are upset and don't show many emotions besides being quietly pissed off. :-) They tended to think I was very insensitive to their feelings, which surprised me, because American women universally think of me overly sensitive. I think this was mostly to do with the language gap. - The German men I knew were generally very poor dressers, baggy clashing shirts and trousers, black socks with sandles, that sort of thing. None have worn those dumb-looking baggy athletic shorts so many American men wear, so they are more formal than in the US: Yet they didn't have any sense of style. I need to be careful here, because according to my wife, neither do I. :-)
And the mixing of languages ist very unterhaltend also :-)
LOL!! You guys are so cute! I can imagine the clash/issues between "level-headed", rather "unemotional", rational, perhaps "cold" seeming German guys and temperamental, wearing their heart on their sleave American girls. Or indeed the other way around.
The "oh no" thing is just a language/expression difference. And yes, Americans are loud! Same goes for Africans! Yes Tinder in Germany is more like a normal dating app than a hook-up one, as it is in the US or UK.
You were so different back then - 5 years are a lot of years. Wasn't even aware that these kind of videos existed in 2017. Maybe you started this whole movement, Hayley 😃
As a girl who has lived both in Iceland (interestingly it has some simularities to America) and Germany, I can definetly say that you are absolutetly right about Germany Hayley. Especially about the girls eating up their jealousy feelings about their boyfriends (I see it all the time haha) I love hearing your opinion on my country it is really funny and I can relate :D
The thing about dating beyond a language barrier is that one has to be able to speak a language really reeeally well in order to understand the subtext. Those little subtle messages that aren't actually spoken out loud. Relationships and romance, that's all about subtext!
I am half Swedish and half Spanish and i live in Germany. German men lack passion, many of them are very strict, little sense of humor and very little jealousy towards their girlfriends. But i agree with your boyfriend in one point and that's the fact that German girls like to pay for themselves. American girls/women and women from the southern regions like Spain, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Greece etc. prefer a man who takes care of everything like paying the food, the drinks, the bills etc. German girls are more indipendent, they don't like it when you pay for their stuff
hi hayley..i live in garmisch partenkirchen next to you..your video's are awesome..so true about germans..i am iranian live with my husband work at university and study here.germans are such good pure people and we feel so close to americans deary
You two are absolutely hilarious together! And your german has become really really good, Hayley. I think it's kinda brave of Mike to appear in your videos with such bad endlish... ;)
