Here in southern USA our driving test it just drive around the block, know what a stop sign is, and know how to use a blinker. 5 minutes then you're legally allowed to drive , it frightens me, and also shows me why we have such bad drivers over here
As a southerner who got their license at first in Mississippi I totally agree with this. I also got my motorcycle license in MIssissippi as well. They literally made me do less on my motorcycle driving test than my normal driving test. Pretty scary lmao.
In Canada it’s easy. But for me I keep messing up the driving test. I have to be precise with my procedures. I failed instantly for looking both ways fast instead of 3 seconds. I have an enhanced license but don’t use it
Tbh driving in US itself is much easier, more space for cars, abundance of 4 way stop signs, automatic transmission. Pedestrians will almost always used designated crossings. You can keep going straight unless a sign tells you to stop. Also I would argue that Driving in US is neither a right nor a privilege but a necessity as public transport is lackluster Thus it makes more sense to put an overkill amount of road signs and popularize auto-transmission to help noobs drive safe rather than make the test tougher.
This video is perfect. It helps me clearly understand what I should and shouldn't do while driving. Thank God I discovered this video. Thank you Mr. Moll. Great job. ^_^ Your English is good by the way. I hope there are more videos like this. Thumbs up !
The driving test itself is quite chanllenging and over that for a outsider who speaks average German is a nightmare,so goes without saying awesome work and thank you for putting up this videos. this is very very helpful.
Not sure how this video came up in front of me. Mr.Moll you have explained very well. excellent video. I drive a lot in Germany but thought "Verkehrsberuhigte..." means drive at 20 instead of normal 30. Your English is very good. Important, for us limited-German speakers it is very helpful.
Ah well… memories… My exam was 32 years ago. I remember approaching an intersection. I had all time in the world to cross but decided to let the other car pass. It took like ages. The examiner later referred to that as my „minute´s silence“.
Thank you for making this video! Can you please do more of these in English?? I have to learn to drive in Germany and I'm super nervous especially since in my home country we drive on the left side of the road. 🙈😭
Gerd you are a good Instructor and very funny 😄😂 how I wished my instructor was like you. She’s always shouting in German and I don’t understand her, that makes me so stressed. And your English is very good and understanding. Please could you upload more videos in English? Could be very helpful for us ❤
Thank you for this video. I watched it a few times before taking my driving test. Cleared my driving test in the first attempt (and got my license) yesterday :)
For an English speaking person with B2 level German, this video is a good break from all the videos auf Deutsch. I picked a few points too here and there 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
There's a hierarchy of rules in Germany. If there are no signs, it's right before left, if there are signs you have to follow them and if there are signs and lights, the lights are superordinate
and if there's a police officer (or someone comparable) controlling a traffic light crossing with hand signs, you have to obey their hand signs, even if the traffic lights say something else.
What a sweet driving instructor.. Thanks for that video.. Was very enlightening and helpful.. So two thumbs up.. I have already driven in Germany however it was a harrowing experience for me as I am used to driving in India where absolutely no rules apply (except don't bang another person everrrrr... or else no rules apply when the angry flash mob is beating your ass).. The driving in Mumbai is chaotic but somehow seems to work.. Nevertheless the driving in Germany scares the pants off me since I have had a few hairy experiences which shattered my confidence.. So I have taken it upon myself to now focus on becoming the best driver ever and will go for lessons in Germany and hopefully will be blessed with an instructor like yours..
One thing you will observe here in Germany is that no driver goes by the actual rules except for when taking the driving test. No one drives till the end before entering the autobahn.
No words!!!aperfect teacher!!I feel pity for the passengers in my Heimat!!n road users. Now I know they don't know "what adriving licence really is" now I know why this exmas more than 200pple perished😢😢.from my helmat. Uuuuuuhhh I salute German Drivers🙊👍👍✌.No words! !totally impressed from Hannover
Such a cool instructor! . Friendly and cooperative. I hope we have such good instructors like you here in Bendorf. Some of the instructors here get angry and upset if you do sth wrong and they even start yelling at you with out any respect. The moment they realize this, they try to tune down their voice and then you kiss your test driving Godbye. Thanks a lot for this video. It is good to know that we have some Tolerant instructors people around. I need to pass this driving test so badly to get a job and start life again. Tomorrow is my third try to pass the practical driving test. Wish me luck!
Hello, I wish you loads and loads of luck. I am kinda in the same situation as you seem to be. I think even for english-speaking foreigners living in germany and trying to make a driving license here is not easy, coz they do everything in german. I also need this DL , to be able to work. Greetings to you!
If you think German drivers look angry when they're driving, you should go anywhere in the USA specially Florida, then you will meet angry, super aggressive drivers! I have been in Germany for 9 years, they are not angry drivers they are people who take driving very seriously because is a big responsibility, as it should be. They do however like to educate others who are not driving as they should. I love the fact they dont carry guns as they do in the USA. ICH LIEBE DEUTSCHLAND!
Here in NYC I see angry drivers mostly when other drivers create dangerous situations. NYC drivers let you in into their lane when they see that you want to turn left. Even in absolute rush hour. Smiling is the key. Driving education in Germany is way more sophisticated and road tests are harder. But Germany is the only country in Western Europe not having introduced the Learners' permit, where you may drive with a supervisor (a driver with a valid license) to get experience. Spain, France, Belgium - they all have it. Even Switzerland. In Germany you may only book lessons with a driving instructor unless you get your driving license.
Cringe. Most American drivers ok and there is nothing wrong with guns. Also if you are an actual American you would know that most Americans don't carry guns with them as that's illegal in most states except the south like texas and Alabama.
@@oussematrabelsi9429 But the big disadventage of liberal gun laws is that the police is way more aggressive in traffic controls etc since they have to approach every car driver as if they have a gun under the seat. Here in Germany and Europe in general the police is pretty relaxed during such situations.
@@immermitderruhe I'm 55 years old. I've been driving since I was 16. You're right. It absolutely does make a difference in how the police officer approaches the car. Many officers are killed at traffic stops. However, I've been a gun owner for more than 30 years and a legal concealed carrier for more than 20 years. I'm an African American male and I've been stopped by police many times because I used to drive too fast. Btw, not one time have I been mistreated, at least to my knowledge. Just being polite and respectful I've avoided getting a ticket several times when I was clearly in the wrong.
Thank you Mr. Moll. You did an amazing job! Really happy to find this video. You are clear in your explanation and very patient as a teacher. I hope we get to see a lot more English videos from you! A big thumbs up!
This video has inspired me for my future career choice, I think :) I speak fluent German, English and Italian, maybe I could become an instructor :D But I'm 18 and got my drivers license 4 days ago, so maybe I should wait a little 😅
I also remember beeing so nervous before the exam. I was sure I would fail, because the last driving lesson was pure chaos. But as soon as I started the engine I was as calm as a cucumber...
Very well done.. thank you so much for recording this video... It shall help many like us who aspire to have a German driving licence to be able to drive in Autobahn and to enjoy driving around in Europe! 👍🏽
Because they have smaller cars and trucks. Also American roads are much wider than german roads. Their highways are basically city roads here in america
Awesome...I could learn a lot of things from this video. My Fahrlehrer, although he speaks english; its very broken and I think you are far better !! Instructions are very clear and the driver who is driving also did a pretty good job. Thanks for uploading this video. Please do more of such videos too in English. Thanks a lot.
20:44 Grundfahrübung parking here in the States would cause more than half of the drivers to fail. The number of people that drive every day, and have been driving for years that can't perform this relatively simple maneuver is shocking.
i think the speeding is much more strict than in canada. There are more STOP signs but less yield signs in Canada. i feel that i will get crazy if i drive at walking speed...
Took my second driving lesson in germany yesterday, never drove before and havent been here long from the uk. Went to a carpark and within minutes the instructor told me its not worth it and to continue out onto the roads right away! A good sign I think but man its scary and to most wouldnt seem much different when you look but believe me when you drive, the rules, ways and roads are so different its unreal but im not thinking about the uk when I do the lessons, im acting solely on my first ever lessons and germany, I think not remembering or thinking about the differences or the uk roads and rules stuff (or where ever you are from if you start lessons here) really helps alot. Next I am going to narrow streets with lots of right before left side roads and other obstacle and rules, gonna be stressy but i look forward to it, thanks for uploading this video and anyone else who uploads similar, im sure they help far more people out than you realise!
@@marymulengawincierz773 Not yet, because of various problems preventing me progressing with lessons and corona, its taken longer than I wanted but im almost there now.
Dear Gerd Moll, thanks for making this video. I am always confused with the 30 zone speed limit. How should I know the 30 zone has ended if I do not see any other shield for speed?
How I wish to find a teacher like you in Lübeck! There are no English speaker instructors in this town. And everybody is so grumpy. Your English is great and you are extremely kind! Congratulations and thanks for the video! 🤗
This video has inspired me for my future career choice, I think :) I speak fluent German, English and Italian, maybe I could become an instructor :D But I'm 18 and got my drivers license 4 days ago, so maybe I should wait a little 😅
the person from TÜV can not speak English and my driving teacher also said those people will not speak Enghlis.this person was laughted at me because i almost didnt understand whats the questions! so funny!
Gerd, you are very entertaining and funny :) Actually i have a sad story to tell, i failed the driving exam twice, because i was too tensed. Next week i ll have my third attempt, so watching your videos take away my nervousness. Thanx for that Best
I watched this video one day before my second attempt to pass the Fahrprüfung and passed on Thursday. None of the "Fahrlehrer" I've met so far spoke English, so please stop complaining about your English. You speak great! Thank you for everything!
Thank you so much for this video! I am from India. I was in Germany last week and had hired a self drive car. I have never driven on the right side of the road before, let alone in Germany! I watched this video many times before I left India. It helped me so much! You have explained the various aspects so well that I got used to driving in Germany in less than 10 minutes and I drove for almost 2200 km over 11 days through cities, towns, villages on Autobahnen, Bundesstraßes and other roads with great ease! Danke schön!!
I really really slow grateful European and Dubai car test it should be hard because rule is rule and I really love this thing when the people will follow traffic rules nothing will happen
I have been staying in DE since 2016. I have developed this kinda phobia of driving here even though I leant and started driving at around 2008, back home in India. This video is the first video I ever watched on driving in DE and it's safe to say that the examiners calm attitude and explanations have relieved me somewhat of my fear of driving here... After seeing this entire video, I would say its the first time that I'm really thinking of getting over this anxiousness of mine. Thank you so much for this knowledgeable and informative video..
nebeneinander (Fahrrad) fahren - to ride in parallel. On a bicycle road ("Fahrradstrasse") cyclists are allowed to ride in parallel. Fahrrad fahren = to ride a bicycle. Motorrad fahren = to ride a motorcycle/motorbike (US/Britisches Englisch). Aber Auto fahren = to drive a car. Grundfahrübungen = mandatory driving manoeuvers. Rückwärts einparken = parallel parking. Wenden in drei Zügen = Three point turn. :-)
Am loving my driving lessons, the thing with me is though I suffer from anxiety but it is not the driving that causes it, it stems from past issues and I had it long before ever driving a car and so anyway one day my driving lesson is perfect and I make not a single mistake, the next I forget and do not notice even the most basic signs, even changing gear and all sorts but it is not the driving, it is because when my anxiety goes up, my focus is all about controlling or trying to control it and everything else comes second to that including knowing what I am even doing. It is so frustrating because when my anxiety is not there, my driving and alertness is good enough to pass an exam although I am only on lesson 9 and so could not take one yet, and I think it is better that I do not as I am still enjoying seeing new signs and new situations as one day a street is completely different in terms of traffic and difficulty than say the next day. Watching these help a lot because my driver instructor cannot speak any English what so ever and so we cannot have talks or discuss any of a lesson which frustrates us both I think and not just me, although I try and speak as much German as I can, it is often not heard or understood lol but more frustrating than this is the clarification to as why something is better or done, than not or vice versa not being given, watching these videos helps give me clarification about some things that happen or I see in my own lessons here that perhaps I did not understand. Enjoyable watch, thank you for uploading, even though it is 8 years ago, this video still helps people today :o) I also like watching them when perhaps I have had a bad lesson or made some mistakes because I realise it is normal and for lesson 9 I am not as far behind as sometimes I allow myself to think, I am realising having bad lessons even later than perhaps previous ones is perfectly ok and normal. Only a couple of areas I really must work on more as I still have a habbit of indicating and then checking my mirrors, especially if not turning at all during the indication, I tend to indicate first and early and then check my mirrors and shoulder check just prior to the turn, the last thing which is often a problem is I feel pressured from drivers behind even when I am at the limit or I am worried about others far to much or what they think about me in a learner car, not sure what it is but it gets better. I will say that the walking speed areas when I first moved to Germany seemed silly to me as it is so slow and some of those areas are not small, they are big housing areas and so driving through them at walking speed can take a very long time, but then I bought a house inside a walking speed area and I love it, it makes perfect sense, my little son can ride his bike in the streets with us and everything feels safe lol Walking speed streets are great :O)
