That's what this subset of Americans with close personal ties to war profits thinks. What do the Dutch think, or the French, or other Americans like Tulsi Gabbard? My understanding is that Germany is an independent nation, and a not a police state, nor hyper-militarised for invasions or oppressions. I believe that Germany should act in the interests of the German public, and that this is likely to be in direct opposition to the commercial warfare industry.

How could you define bullying or interference in another country's domestic affairs and not include the behavior of current U.S administration as an example of that?

It's worse. He's being ignored. And that makes him completely ineffectual. Sure he tweets a lot and gives interviews once in a while to get media attention but that is really the only attention he's getting and that isn't the kind of attention an ambassador needs or wants. He is laughing stock or an annoyance if you want to put it more diplomatic. In either case he is completely useless to promote US interests. He is isolated in Berlin. And it's not just the government. He's isolated in the diplomatic community. Expelling Grenell is actually far from impossible. And he probably should be. He violated the Vienna Convention multiple times. The two cases presented here aren't even his best effort. But he just isn't important enough. And that's a low in its own right. Grenell isn't worth the attention that would be created with declaring him a persona non grata. And who would replace him? Likely just another clown. I heard Jeanine Pirro got iced at Fox. And the saddest part about that is, that this isn't even a ridiculous joke. She would NOT get through the Senate. But appointed? Absolutely. All it takes is Fox & Friends or Hannity floating this and she's on his shortlist within the hour.

I don't like this at all. And I'm American but also a socialist. Look, I despise Trump more than most but I hope the people in order in the German government realize this relationship is about more than individuals in charge. And, to be blunt, the US has done a lot for Germany over many fronts for decades. So I'm not really that impressed with this. yes, we have some clowns in charge now and i'm not proud of it. But Germany isn't really in a position to be critical -- and no I'm not talking about old wars but more recent stuff where, for example, Germany just buried Greece. Don't get too haughty. and as for the US troop commitments in Germany, I think we should eliminate that and see how things go for you. because we do pay for it and it ain't cheap.

Actually the US embassador in Deutschland does not really behave as an ambassador. He appears as an US viceking who tries to order a vasall state. That way he looses the influence the US has in Deutschland. He does not act very professional to be honest. What about that gas pipeline thing? There is already one for decades and oil as well. The EU has not enough own resources and has to diversify. Gas comes from the north sea from algeria, Libya, in future from the caspian sea via turkey and as LNG per ship. So what? Does germany or the EU interfere in the US by saying "We think the keystone pipeline is undermining the US souveranity and not good for our fellow Nato partner. any company that is working there will be sanctioned by the EU"? Sounds ridiculous, eh?

I'm confused... If you join a club (in this case NATO) that requires a fee (in this case at least 2% of GDP) to be a member, and you don't pay your membership fee, how is it the other guy's fault for trying to enforce that? Especially when the guy has been covering your share? The rules of membership were stipulated up front. You either abide by them or don't join the club. If you don't want to pay that's ok. Just don't be part of a club that requires you do. Seems pretty straight forward to me. I think it's called having your cake and eating it, too.

Germany should do it! Expelling Gresnell would dramatically raise Germany's stature that it is a proud, sovereign, independent country unwilling to let anyone - even an "ally" (that's increasingly not true) - dictate to Germany what Germany should do. It's not just military spending. There is the Gulfstream II project, where Germany is legitimately pursuing its national interests in buying natural gas from Russia. There is Iran, where the US is using blackmail to coerce countries with whom they can or cannot trade with. There is, of course, blackmail about Germany possibly buying Chinese telecommunications equipment. The laundry list goes on. Which independent sovereign country in the world could POSSIBLY allow another one to tell it who it can trade with and what it can buy on the world stage? If Germany allowed all this, it would be reduced to nothing but a vassal / puppet state of the US. Germany should stiffen its resolve and expell the unacceptable US "ambassador"! This would earn Germany great respect around the world.
