She looks to be a great dog. My two dogs love the water and the boat. They are family members and I love taking them everywhere.

This is great to see. Dogs make life so much better and glad you both have your own mate. My dog wakes me up early every morning begging to go to the beach. Rain, snow, gale winds, doesn't matter she needs her frisbee time at the beach. Now if i can just get her to love the water as much as Kona.

Dogs love boats! I wish I had some photos of my dogs in our boat. We spent many hours together hunting ducks and fishing in our jon boat.

As an owner of three Czech-born DDR shepherds through my lifetime, I can tell you that this dog WILL be your companion for life. Beware of some common problems with GSD's. Hip dysplasia is real, your dog will be quite active so that is a great thing. Don't let her get too heavy (won't be a problem in FL heat and being an active dog). Also, this dog will become increasingly protective of you both as you grow in your relationship and time goes on. My wife was confronted by a black bear and cubs here in Western NC on a walk one time with our infant daughter. Zelda (our dog) got half-way between this roaring (I kid you not) bear, and kept in that position, losing her mind until the bear left. I know that Zelda would have died for my wife and daughter... So happy for you both!

Beautiful and highly intelligent dogs. I owned a gsd that was out of a Venezuelan bloodline. Big dog (125 pounds)and very protective. Obedience classes will bring out the best in Kona. Working dogs need work and thrive on it and bond to those who train them.

What a beautiful dog! A friend of mine, a solo sailor has one just like that. He though her to remove the dead flying fish from the deck. So every morning doggie goes on deck to find and remove stray dead marine live, so she earns her breakfast.

My first dog was a GSD. I adopted him from a shelter in LA for $75. He was a leadership challenge for sure, but he turned into a great dog once I got my stuff together and learned how to train him. Such a great breed.

Hi I wanted to reach out and thank you for your amazing RU-vid channel, I just recently found. Like you I am also a mirror twin, my twin was tragically killed by a drunk driver in a car accident when we were 20. Like you we both are native Floridians who grew up fishing. Ironically we also attended UM, lol. I have been really enjoying watching your content as it takes me back to my favorite times fishing with my brother. I wish you still did charters as I would have enjoyed a fishing trip with you two. Again awesome family friendly channel and keep up the awesome catches! Thank you.

Congratulations on the new deckhand, when is Kona getting her Captains license? Can't wait to see her reaction to a Tarpon that is twice her size. I used to swim show dogs to build muscle mass, if there are a couple things I would recommend. The first is to be sure that the spaces between her pads don't remain wet for long periods of time ... things can grow there, and sores/infections can be difficult to detect early. If you have time I would suggest a fresh water wash down and blow dryer on the lowest setting when you get home after a swim (most dogs hate this, some don't care). If you see her licking/biting at her feet intently check between all the pads. The other thing is to be very mindful of her ears, dogs who swim often get ear irritation which can become infections, if you see her shaking her head vigorously after swimming she likely has some water in her ear(s) ... try not to let her do that, the centrifugal force generated is enough to cause the blood to collect in the tips of the ear becoming a hematoma and eventually split the ear and this is VERY alarming to see a pet owner try to understand what is going on when their house has little red speckles all over it and the dogs ear is twice the thickness it normally would be (this is from repeated sustained shaking ... a quick shake once or twice a day isn't much to worry about, much more than that and I'd have it looked at.). If you already know these things that is great, if not ... well there you go. I would also let your vet know that she may be doing a lot of swimming and what advise they have as well.

Sheps are just the best. My two spent many many days on the boat and on the beaches and sandbars. Keep her socialized with as many people and other animals as you can and you will have a companion that can take anywhere with confidence. Give glucosamine way before she needs it, gsd joints aren't forever.
