Aytee Kalico trained for the specialist job of Lowland Search and Rescue Dog in East Anglia and I went along to watch her on a training exercise. It is great to see a GSP's natural ability being put to use in this way. She will be a very effective part of the team and potentially save many hours of searching as she can search large areas relatively quickly. Thanks to all the team involved in putting on the exercise and particularly the Danks family.

Nice, you know you can't hide from a GPS it is impossible :) I use to run 1 mile from my dog and climb a tree, 3 minutes later the dog galloped up and looked staight up in the tree. it was a waste of time trying. They are the most versitle dog breed out there, they can do anything. I hide 10 small chunks of cheese around the house and telll my dog Hawkeye to find them, he makes short work of it. I just laugh. Nice looking dog and cool video.

I love this, you are right they read the book before we did I think! Keeping one step ahead of them is the joy of it. Hawkeye is probably counting the cheeses 😀. Btw you cant hide from a GPS either 🤣

Very interesting video Lucie , amazing how Juno will ignore other people . I had a lab and GWP and would get friends to hide in the woods from them but they had normally split from me and hid so dogs could track them. It was interesting to see the lab ground scent and the GWP air scent, only fault with them was the search was cancelled if they got on game scent😂. How had they overcome the dogs natural interest in game ?

Hi 666gwp, thats an interesting question .....Juno's handler says that Juno's body language when she is on birds is different from her body language when hunting human scent and he can easily call her off a bird/game scent point and with definate Q's quickly re-establish the human scent hunt. By always rewarding good work on human scent and because he has always ignored or discouraged work on birds, she too has learnt what is required. I guess it is a similar approach in our gundog work when we discourage in the early days, any points on 'skylarks' and the dog soon learns to pass over anything but game.

@@AyteeGSPs Hi Lucie, yes that makes sense, I am just impressed he has managed to do it 😂, might be with me being used to GWP but as you say even driven dog will quite easily ignore skylarks , black birds etc yet be on a mission for game. If a pointer is trained to ignore game is obviously a great asset for this job, natural great nose and can systematically cover lots of ground too. Great video and thanks for your reply 👍
