My brother has one and we fall for each other when I visited last June to the point I’m looking for them everywhere in Boston, the other day Ii met a neighbor with a Pomeranian and that’s the reason I’m watching this video, I love this breed
Our Spitz is so much fun and full of personality. He's a very good guard dog. Any little sound outside will cause him to bark. He lets us know right away if we should look outside for packages from the delivery person. These are great dogs with energy and curiosity.
because they are the same... The German spitz actually comes in 4 sizes: Großspitz ("big spitz"), Mittelspitz ("middle spitz"), Kleinspitz ("small spitz") and Zwergspitz ("dwarf spitz"). The "dwarf spitz" is called Pomeranian in English. And the way the German spitz is divided into those categories is by size, meaning Pomeranians are just the smallest variant of the German spitz breed. idk maybe you could call Pomeranians a sub-breed of the German spitz... or a variant or whatever
Hello. Could you make a video explaining the differences between the German Spitz, Pomeranian, and Volpino Italiano? Other than size, they look identical so it would be nice to have more information on how to differentiate them. Thank you.
I had one for a year but had to sell it(my mom sold it). I just couldn't potty train it(maybe I was lazy). But she was a very smart dog. She had good ears and would bark at something suspicious. Never once bit me or so much even growl.. Also had very nice white teeth. She also started to shed after a year.
As someone who's spent a lot of time with this breed, I can say they all react a bit differently to wild animals. Some of them have a pray instinct and some not at all. Some like to alert for animals and some aren't curious about them at all. In general, I'd say all spitzes are watchful, alert, energetic and always following you, they just love people's company. Most of them are really intelligent too so they make great dogs for many sports and hobbies. Some are a bit nervous due to being reserved about new things, a typical issue for larger spitzes as well. So in my experience they require pretty good socialization, if you don't want a dog, that alerts for everything or is timid. They make perfect and easygoing pets but you need to understand their nature and purpose as watchdogs.
Hey, great video you made there but I found one mistake regarding the pray drive: german spitz have a very low pray drive which makes them great shepards. They will protect everyone who they see as their pride including kids ducks bunnies or whatever animal that belongs to your household or farm.
No, they actually do have a strong prey drive in my experience. I have the worlds premier squirrel hunter! She also 'dives' into the undergrowth for small rodents (I assume) like an artic fox in the snow. It's taken me a whole 15 months to teach a retrieve but now she is learning flyball and loving it. She is a wonderfully fun little dog to own and super affectionate, I've never owned anything quite like her in 40+ years of showing and working larger breeds (shepherds and BSD's) I love her beyond words XX
Fact: Deustche Spitz comes in 3 sizes. Toy, Mini and standard. Standards being the largest up to 30 lbs. I also have owned Spitz dogs for many many years. You need to research before giving false info.
German spitz has been acting as guard dog for ages. They have been working as protectors of the travellers and guard dogs for wineyards for example (dark colors, big german spitz). So answer is: “yes, they are (or can be) guard dogs” and at the same time answer is “no, they are not” :). Grosspitz (Großspitz, giant german spitz) is still in many places (Germany and Czech) a working guard dog, where the smaller german spitzes (kleinspitz and mittelspitz) have been more like "doorbells" (informing of everything). Small and medium size spitzes are barking more and if you have them with grosspitz, bigger spitz comes to check what is the situation and is ready to act if needed. Grosspitzes (big german spitz) are in (most cases) just like they have been for hundreds of years where smaller variations of the german spitz breed has been bred hundreds of years to a different direction (companion dogs, with not so much primitive instincts where big german spitz still is a guarding dog in many places). Grosspitz is extremely endangered breed and this most original type of the german spitz does not exist in many countries.
@@knutundthomasforever2959 Plus big german spitz (weight up to 45 lbs or more :) which is the most original type of the german spitz, very primitive and extremely endangered
