It usually has more to do with the oxygen content in the water. I assume temperature plays a part on all the micro organisms that would otherwise have a feast.
@azwris
@azwris 2 года назад
@@herrhaber9076 Of course! It must be a combination of all these factors. Plus the fact that the iron parts had much better quality than today's.
@herrhaber9076
@herrhaber9076 2 года назад
@@azwris I'm not certain iron & steel are of better qualities nowadays. We probably have a better or more suited range for a lot of applications though. One sure thing though, is that the steel used for ammo was top quality. When chemically restauring rusted parts you get to see the microstructure of the steel and well... I'm not a material engineer but the steel from a simple 20mm is quite interesting compared to say a steel pipe. But like you, I'm more impressed by the accessories than the shells themselves. 75 year old wood cases that look as if they were made yesterday is always amazing :)
@azwris
@azwris 2 года назад
@@herrhaber9076 A lot of steel comes from recycled one these days. In automobile as well. This is not of the same durability for sure. I have personal experience but then again each case can be different. Thank you for your comments and yes, the accessories are awesome. They were the reason of my initial post. Awesome stuff!

Those ones were fairly safe to handle. Nonetheless they show high disregard for safety while handling explosives and ammunition in all of their videos. Prime example in this one, is him shaking the smoke shell out of casing while his face was directly above the front of projectile. If that gone of he'll be permanently blind in best case scenario, missing his head in worst.

Did the Germans manufacture this type of cage for every artillery grenade? That sounds very expensive.
@hartmutwrith3134
@hartmutwrith3134 2 года назад
it is more expensive if they blow up on transport. Yes, these transport riggs had been and are still standard not only in our German army. These artillery amo had been transportet thousands of miles from Germany by train, horse wagons (most transport in the eastern theatre had been done with horse waggons) and lorries and that had been a very bumpy business. Without these riggs/boxes everything would have blown up.
