The ribbon bar is for years of service. , 5 yr, 10 yr, and 15 years and a bronze verdienstmedaille

I believe the small badge included as a gift is a Volksmarine reservist’s badge. Similar badges exist for army, air force and Grenztruppen.

Yes - I've got all 4 somewhere and to by knowledge they are reservist related

@@boffinboy100 I think they may have been introduced late in the GDR's existence and may not have actually been issued.

yes, it is a VM reservist badge. These were due to be introduced in 1990 but it never came to that.
