She was my former schoolmate and lived in the same district as me. She was not interesting for me back in the days while highlighting the EU because we knew that the EU had to much wrongs. But now she takes her energies to improve German society and politics. I'm happy that she is seen in other countries. Her struggle made her stronger.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech. Some people who are in tune with the establishment can say anything they like, whether fact or not. The truth is the establishment are worried, and must be protected by dismissing any alternative that might gain traction.

Ulrike, the writer Milan Kundera expressed very eloquently his observation that young people are the most easily led into ideological positions. His novel The Joke began with such an incident. It is the young who are most often mobilized to enforce repressive ideas.

As Lavrentiy Beria, Stalin’s Chief of the secret police famously said, “Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime.”

This era will be remembered as the Western Cultural Revolution. It doesn’t have the violence of Mao’s, but the way young is empowered and university leaders are removed or silent, it’s very similar.

I worked in academic publishing. In my day, these errors would be corrected in an erratum slip or by correction for a reprint ... and it is the copy editor who would be held responsible for these errors by the publisher but the publisher who would take responsibility publicly. No academic should have to publish without the support of an experienced and very good copy editor. A very good editor picks up plagiarism without modern tools. In my day, extensive plagiarism was sometimes picked up in manuscripts. The publisher either chose not to publish or fixed the problem by rewriting (there are various ways) ... depending on how important the work was as a whole. Why are publishers not taking any responsibility? Why are publishers and academic institutions not working together to find a way to protect academics by looking at standards and practices and fixing what seems to be a broken system?

The problem isn't what is "desired or not desired" but who decides what is " desired or not desired" in any country. They who ever they are , are the real problem and the real cause of the problems of not a country but maybe humanity.

This is an interesting conversation, but too academic for me, I'm just a reader. I used to be an avid newspaper reader. Three national newspapers, a weekly and a magazine during the vacations. I gave that up more than 20 years ago. Local editorial offices were closed and the national coverage was always the same. The Bild (yellow press) was enough. Somewhere, at least in my professional environment, it was lying around anyway. Why subscribe to a newspaper when an essay from a different perspective might appear once a month in the feature section? At the time of the Maidan, there was only one weekly newspaper that offered excellent information online. Only the headlines of the editorial articles were read. Readers went straight to the comment columns, where links were expressly encouraged. The moderation did not allow links suspected of being fake news, but there were plenty left. It wasn't long before reader comments were transparently deleted page by page challenging journalist`s view. In some circles, there was a feeling that Swiss newspapers were the new "Western television" (a standard phrase in socialist east Germany on quality of information). A new market developed, Swiss news with a .de address. Whether on Papier or on the Internet, the articles are thin and short. Comment space with 500 characters max, the most liked are prefixed as top comments. Education for emotionalization, click-baits. I know young people at a university through my visits to the dormitory. Some are politically disinterested because they are convinced that they don't know the background anyway and have better things to do than research for themselves. Others swim in the zeitgeist. They hardly think at all. Example: An indignant resident in the kitchen says that a homeless person is staying illegally in the forest. On the cupboard wall it is clearly written in large letters: "No one is illegal". Or the outcry caused in a US university town by a flyer with the text: "Islam is right about women". Communication in slogans on every side, whether for something or against it. How often have I heard recently the saying: "I've done everything right, when buying a car, in life, etc."? Now anyone who, as an academic, argues in an understandable way that is not just differentiated for their own academic bubble, or journalists who only address the other side with emotional reporting/pity, can get into trouble. Journalists and academia are increasingly on a mission, whether pro or con, and it seems to me that the claim to report and argue neutrally has been lost. Everyone wants to feel. Everyone wants clicks. Everyone wants to get everything right. If "everything done right" is in danger, it might mean: If you are not willing, I need violence, figuratively speaking.

One could argue that any language is plagerism. Do we not all use the same words, sentences, context to communicate. Even writers when putting down their ideas may not have been the first to think of them. Language is limited it's not infinite when expressing thought. Even our education systems teach us to think in a uniform manner how can one remember who said what or even if someone else came up with an idea 100% of the time.
