Come with me to deliver machinery to Germany. I don’t speak any German but the people are always helpful and the country is always clean.
Oh, I forgot to mention, the reason it’s @GBtrucklady is because @GBlorrylady was taken at the time 😁😂
How I tie the ratchet strap ends down.
• Amazing! How to secure...

I grew up in England saying Lorry, my brother is a 'Lorry Driver' but after living in Oz for many years I now say 'Truck' but when I hear someone say Lorry it makes me smile & I think it sounds quaint. As for straps I was always told to put the ratchet on the nearside, so that if you need to stop & tighten them, you're not standing in the middle of the road. Enjoying travelling with you.

Not a bonnetted conventional prime mover (Australian here) in sight! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
@GBtrucklady
@GBtrucklady 28 дней назад
No, they’re not used much in UK or Europe as overall length is restricted. Articulated truck and trailer length is 16.5 metres and road trains are allowed up to 18.75 metres, which means if the bonnet is longer then you loose payload space. To be honest, they’re just not practical here as we don’t have as much space, our roads, towns and industrial areas are not designed for them.

Nice to see you driving in Germany. The place you crossed the Rhine, Iffezheim, is actually the last lock on the Rhine. From there on the Rhine flows free all the way up to the Netherlands. You have been to Augsburg, a very beautiful city - a pity you couldn't stay over night and have look at the center. LKW in German is a short form for "Lastkraftwagen", in coloquial German we say "Lastwagen" for lorry and the driver is a "Lastwagenfahrer" or in your case, the female form "Lastwagenfahrerin". You could say: "Ich bin Lastwagenfahrerin" (I'm a lorrydriver). Greetings from Offenbach/Germany!

Another great video, recognised the airport at Sttutgart, that you passed through at night. My son worked at Porsche in Sttutgart and used to visit him on a regular basis. Agreed the Black Forest is beautiful. It looked like you unloaded in Augsburg. I used to visit Ulm in the 1980's which is quite close and drove through Augsburg to get there. Couldn't believe in the Magirus factory in Ulm they had vending machines that dispensed small bottles of beer. Agreed Germany is a very efficient country, the language is a bit mechanical though. Another couple of words you can learn in German is Krankenvagen ( ambulance), Krankenhaus ( hospital) and the town hall is called the Rathaus. Crazy language but fun

Welcome back. Hope you had a fantastic holiday, and now back with a bang🤣. I'm also back with a new desktop. I've had to watch your videos of NZ and Aus on my tablet, which isn't very good. I've been to Germany many, many years ago, in the early 1980s, as my hubby was based in the Army over there around Celle, Belsen Bergen and other places. Have been to the Black Forest as well, but I did find northern Germany far prettier. I also drove over the Rhine when we visited Arnhem (A Bridge Too Far) in Holland, over to Germany, then Belgium and back home. I actually picked up some of the languages when over there, and what I do, is learn the very basics, eg, good morning/day/night, how to ask for things, thank you, etc. The easiest was Oo Ar... when asking for something. Can't spell the words, just how its prounced🤣. I picked that up from Manchester United fans when asking "where is" Eric Cantonar. Don't bother about the idiots who try to correct you on words. To me, they're just ignorant. After all, English came from England🤣🤣🤣, so actually, we're the ones that are always correct

Welcome back, didn’t mind driving in Germany. Lots of night driving there but the facilities are spotlessly everywhere. Used to load yogurt in Wurzburg and if you had to finish your break they had spots to park with a plug in. Plenty rules and regulations which as a Paddy I struggled with but not half as hard as the Polizei struggled with me . Ah good old times and love the sound off the Scania your driving now. Old joke with the lads on the fish was , you drive a lorry if you don’t drive a V8 Scania. Over here in the States a lorry can be a truck, semi, 18 wheeler, Large Car and Rooster Cruiser. Trailers are Reefer for a fridge, Skateboard for a flatbed and a Can for a Container with a car transporter being a Portable Parking Lot. The list goes on and on.

I always call a lorry a lorry. Regardless of whom I am speaking to. Simple reason, that is what we say in the UK. Interesting fact is that here in Japan, regardless of whether rigid or an articulated lorry, they are commonly referred to as 'trailers'. When I first came here back in 1991, artics were few and far between. Limited to petrol tankers, which interestingly enough are called 'tank lorry' here. The other variant was a car transporter. That was it. Private trailers behind cars were non-existent until the mid-nineties, even though Subaru had manufactured and sold a caravan briefly in the early seventies. Nowadays, artics are commonplace as well as dolly trailers and centre axle HGV trailers. Consequently, the terminology is also starting to change. Private trailers, goods, caravans, boat and jet-ski as well as car transporters, are now common and increasing year on year.

Great to watch from Aussie one question what’s the payload max sorry 2 question with all the costs how does it pay also are the French Les routes still good food
@GBtrucklady
@GBtrucklady Месяц назад
As a general rule, the maximum overall weight permissible in Europe is 40tonnes. In UK it’s 44tonnes. I believe in some Nordic countries this is higher and obviously there is provision for “special or abnormal” transport. Most of the Routiers in France are good but again they get busy early. The problem being, people parking but not using the cafe which blocks parking but doesn’t help the cafe stay viable. The German autohof’s are now charging to park but giving you the same amount off your food.

That inland land border facility (20 miles from dover& tunnel) will get ultra busy soon But there are many orange staff to assist. Think you had a booking with p&o and sailed on a dfds boat, that happens as p&o + dfds have a space share arrangement So you travel on the next available dover calais sailing. Not my idea so Irish ferries gets my credit card now. The people i do a week away dont allow me to film had to sign a nda , not that bothered thou. Safe travels and ta for the videos.

No John only tarps when he has too! 😂 but my brother showed me many years ago, although I’ve not done it for years so I’m sure it wouldn’t look the best. My boss is very good at it and his young sons are brilliant but they do it week in week out.

Just came across your videos enjoyed the watch! A question i have for yourself is what advice would you give for someone looking to get into European ? would you say jump straight to a HGV or would vans be a better place to start ? what's your pro's and con's to doing it working for someone else of running your own vehicle
@GBtrucklady
@GBtrucklady Месяц назад
Lots of questions! Firstly I just went straight to artics when I past my test, then when I started European work I was straight out with artic too, don’t see the point in going with a van, unless you already have a job doing it. To get any job it’s a case of replying to ad’s or knocking on doors I’m afraid. There’s lots of pro’s & con’s to being self employed. You make your own decisions. You choose what work you do. You choose when you work. You choose what lorry you buy. You get to see the whole picture. You enjoy the buzz, that you never switch off. but If you don’t work, you don’t get paid. No holiday money. You have to find work. You are responsible for all tax etc. You do invoicing. You chase debts. You are responsible for up keep of equipment. The buck stops with you when a job goes wrong. You never switch off. And that’s just a few things.

@@GBtrucklady Thanks for the reply some good tips i used to do long distance sameday stuff in a van always dreamed of driving abroad doing the it but covid happened i ended up selling my van and been looking at getting back into it but quite nervous about taking a class 1 over water as seen on some videos it can be quite rural and tight in places so my thinking was that be good to learn in a van regards to ferrys/tunnel paper wrok customs etc
@GBtrucklady
@GBtrucklady Месяц назад
@Joe-bj9qr If you take your test, unfortunately the biggest problem you will have is getting experience. Most firms want at least 2 years experience. There seems alot of new drivers struggling to get work because of lack of experience but they can’t get experience if no one gives them a chance, it’s a vicious circle I’m afraid.

@@GBtrucklady I do hold a class 1 had it for 18months or so not had many issues getting work locally but I live on a farm so working away for 2 weeks then home for 2/3 days then away again isn’t a option for me unfortunately so hence the thinking of a van to begin with see if I actually like it abroad (I have driven abroad for holidays 1000% loved it ) diffrent ball game when your working doing it though with the customs etc and possibly look at a unit of my own further down the line like you said pick your work etc

Another interesting video Sherralin. How pathetic people have been "correcting" what you call your "work vehicle". As you quite rightly said 👍you drive your "lorry" and each country has their own name for their lorry. People need to learn to be more tolerant and not so critical. I wish you happy and safe travels in your lorry Sherralin. Best wishes, Gail, Czech Republic ❤️

yes that happens to me too, rental car from Brussels Airport to Aachen and at the border at the time they were controlling the border and the police spoke to me in his broken English and didn't want to understand where I'm going to, eventually he found out I could speak German, he said, why don't you say you can speak German,. I replied, you didn't ask, and your English needs brushing up.at the end it doesn't matter, truck, lorry driver, in Germany you're a bad LKW Fahrer.

Bang! Back to reality! How did you cope with the sudden change in temp? Mr Nesh ere. I would be still stuck to a hot radiator with a hot water bottle! To Mr Pedantic sub; I am 65, my dad described himself as a wagon dvr, I described him as a lorry dvr. Nowadays they call themselves truckdrivers. Language, like vehs, just rolls on.

Hi Sherralin nice to see you are back from Australia. Just one thing i did notice about your trip? not nit picking lol , Buy why do companys run mismatched outfits ? i could / would not let a vehicle out of the yard looking like that, but then againg i have pride in what i do. That trailer was at least a foot if not more out of alignment ffs.Had it got an air problem ? if not it looks like a pikey setup lol, All My vehicles run level ( there is a good reason for that ) i even check trailers with spirit level from time to time lol, its easy to readjust air suspension if you know what you are doing, I wonder what the Germans thought of it lol? some micky mouse English Operator over here maybe, With your professionalism in euro work surly then can give you the right equipement to do the job with ? What i will say you are to Good to work for that unprofessional outfit thats for sure. (As i said Not Nit picking, but i don`t think a blind man would be glad to see that serup )
