That is enough to make a grown man cry. That DOES make this grown man cry. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

Guy Fawkes In my humble opinion this piece is the most beautiful of all masterpieces. Another very enjoyable video version here on youtube is played by a 13 year old young woman named Emily Bear. Do yourself a favor and watch it- it is delightful... and Guy Fawkes- When I listen to this song I do so with tears running down my face, and sometimes am unable to catch my breath. To watch me one would assume I was having an ecstatic religious experience.

Agreed, Bob. Incredible piece of music. And I will definitely check out the Emily Bear video.

Gordontrek pretty much nailed it on the head here. If you listen to this with headphones, it gives a whole new appreciation to the greatness of this recording. As close to perfection as I have ever heard.

I’ve been looking for a version of this with gong at the end ever since I heard a poor quality recording made by Gershwin himself! Once again, the Chicago Symphony delivers.

This is Grofé's original 1924 orchestration. The later version is for a full symphonic orchestra.

@@johnharshfield4726 The original 1924 recording with George Gershwin playing was actually faster. This recording has the closest tempo to the original I have heard so far. Many conductors tend to stretch out the notes to highlight the harmonies. But I think Gershwin was like, I don't care. Its all about the tempo which highlights the "wild" opportunities of his time - the emancipation of black slaves that introduced elements of black jazz music into the mainstream American culture, the Jewish immigrants like Einstein and Gershwin's parents, the Irish dockworkers, the chorus line, the invention of the automobile, movies and showbiz. Gershwin is the absolute American composer who captures it all. When listening to Rhapsody in Blue, I hear the shout of the lowly ring -- "Despite all difficult challenges, in America - God and Freedom reigns because God sets the captives free."

@paridecanu7004 8 лет назад

Look for Leonard Bernstein's recording of the piece -- a better interpretation, I think.
@history2tube
@history2tube 4 года назад
@@amyl363 This is more authentic to Gershwin's intent, less romanticized, more faithful to its 1920s jazz band roots, and the recording is superb. Bernstein's interpretation reminds me somewhat of the 1970's trend to try to make classic ragtime piano music sound classical, which suddenly made it appropriate to play on classical radio stations.
