awesome song always enjoyed the works of Autechre/Gescom when i first heard them all those years back i remember thinking that this is the music i have been waiting to hear all my life
this Leaf compilation turned me on to the both Gescom and Disjecta. this is easily one of the moodiest and most expertly cavernous electronic tracks I've ever heard.
Gescom was Autechre alongside various collaborators. I first heard this track on Paul Thomas' show on Kiss 100FM in 1995, and have always wondered whether Aphex Twin had a hand in the production. The soundscapes are reminiscent of a couple of the tracks on Analogue Bubblebath 3, and the beats have an air of Caustic Window about them. Even if not, it's still one of my favourite tracks from this era of electronic music.
I doubt it is RDJ but I agree that some of the synths are very reminiscent of his style. Booth and Brown often pay homages to him though, there's nearly always a track on each LP done in his style, latest example being Y7 from Move of Ten.
Even if this sounds like a variation of Bronchusevenmx24 (of which I think the name was derived from), it goes to show restructuring, repurpose, form and function has never dissolved, only amplified with Booth/Brown's work.
how have i NEVER HEARD THIS ONE. freakin awesome AE 'IS' GESCOM.....other people come in and fall into the trance/spell/vibe....making what is GESCOM. does that make sense?
kind of makes sense. they generally seem to use gescom to do more 'straightforward' stuff than they'd be comfortable releasing as ae - so it should kind of be the more popular project (considering how much more popular ae's simpler early releases were than the later more experimental ones. 'bike' is there most streamed song for instance). i guess the reason it's not is that it's mostly only ae fans that know about it and they obviously have a taste for ae's wierdness.
