This method is absolutely working. Thank you so much! I started my channel on January 16, 2023 and have over 9K views and 43 subs. What I don't understand is how some videos I spend HOURS making with a ton of effort...and they get a few views, then I will put something simple together in 20 mins and it gets over 2k views! I have a professional Audio background (mixing live sound for concerts) but I thought this would be a fun side venture. I give a ton of respect to those of you trying to do this without a background in audio. Editing audio in a recoding program can be difficult for sure if you have never done it!! Thank you Sarah!

Hi Sarah! I wanted to give an update from my comment 8 months ago. I am happy to report that I now have 319 subscribers! Yes, growth is slow and it takes a lot of persistence to create a successful sound effects channel. I just learned last night that RU-vid changed its policy and now only requires 500 subscribers and 3000 hours to get monetized and I am super excited. It gave me an extra jolt of energy to keep pushing on. Thank you for the idea and all the information that you packed into this video. 😊

This method hardly works on RU-vid anymore for adsense. These channels that are monetized on the platform were started years ago. If you start a channel like this now, you'll get views but when trying to apply for adsense you'll get denied. Because of the reused and repetitive content policy RU-vid has in place now. The platform is prioritizing channels that are more unique, videos with voiceover, fresh content, etc.
@WholesaleTed
@WholesaleTed Год назад
The majority of youtube channels make most of their money from things other than adsense. The truth is, even if you remove adsense, the money you can make from things like affiliate marketing, selling your own audio packs etc more than makes it worth it.

If you did want to sell sound clips, but didn't want to have to set up your own website, listing them on Etsy would be a good idea. You would then make some organic sales through internal Etsy search engine too. But selling them on your own website means you don't have any Etsy fees. So that's probably the most profitable way but it definitely requires more work to set up!

@WholesaleTed
@WholesaleTed Год назад
I discovered this niche because I myself was looking for these videos. There's lots of reasons people watch these videos. * They use them as part of games/pranks/quizzes etc. * They use them as references. * They use them for their pets as pets often enjoy these sorts of noises. * They use them as part of research. * And for better or for worse, people use these to download them and then take the sound clips from the videos which, as this video discussed, is controversially legally, but people do indeed do it.

None of the sound FX channels mentioned in this video are monetized. Which would make me worry RU-vid doesn't like them. They also don't even upload videos anymore. If they're making so much money why would they abandon the channel. Maybe it would work out I don't know, but if somebody tries this I'd be interested in knowing how it went for you.
@WholesaleTed

Sound clip videos can & are monetized. There is nothing about the videos themselves that mean they're not eligible. Here are some that have monetization turned on: www.youtube.com/@nBeatsofficial/ www.youtube.com/@SoundEffectDatabase I learned through people in the comments that there is a monetization-turned-on checker which is very handy. So I'll use that for any future videos! It turns out that a requirement for monetization I didn't realize, is you need to meet the activity threshold, which these channels do not, which is a shame because you can just schedule a bunch of Community Posts in-advance to go out passively, to meet the threshold of staying active, but even big RU-vidrs don't realize that: support.google.com/youtube/answer/72851 There is nothing about the niche of sound effects that means they can't be monetized. People just aren't because: * They aren't meeting the new requirement of being active enough. * They have copyrighted material on their channels - which as I've shown, and these other channels I've linked to show, is unnecessary 🙏

@@WholesaleTed New Viewer here. (sorry to piggyback but I wasn't able to start my own thread for some reason) I have a question. Is it better to do research into what is currently trending in terms of sound clips? In order to increase viewership and being eligible for monetization? Or do you just do what speaks to you as an individual? I love listening to the rain sound clips at night and for background during the day, I love the jazz so I wanted to do that but I don't know how profitable it would be. I was diagnosed this summer with an illness (long story) and of course, I need to bring in money but I also want to have fun as well. My fear is that I'll just be all over the place & my channel will have no rhyme or reason. Are short videos better than long? Is it quality over quantity? I made a 43 second video. Hello Ted, do you know if this concept applies to video footage as well? Say you download some clips from places like Envato or Storyblocks, and then change the footage and weave the pieces together with other footage to create your own clips.....I'm thinking that would be on the "up & up" as well.. What do you think?
@WholesaleTed
@WholesaleTed Год назад
I think that's what this monetized channel is doing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Dylx9JBBZg.html Find a way to give it a good marketing spin. Rather than advertise it as just random videos, give it a "purpose" in the title. E.g. let's say you included different stock clips of USA & the UK. You could name your title "USA vs. UK" - now you have a valid reason to use the clips. You are contrasting the two countries. You are taking something the pre-exists but are transforming it into a new purpose. That's what I did with the bird sounds: I contrasted how different they all sound. Be creative!

Sort of underhanded isn't it? That clip of sneaky music was done by Kevin Macleod (it even says so in the video), and he has his own website that explicitly states that resale of the clips is forbidden. So if that channel is not owned by him (looks like it's not) then I don't understand how it's legal for someone to earn money of compositions from someone else even if it is under CC license. The stipulation is that Kevin must be credited, is that disclosed on the RU-vid channel?

SoundEffectsFactory - no monetization on the channel , Gaming Sound FX - no monetization , Dayhan RV - no monetization. Here's the real reason these channels don't work - NO MONETIZATION. You can make the same channels, but RU-vid will not pay you anything.
@WholesaleTed
@WholesaleTed Год назад
🙏 Just to clarify Sound Clip videos & channels can be monetized & are earning money from RU-vid Adsense: * www.youtube.com/@MAXINPASSION/videos - this is a good one to note, as some people have been saying "maybe only historic channels can be monetized" - no, this Sound Clip channel has only started uploading videos within the past year and it become eligible only within the past 6ish months. * www.youtube.com/@SoundEffectDatabase * www.youtube.com/@SunvilleSounds * www.youtube.com/@ScenicScenes * www.youtube.com/@Fireplace4K 🙏 This confusion may be because I was wrong in this video that these channels are monetized. They aren't - and I apologize 🙏 and that mistake is because I didn't realize that: a) Having copyrighted material on your channel can hold your entire channel back from being monetized (which e.g. Gaming Sound FX has with the gaming sound effects) b) That a recent change to monetization means you now need to be posting to your channel every 6 months. To clarify, that includes Community Posts, which are just text posts you can set & forget in-advance to go out automatically. But as Dayhan RV doesn't even do that, they're no longer eligible for monetization: support.google.com/youtube/answer/72851?hl=en Again, I apologize for that confusion 🙏 prior to making this video, I did not know there were browser extensions that showed whether a channel was monetized or not. Now that I know that, I will definitely use it in the future! But again: there is nothing about Sound Clips that make them ineligible for monetization which is why the other channels I mentioned are monetized. If you adhere to the rules, you can monetize Sound Clip videos, as shown by how most channels are monetized. I would also like to clarify that in this video, I suggested that the montage route is a lot better, and people seem to be instead suggesting that I instead said that uploading sound clip videos individually was better, when in reality, I did a big tutorial video showing how to turn sound clips into new montage style videos at 9:33 Another example of a montage sound clip channel is this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Dylx9JBBZg.html It uses sounds/video clips that they didn't take themselves but have the right to use, and combines it to create a new montage style video. By doing this, it transforms the sound clips into a very different video, despite still being a sound clip video. If people are worried that their videos would be viewed as low effort/deriviative, then I would suggest they consider my tutorial at 9:33 and instead create montage videos that fill a gap in the market 🙏 I would also like to clarify that I also did not suggest that adsense is the only way to earn money. Despite Gaming SFX not being eligible for monetization with the copyrighted content on the channel, the channel continues to earn money because of the alternative monetization source I discussed in 10:45 - the channel is earning money through affiliate programs for Sound Clip subscription services, like I discussed at 10:45 🙏 And so - even if it were accurate (which again, to clarify, it is not) that Sound Clips cannot be monetized by adsense, they can still be monetized, thanks to the alternative form of monetization this video 🙏

I have found that other people have had the same happen to their channels.. Now I am trinkling with very little views, so just thought to bring this up, as something that is happening to RU-vid channels.. I was told through a source moments ago that the algorithm giveth and the algorithm taketh away, thus no more youtube promotions of my videos..I guess my conversions rates were under what they consider to promote? Not understanding this as my most popular on the LifeTime views on my most popular video are at 25.5k views..129.0 watch time hours.. and 139+ subscribers, that it brought in. It was published August 13, 2022 :(... Just a heads up concerning the channel verification... From what info I learned recently from another seasoned and monetized RU-vidr, was that it was the watch hours that really mattered, because it is the number of watch hours that they use as a selling point to potential advertisers. They say it's not too difficult to get a thousand subscribers compared to getting a meaningful number of watch hours. So 129 watch hours on a video with over 25k views in a certain time frame, seems like a low ratio of actual watch hours and would not be enough to attract advertisers to want to pay to advertise on that video. I think to be even eligible to be monetized, that you need a minimum of 4,000 watch hours.

Awesome video, Sarah! You always share golden nuggets. There is a never-ending amount of clips out there. The clips you mentioned and there are rain clips, wave clips, crackling fire clips, wind clips. (mind blown!!!). This is sort of like those rain videos I see that are like 12 hours, but this is much shorter. What is the ideal length for the videos? Could Canva be used to create these types of videos or do we need an editor like you mentioned? Thanks!

Thank you! I don't really know how long they "should" be - I'd say think about what type of way you want to put your spin on it (e.g. by turning them into a comparison video like I did with the birds sounds) and then see what the average length for those clips are on RU-vid, and aim for that.

Hi Sarah, thanks for the video! I have an crucial question though: whether you monetize it by using ads (which has an important bottleneck of 1k subs / 4k hours plus the debate in the comments whether it can be indeed monetized or not) or by using affiliate links in the description you need traffic to your video. So, how one gets traffic? I would guess that we can only rely on YT ranking system, but if that is the case, how is the best way to rank such videos with the potentially high competition to be faced (as I expect to be due to low barrier to enter)?
@thebrinksf69
@thebrinksf69 Год назад
This is my question to. Its easy enough to make the video, but in order to make money from affiliates you need traffic and that's not easy.

I would think tiktok is a good starter. Tiktok is usually where people go to get traffic to their RU-vid channel. So, although it seems easy enough, you'll have to put some time into it at the beginning.
@serial1975
@serial1975 Год назад
Hi Chris, thanks but I am not convinced at all. For starters, that is to substitute one problem (how to get traffic on YT) for another (how to get traffic on TT). Second, YT has enough traffic on its own, so in theory it is not necessary to have to go to TT for a stream of traffic (in any case, I would prefer to stick to TT and develop an income there). So far, although Sarah's suggestion seems like a nice and easy to develop idea, I do not see its feasibility so far because of the traffic issue.

From my perspective, I find this suspicion strange/confusing, but I do understand that for many people that haven't started RU-vid channels before, it does seem strange. Most people assume there is some "magic" to RU-vid traffic. But it's honestly as simple as uploading great videos. You upload good videos that fill a need/niche & YT will just put your videos in front of the right people. No external marketing required. As someone who has done this many times, from scratch, I understand that this probably seems too good to be true, but it's not. 🙏

@@WholesaleTed That's a pretty cool and encouraging answer. I recently started my first print on demand t-shirt company and I'm getting all the little details of it sorted out to make sure it's all as automated as it needs to be but it looks good. And I'm interested in this concept as well. I enormously appreciate your videos. I'm a single dad. I've got two kids youngest of which is autistic and I've painted homes for 16 years and it doesn't cover the bills enough. And I'm way more creative than that. Ads are run on all channels, including channels that are not monetized. Being monetized only influences whether YT gets 100% of the money from the ads, or if they have to split them with you. Most of the time on YT, videos won't have ads playing before them. The exception is if your channel is in an extremely high-demand niche like mine is. You'll always get ads playing before my videos since my niches are in high demand from advertisers, which drives up my CPM: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gNuEKzzryhc.html

Those channels are not monetized and do not earn from ads :)
@influencerunchained-digita4763
It's extremely hard if not impossible to get one of these channels monetized now. This is stated by RU-vid, under "Monetization Policies": Content that violates this guideline Taking someone else’s content, making minimal changes, and calling it your own original work would be a violation of this guideline. This policy applies even if you have permission from the original creator. Reused content is separate from RU-vid’s Copyright enforcement, which means it’s not based on copyright, permission, or fair use. Don't spend time and energy on a channel with so much risk and so little chance of being monetized! Focus on original (e.g. a hobby) content instead!

I still don't get it. Apart from content creators, there are some people who love watching/listening to dog barking, ice blenders working? How can youtuber monetize from these videos?
@WholesaleTed
@WholesaleTed Год назад
You can monetize them... because they have ads playing on them, just like any other video! I don't quite understand that question, haha. In terms of why people watch Sound Clip videos, there is a big range of reasons: * People play them for parties/games etc. * People put them on for their dogs. * People use them as a reference. * For better or worse, people download the videos & use the sound clips within them themselves.

This doesn't work. This is sooo 2012. I used to have such a channel without no copyright strikes and clean content. RU-vid demonetised it for "no original or no valuable content" or some reason long those lines. Working on original content is the only thing I would suggest to anyone looking to have an income stream on RU-vid. Also, the verified checkmark doesn't ensure that your channel will be accepted for monetisation. That's one of the main reasons why a lot of such channels are abandoned by the owners. There are literally 100s of channels like this and RU-vid demonetised most of them. In all kindness, I would say this is very bad advice and will be a waste of time for anyone who want to begin a channel like this.

* They have copyrighted material on their channels - which as I've shown, and these other channels I've linked to show, is unnecessary. You didn't have to get copyrighted strikes. There are lots of ways as this video shows, to create legal sound clips!

@@WholesaleTed thanks for the rather detailed reply. A lot of clips I had were mostly recorded by me and others where a mix of purely copyright free sounds. It was making money. But, from my personal experience, RU-vid clearly stated that my channel is being demonetised because it has "content of low value or not original". My channel was quite active and I was recording and uploading consistently. I think there is a great chance only a very few of these kind of channels get monetised. Most of them don't. Again this is my 2 cents or my anecdote. When someone comes to me for RU-vid advice I always ask them to create original content for all the hardwork not to easily go waste.
@WholesaleTed

If YT didn't like your Sound Clips, why not pivot into more valuable content like I discuss in this video? Take my Bird video for example. Yes, it shows off different Bird sounds. But it also shows the contrast of what different birds sound like. A parent for example could show it to their child to explain how different birds sound. That is one of the many reasons why I think creating montage videos is a much better idea than uploading sound clips as-is. Although many channels do this & get monetized. Like this channel I discussed before: www.youtube.com/@SoundEffectDatabase

Would a sound FX channel have a hard time gaining 4,000 watch hours though, unless they really made videos several minutes long, but most FX clip videos seem just a few seconds when I've searched for sounds. And I never sub sound FX channels even though I go to them from time to time. It's just not the sort of theme I personally think of subscribing to. So....I'm just wondering if it would be so easy to get the ad sense money in reality. Other than that - amazing idea.
