AppImages are a commonly used method for packaging applications on Linux. AppImages can run on almost any distribution and include any required dependencies built-in, making them portable.
However, being portable is as much a curse as it is a blessing, as AppImages do not integrate with the system or desktop environment in the way that traditional packages do inconveniencing the user when launching them. Fortunately, an easy solution exists...
