We're kicking it off with one of the most core concepts of The Ride Series and that's Body Position. Being centered is where modern geometry bikes want you as a rider. There will come a time when you have to move, but waiting until that time is critical. In addition, being squatted down and in a "ready" position when there isn't anything to be ready for doesn't make sense. We see this all the time, especially with newer riders. "Heavy Feet/Light Hands" might just be the oldest mantra in MTB coaching and it's certainly one of the most effective.
Stand up and stand tall and relaxed! Now, relaxed is relative to MANY factors, but you should always be striving to be in the most comfortable and efficient position you can be in. So, how do you make this happen? Well, here are our thoughts on it:
1) Find a grass field or a very low key trail that you're comfortable with and focus on standing as tall as you can. This will look different for different athletes. Some will naturally hinge more, others will be more upright.
2) Take it to the trail on something low key that you're already comfortable with. It may take sometime, but you'll start to find the position that works for you!
