Great Video... Thanks... Several years ago I purchased an electric turkey fryer from Wal-Mart. It was one of the Butter Ball Fryers that they sell. I got it for about $ 60.00. The turkeys I fried were about 12lbs. I did not need the larger fryer, the one that world fry the 12-13lb fryer was plenty big. I used the mix of Canola Oil and Peanut oil from Sam's Club. I have fried two turkeys with the same oil. They say you can use it up to 5 times before disposing it. make sure the oil is cold and put it into the original container. Also before storing the oil be sure to strain the oil. I used a big tea strainer with a funnel. That took all of the little stuff out of the oil. One good thing about the electric fryer is that you just set the cooking temp and forget it. You don't have to worry about propane. The fried turkey looked so good frying I decided to cut up 3 large potatoes and make a batch of french fries ! YUM YUM.. they were crispy and delicious.

I think the cord is meant to be that short so you don't trip over the cord and spill the boiling oil?:)
@SBMfromCalifornia

+Aden Claire Not really because remember it's magnetic.. so it's designed to pop off. It's short to save on packaging costs.

the magnet and short cord are both American safety standards
@K9Trooper
@K9Trooper 7 лет назад
The cord is short because the electric fryer draws so much energy. A longer cord causes resistance and will heat up. Causing a fire hazard or short out. The same reason you shouldn't use an extension cord. Length causes resistance and the coupling of the two cords increase heat and resistance as well.
@MichaelRGlatfelterJr
@MichaelRGlatfelterJr 6 лет назад
K9Trupper is right about the cord. You can always you an appliance extension cord. They are made with a heavier gauge wire and plugs. Just make sure to match the amperage of the extension cord to the amperage of the appliance you are using. They sell them at The HomeDepot, Lowes and other hardware stores.
@bigwes8989
@bigwes8989 11 лет назад
The short cord is a safety device. It's made so people or pets can't trip over it and spill oil. The magnetic connection is also on there for the same reason. That's why they don't want you putting an extension cord on it

Good show Jack! I have been using the original Butterball Indoor Turkey Fryer for 5 years now without any failure by the product. I have deep fried many chickens, turkeys and catfish for large parties and family gatherings. everyone loves the food from this product. We have thoroughly enjoyed it. Cleaning is very easy as well. It's a win win product. Your demonstration was great. Thanks
@xirtamtech
@xirtamtech 6 лет назад
the reason for the short cord is because of the AMPs that the electric element draws. It will make the cord hot, and if it were longer, it would melt. You CAN use an extension cord, but it MUST be a very thick one (larger gauge) to match the distance. Never use longer then you need, and use as big as you can get.... and monitor the cord for excess heat.
@cookingwithjackshow
@cookingwithjackshow 11 лет назад
it all depends on where the fryer is. If you have a lower counter it should be easier. I unfortunately had to cook in that area of my kitchen. It was 19.78 lbs and took a little effort lowering in slowly.

They redesigned this fryer. I have the newer style. The biggest change is when you remove the heating element and control, behind it is the drain now. The lid is now a solid piece of stainless and gone are the vents and useless window. Otherwise the unit is unchanged. The KEY is to dry the bird thoroughly and make sure it's close to room temp before submerging it into the oil. I also tip it slightly when removing it to get the oil out of the cavity of the bird.

honestly the washer dryer is just considered more counter space when cooking. I use it all the time. I never am doing laundry while cooking. They just don't happen at the same time. Yes i bought an electric fan the other day and it also had a plug wire the length or that, shorter even. I couldnt even get it to reach onto my shelf. I think they do it at the factory to increase profits. Welcome to the modern age my friend.
@TheOGMattBurns
@TheOGMattBurns 11 лет назад
You CAN use a heavy duty extension cord, just make sure it doesn't get hot. The reason the factory cord has that magnetic feature, is so that it breaks away easily if you trip on it. It prevents it from tipping over, or falling off the counter and burning the crap out of you. I think it's required by law, since I haven't seen ANY fryers without it.

Hey everyone. You can use a 99 cent adapter from 3 prong to 2 prong. That is allowed. Just not an extension cord.
@300Z31
@300Z31 11 лет назад
Although, I will say that if you needed to use an extension cord, a way around it would be to use the extension you need, and then zip-tie any slack so that the 'path of least resistance' for the cord would be the magnet. That way, in a fall...the cord wouldn't extend to allow the fryer to reach the floor with the plug still in. Not sure if that makes sense...but it seems to be a way around the short cord problem.

Jack, the reason they do not want you using an extension cord is due mostly to the amount of power it draws, most extension cords would not handle the voltage draw and over heat, However an Appliance Extension Cord are specially made for Appliances that draw high power, Another great Job as usual

So the reason for the short cord, and for the "no extension cord" warning is so that it doesn't get pulled off the counter and spill hot oil all over a person. No extension cord also helps prevent a fire.

The reason the cord is short is for safety , it's obviously a high amperage device, a long cord or use of an extension cord would cause the cord to heat up and present a fire hazard.
@mikem4432
@mikem4432 6 лет назад
You need to use a heavy duty extension cord.. like 8 to 12 gauge should do it. Lower the gauge the thicker the copper is to avoid heating up.. and that would be a fire hazard if you use a cheap extension cord that are mostly used for light fixtures or a electric drill.

I've used an extension cord for this fryer with no issues. Just make sure its a heavy duty 3 pronged cord for power tools etc.. The issue I've had with using the extension cord is that the weight of the cord pulls the power connector off the fryer. So I had to tie the cord to prevent that from happening. Also this machine is great for frying chicken wings.. Pick up some Tony Chachere Injectable butter. That"s the best!

It's all about voltage drop It depends how far the outlet is from your mains panel ..... At 1650 watts (this appliance's rating) and standard acceptable 5% voltage drop you could use a 75 foot long extension cord if the outlet was RIGHT at the mains panel ... if you have 25 feet of wire (inside the walls from the mains panel to the kitchen or outdoor outlet) ... then a 50 foot 14 gauge extension cord would be fine (for a couple examples) ... If you ponied up the expense for a (difficult to find) 12 gauge extension cord, and the house uses 12 gauge wire (which is popular in new homes) ... you could run 100 feet total house wire and extension cord combined. Hope that makes sense :)

Jack, how did you check the temperature when you estimated it was ready?....I am guessing just lift it out of the oil and rest it on top while inserting the meat thermometer, not sure you could leave a temp probe in the bird while it is in the hot oil like you can in the oven.

I bought this 3 years ago , I never baked a turkey again , 1 hr 15 min my 20 lb turkey is done , people thought I was crazy when they can to my house and saw a raw turkey on the counter lmaooo , don’t worry it’s done in an hour they looked at me like , are you nuts , once they tasted the turkey they said never bake a turkey again because if you I won’t eat it lmaoo. Best thing I ever bought , oh by the way only use peanut oil nothing else , and no the bird does not come out grease , comes out perfect not dry at all , very juicy and moist , trust me you will not regret it , I never have left overs

anthony hernandez I hear you! Serving a fried turkey to those whom have never had it before is always a game changer. I’ve been frying turkeys for almost 20 years now and once I went electric I never looked back. But, I’m curious as to why you suggest only using peanut oil. Sure it imparts a very distinct flavor but before the electric fryer propane was the method to accomplish a fried turkey. That being said, peanut oil was the oil of choice because of its incredibly high smoke point which could be reached and exceeded quickly over a propane fueled cooker, rendering an oil like say vegetable & liquid shortening unsuitable. I’ve used virtually every oil with the exception of olive, coconut & avocado in this electric fryer and have achieved the exact same results, minus the peanut oil flavor of course. But nobody even notices that element. They tear it up all the same...lol

Just got one of these yesterday at a local Wal-Mart $38.00 close out price. Couldn't resist. I usually use a King Kooker set up, but for $38.00 wtf.

Thank you for the info! I love your videos - especially this kind, where you review products and the one where you reveal food claims - my fave was the Tic Tacs!!! xoxox P.S. The leftover turkey wraps really helped me out this year and even made fans of my grandchildren!

I've had one of these for many years. Works decent but the temp drop is huge when you put the turkey in and generally doesn't recover during the cook. Definitely need to have your turkey room temp or close to it. I try not to do over 14 lbs, thats a lot of turkey. I also hate the stupid short cord. 🤣

stupid question alert: did you take the temp while it was submerged or did you pull it out to measure the temp?

Oh and one other point... frying it lying down, a lot of frying oil pools in the body cavity. You should point out that the bird needs to be emptied out before plating and carving.

Hello Information, If you read the Specs it is a high Wattage machine, That is why they have the short lead and specify no extension leads. Because otherwise they would warm up and could short and start an electrical fire. Liking the way it looks and that it looks as though it is fully cooked. Not Liking all the oil that is running out onto the Carving mat? 69 Minutes plus the 45 Minutes to get the Oil up to temperature? By my reckoning that's 114 Minutes. Still a lot better than the 5 hours but longer than the 69 you said Andy C
