I always think about how James Hunt got into his Formula One racing career. He went to a race at the age of 17 with his friends. He saw that this was his passion and he was passionate about it. He spent his days working jobs and making just enough money to get his own car and begin. One thing I've learned is that you don't need to start racing right out of the womb. You don't need to be racing since 6 years old to succeed. You need natural talent and sheer skill and that means you need to be quick witted. You need to learn fast. It's one thing to be able to drive good but it's another thing to handle the G forces of going through corners for almost 2 hours. It's grueling and it's hard but it's possible. James Hunt won the world championship at 29 years of age and he started at 17. I'm getting into Motorsport and I believe it is possible. I don't want to be a Great Formula One driver or the next Dale Earnhardt. You have to offer something different to succeed and you have to trust yourself and trust the natural human ability to dream and to succeed. We are in an age where we are told we can't but we can. Good luck to anyone dreaming of a racing career. It isn't just about winning. It's also about losing and learning how to improve on your losses to win and work for it.
@@arranflood213 local Go Karting is where I started and they have league racing across the country for big events and you work up from there basically. Things will start falling into your lap
@@definitelyjustcj4148 Yo bro completely agree I just turned 18 not long ago and have just started getting into motor sport Ive always had a passion for cars but never a love for racing quite like this I spend pretty much all my money on my 1994 Subaru liberty go karting (and the missus ofc) and I feel as though I could be a bit like an under dog or example for everyone like that guy U were just talking about although not quite at his level is evident that I'm not the quickest but with my age and even being just in top 3 occasionally I feel as tho I'm flying through the ranks all it takes is commitment
Omg man you are absolutely right! I’m almost 18 and I live in a world’s ass where there is only a $5 5min lap on karting. Or in a bigger track for $15 ten minutes. I always dreamt about being a racer and no matter what everyone says that it’s too late, it’s not. If you believe, really work hard, you can do this💪🏼 The biggest and one problem is that with F1 for example teams prefers younger drivers. But I think with some patients and persistence you can convince them! Also being oldest driver who didn’t drive from a cradle can be really hype. Me personally, would be really interesting to see battle between a new-old driver and verstappen😄 So anyone who read this. If you really want this, just try everything you can. Maybe it isn’t THAT impossible)😉
Man, you just reignited my passion for racing. I've already given up this dream thought that it's impossible for me to make it but you opened up all of these opportunities, shown me that there is still a sliver of hope. If I make it then I'll never forget the roots that led me to where I will be.
Good to hear my friend. Give it one last proper shot. The kind of shot where you know that you have given it your ALL. If you still don’t reach what you want then you will be rest assured that you went for it anyway. This makes you the winner no matter what the result.
That's why simracing helps, as it helps you realize that you might have potential. Been simracing for about a year, and am about to start kart racing, so hopefully I have the skill to race there and hopefully beyond.
@@tfomm5781 Haha, I actually didn’t really think anyone would ask, but I’ve started kart racing like I said, and as of now, in the three races I’ve run, I’ve got two podiums to my name, and I’m hopefully gonna continue this momentum, but thanks for asking, and I wish you well in whatever motorsport ventures you may have
Thanks man. Right now I’m 14 and have just gotten into F1 this year and I’ve found a love for it. In the state I live in (California) you can get your work permit. My parents and I are middle class and they have told me that I can ask for things and they could possibly give it to me. The one thing I hate is spending my parents money. I’ve decided to try and find a job and get money to start renting karts and I’ll see where I go. Again thanks. This motivation helps.
That's brilliant buddy. I like your style. However if someone really wants to help you and it can get the ball roilling that bit easier, maybe consider family help. You will work harder to pay them back that way ;-)
Karting is a great place to start and your parents are great. Be cautious with that money, but you don't need to hate spending it. Even if you never make it in motorsport as a driver, the determinism and humbling nature you need in racing will benefit you in any profession you might take.
This is probably the most important video I’ve watched on youtube to date. Completely opened my eyes up about alternative ways to get to where I want to be. Thank you Enzo🙏🏼
Coaching or Instructor for a track or car is a great place to start. You get a lot of hours inside the car and some money. A lot of times teams just need someone who can bring at least some pieces of the car over the line. You also gain a lot of experience in much-needed people skills.
Thank you for all of your videos! Especially this one! I am one of those who guys who doesn't have a lot of money, so this videos really helps me. I am finally able to work up enough money to race go-karts, outside of arrive and drive leagues, but the real problem is the moving up after that. I love it when you make these videos because they keep giving me hope, so thank you!
At the time, I refereed soccer, worked at a restaurant, and did some landscaping jobs. Now I still do some landscaping jobs and work at the same restaurant. With the virus, I am able to work more, so I have a job at Meijer.
I can compete with very good karters at my local track and I am saving for my first kart but at 15 and with a small budget what future could I realistically get to. The people I compete with hold lap records at some kart tracks.
You can go all the way starting at 15, do karting and move to lower formula as soon as you can, I’m 17 and hopping in a 206 kart now, doing ff in two seasons then we’ll see from there. (That is all with money I earn on my own btw) Go meet people who race f4 and f3, they can teach you a ton! Good luck man, don’t give up!
You could always do WEC. If you really have a passion for racing, you do anything that has to do with it. I would be overjoyed if I made WEC or anything motorsport that I loved.
@@mj6463I’m 17 trying to get into racing on a budget (I can prolly get a 50k/year job to fit my budget). How do you recommend I start if my goal is to get into any wec series/team? I don’t have an unrealistic goal like f1 or anything. What do u recommend I start with
@@No-yo8ll a huge thing is just going to local races. I’d recommend going to any local rally events you can just to talk with people and learn. If there aren’t many then also go to other disciplines, ie pro carting and junior series, a lot of folks will have family or friends in other categories. This is the best way to find what series/clubs exist in the local area, (look it up ofc but many have no online presence) and there are also amazing deals you can get on race ready bundles (car+stuff) from people moving or leaving that you would never find online. That’s more important than it seems, if you can get a car that’s already passed tech inspection and has all/most of the spares it needs, you will save a ton of time, headache, and money, that means you will make it to more races. You should definitely do some rallycross if they have it in your area, some of the folks there know a lot about the pro side of rally too. Rally is a pretty small discipline, which makes relationships even more important. Skill is learned, but if you are terrible to be around then you won’t get many seats. (The bar is low, a lot of kids raised in racing are insufferable lol) Also I’m assuming you don’t mean you can spend 50k/year on racing, if that’s the case then you are in a great position. I don’t know enough about progression in rally to tell you how to spend your money. The thing I will say is the sim is underrated, I highly recommend it. Find knowledgeable people, observe, get a car, race. Btw many cars can be sold for around their purchase price, so don’t worry too much about being stuck in whatever you start in, you can often upgrade to different classes/series pretty painlessly. If you are passionate about it, and are willing to work hard even when it isn’t fun, you will do well.
If you wanna get into a position where you get to talk to drivers/riders and stuff crash recovery is amazing. You get access to the paddock and hang out with the drivers (depending on which series your working for). I ended up taking over for a sick driver because I was good friends with the team boss and he knew I was a good driver. Just get into the world and it will help.
I’m currently 16, living in Alaska. Out of all places. I have no access to anything race related. However I’ve been fully immersed in Gran Turismo 7, and I’m really good. Looking at this video, I feel reassured that there is still hope for me, so now I’m kind of thinking on moving somewhere in the lower 48 where I can work within the industry, as soon as I graduate
Racing is not easy and it’s dangerous, and it takes a long time to even get it done right. Even the pros now in days still make mistakes. Racing is always about learning and unforgiving. I’ve always watched videos about couches talking about racing, and watched so many videos, the best I can achieve is F1 racing in a video game lol. If money wasn’t an issue, i would do anything to up my skills and learn. There’s so many more factors to racing that make it seem very hard nearly impossible to achieve. Racing has always caught my attention and I’ve always loved that feeling you get when racing, I’ve always wanted to get into it. Great video man!
This was the same mentality I had as a footballer growing up, its all about being right place right time, fine tunning ur craft and eventually someone will see value in u.
What great timing to find this video, I just got a part time job as a corner Marshall at my local track for the very reason of getting my foot in the door of the industry. For me I have no aspirations of becoming some major driver, but hopefully I can build a network that allows me to get involved with some entry level series like the Miata Spec. Thanks for the great perspective!
I want to get into professional racing. Im tired of my plumbing job and I want to chase my dreams. I absolutely love driving and ive been playing Gran Turismo and Forza since I was a kid. I've beat them both on the hardest difficulty. I can prove it too. I really want this. For the first time in my life I feel like this is calling me to do it. Thank you for this video.
glad i picked oval racing growing up, i’ve had some seat time and i’m pretty quick, just been really broke lately. but sim racing has been keeping me up to par
I’ve always been well aware of the hard work and the expenses can’t say it would officially stop me from completing my formula 1 dream and I always seek advice
This was really informative. My situation is a little different though. Im trying to become the businessmen that can afford joining a team and buying a car. Just bought my first car 2011 308gti to do a year of trackdays with. Getting experience and saving for joining the starter/cheapest racing series next year. I know Im no good for a proffesional career, just want to do it as a hobby withouth going broke doing so :). (Ps: Im 30 and just got my first decent paying job)
Hi Enzo, coming from a middle class family..I first wanna complete my education as a backup and then concentrate on Motorsports ( touring cars)..till then I'm concentrating on SIM racing and Karting, my question is if I start focussing on making a career in touring cars at an age of 24-25.. will I be late in terms of age?..
Dude, there is a vid from Enzo that is 10 minutes of Enzo saying that age doesn't matter, just make a little bit of search in Enzo's channel and you will find it
Don’t ask age. I hate that question. If you’re asking about age, you’re already lost. You’re looking for outs, reasons to fail. The only questions you should ask about any competitive interest you have is “how do i get better”, “how do i win”. You DO NOT ask about what disqualifies you.
Howdy Enzo, from watching your video it really opened my ears better on ways to get into the Driver Seat one day. But I have two questions, first what did you do/drive when you started out. Then secondly, people say you should start out at kart racing and which I have some experience with it but should I start there or should I just look for a job in the Racing World. Love your content bro, thanks.
Hi mate. Thanks for the comment. I basically got my race licence when I was 17, but then took a couple of years to get the money together to race. I started with a Formula Ford championship and won the championship in the second year. In the first year I just ran myself and did it on a shoestring budget. You don’t have to start in karting, it’s just good when you are too young to race cars. I didn’t kart.
I don’t want to be an F1 driver, I just want to try all different types of racing and get really good at each of them like circuit racing, rally, motocross, supermoto gp, drifting. I just don’t know where to go to start. I don’t know anyone in it and I don’t know where to go? I live in San Antonio area of Texas.
I just now found a love for racing weather it be formula and karting I just want to get on the track and make a careers out of it this video helped a lot thank you so much!
I will be at the age to enter F4 (14), I'm just not sure how to pay for the stuff, I suppose I would need to impress a team enough. Thank you so much Enzo, wish I found you earlier.
Hi, I'm also 14 and having the same issue, I've been thinking about f4 as i really want rscing as a career cuz i can't imagine myself elsewhere when I'm older, ik this has nothing to do with ur comment, i'm just relieved that there r people with the same issue as me, i hope u get into f4 soon!! :)
I’m 13 about to be 14 what I’m doing is just going to karting and I go from there because remember pacing your self is one of the most important things and also it’s not gonna happen quick but I can also relate
heres the thing, i dont want to do it professionally as nice as it would be, i just want to go wheel to wheel so that i can fully live out the dream and honestly say I am a racecar driver, i dont want fame and to make money off of it, i want the joy of it
I’m 18 and have wanted to be a racing driver since I was a kid. as a kid from age 11 to 14 I did karting but stopped because we coudnt afford it. I have a bmw e46 330 I take to canyons and have a friend who has many old bmws very fast ones I’ve driven. I have the natural skill for racing for not doing it very much and for never been to a track I just need more practice to be great. My parents are in the movie industry and I want to do stunt driving for movies and have an in because they know many people and friends of theirs are stunt drivers. The problem is they are similar but 2 different paths that I would have to go into. Stunt driving takes time and effort to and I wouldn’t really be able to be any of them if I focus on both. Can stunt driving help get into racing or are they two different beasts that I wouldn’t be able to focus on both?
Hi. Yes they are totally different disciplines. I’d say that if money is tight then stunt driving would be the more wise option. I know it’s not easy for both but also think which one you will be better at, they both require you to be good at the individual craft.
I beat max verstappen 10 years ago in karts but couldn’t pursue it as a career when my parents divorced and now I work in a factory watching him on f1 beating Hamilton. I wrote a song which is trending on tiktok and got some money to get back into it. I’m 25 and going to try become a paid driver and if I don’t make it; If I ever have a son atleast I will be able to make him something as a paid racer if he wants it
It’s a good thing I have natural talent but I don’t have enough hours and that’s what I am working on right now racing on the sim everyday and going to the track every day I’m free to get the hours in
For me, I feel like I can pick things up, and if I put enough time and effort in I'd be good at it. However I haven't got the money to do most of them. I'm good at sailing, the only reason is because of cadets. Flying I'm alright at, but I've only logged one hour because of financial reasons. Racing is something I've wanted to do for a while, but I just don't have the money to do it full time. I don't even know if I'd be good at it, and I honestly don't enjoy having to speak to people, but that's a part of life. Maybe I'm just a quiet person, or I'm nervous. But what I do know, is that I can get things done when they need to be done.
DUUUUUUUUUUUDE YOU'RE 11 WHY ARE YOU ASKING THIS QUESTION 😂. You're still kind of a kid so if you got the money that's a big plus now all you need is to spend 4 years at karting getting good and fast and at 15 if you still have the cash you can move to F4!
I have started working at a karting track and i am starting racing this year i have already met some big names (ex f1 driver and a le mans class winner) just because of my karttrack job and i hope they can help me in my career
Well done so far. Yes I agree, get as much honest feedback and advice as you can. Obviously it will also ways come down to money and your speed but getting the right advice is golden
Not bigging myself up but I have alot of natural skill (I was told everytime I race karts) in racing go karts anyway I smoked champions in my country just can't afford to race yet but I'm working on it
ive already attempted to work at my local kart track and soon will…. i am competing in the league races too… thanks alot! i feel great knowing ive tried something before you even said it makes me feel like my mindset is really in the right place…. to not try is the ultimate fail! thank you
21 Y.O here, I’ve been wanting to do this for so long. This has given me hope, but I do wanna know, what is the “brand” that sponsors usually look for? I’m also wondering, what kind of sponsors are used, companies that sell products or..?
Thank you, Enzo, for every single video that you are doing for us. I have a basic question, but please help me: I am searching for a cheap racing championship, but I can't find one. I live in Europe and I can get in 2/3 hours to Hungaroring. I hope that someone could tell me a cheap championship. It doesn't have to be at Hungaroring, but somewhere near there (in the 200 km range from there). I would like open wheelers, but I also don't mind other types of cars. I have no experience in real life racing, but I have some in sim racing. I want to thank you again, because I know I will use what you thought us!
I've heard one, but I don't know if it's an Italian or a European level championship: Formula Predators. It may not be near you, but you can ask people close to them, they can know more championships like these.
@@patrickcornac7212 I have looked at formula predators and I have a question: what would be the next step in racing, because I want to progress? Is this a good series from where you can go to a higher level?
R is for Racing, to be honest, I'm not into real life racing, and I know nothing about other championships. I heard about Formula Predators in Alberto Nasca's RU-vid channel randomly, he raced a few races there 3 months ago... Maybe you can find the information you need there. I told you this championship in case it was helpful, but I don't know much about it. Hope this information is helpful.

Hi Enzo so I'm honestly putting this comment because ur the only person who can help me . I have been racing for a national level in gt4 for quite a while and Ihave been in podiums and wins in most races . I got an offer of a team in gt3 but they asking a lot of money . Trying so hard to find sponsors ( I talk to 15 people every day whether on emails or person) but nothing. Now I have a choice to either start a business and finance my own racing or go for esport ( I'm always ranked in the top 10 in Gran Turismo) which one you think I should focus on to get to a pro level of racing ? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it
Maybe some know bc of MotoGP. But i go to college in the Netherlands at the TT circuit. Its absolutely crazy. They got massive sponsors and they got their own kart team for the students
Two things. Really focus on learning how to earn money and get small backers, plus look for anything that is affordable. Race anything you can, no championship is too small. If you win it, make enough noise about it and constantly pick up small sponsors, then the momentum can start to grow. It’s a long game but start now and by the time you are 18 you might have something.
@@EnzoMucci oh and I hate to bother. Thanks by the way. I'm a british citizen but I'm currently living in the U.S.A. does this hurt my chances? I just want to get to at least F2 of anything but since theres no U.S. team I'm aware of I dont think it'll quite be possible
The teams don’t care what country you are from. This year we competed against Logan Sargeant and Cameron Das, they are both from the States. If you get the money together ($2.5million) and have the right licence for F2 when you are older, then you can just travel back and forth or get a sportsmen visa to stay longer in Europe.
Ive wanted to race for a while but not American motorsport, I wanna do GT racing like LeMans but as an American ive been discouraged due to the lack of American drivers in the career
Don’t be discouraged buddy, it isn’t country biased in Le Mans. I went there a few years ago with Gustavo Menezes, being American actually helps because most manufacturers want to sell cars in the States. Big market.
Well for as far as karting goes you could get into it for mostly free through things such as SWS which is powered by IAME and allows people to race without owning gear or a kart
That’s a good question. Literally the first person to ask that. I will do tomorrow’s video on this. I was just wondering what to speak about tomorrow. Thanks, I’ll give you a mention
1:34 i know it might not happen, i live in cape town, South Africa and can't get to kaylami or zwartkop sibce they're both in Gauteng province and finding something in cape town that's affordable has been really difficult, its been about a year and half of looking for a place to start and I know sim racing isn't real racing and im not that great but im getting faster as im going on with learning, its been tough especially since i don't have something to drive, cars that are race ready start at around 150k but im searching for that 15 to 20 thousand formula vee car to get onto a track and get some real proper experience
Well we have the money but its mostly at my grandmother which was basicly my grandfather and he probably wanted me to race but he died and the money went to my grandmother
Silly question regarding casual karting. Say someone (in the UK) did karting here and there, maybe during the F1 buzz, an odd weekend, for a lads meet up or even for a friend’s birthday party, if you did a handful of rounds but managed to show you are good at overtaking, good at taking the race line and generally being a good driver (respectful in terms of being careful and knowing when and when not to overtake), could you potentially be “scouted” to join F4 or other racing? Basically what I’m saying is, if your lucky enough to be doing karting for fun on a day there’s a scout from an academy or someone from a company looking to sponsor someone, coming to checkout an actual event, is there a possibility they could potentially approach you?
Hi mate. It is not likely to happen I’m afraid. They may look at drivers who are doing British kart club racing (which doesn’t cost too much), but even then, they will offer you a drive but you will have to pay. F4 is currently about £350k per season. Some spend £750k if they do lot of testing and the UAE series over winter to warm up for the main championship.
Pretty decent video Enzo, is there any difference if someone has the ambition to be a team owner ? I've been trying for the past few years to start a racing related business as my way into the industry but damn it's hard to even get a look in for funding xD
That’s ok mate, that’s a natural fear. Once you get in the car though and you start learning and take one step at a time, and you get your arse kicked a few times, you understand that it’s not so bad and that you actually learn from each loss. If you don’t go for it now then you will forget live in regret, that’s worse than going for it and being slow. I have a mental training book coming out in the next month that is designed for this, watch this space.
See it like this :when you want to go into motorsport you just get a miata, everywhere there is a league for stock miata you can easy join this is also motorsport just like racing with bicycles with a engine attached to it (yeah here in Germany we got this a couple miles away) or lawn mower racing, also motorsport it's not just f1.
Man i think i got talent but my family doesnt have that kind of money but i think i have the skill and the talent only if i have the chance i am gonna prove it that im good . Trust me!!!
@@EnzoMucci oh hey,is it possible to be a racer if someone spotted you in sim racing?(i want to start as a sim racer in order to get skill so that i may apply my sim racing skills in real life)
Believe it or not, yes. They might not spot you just by racing unless you are part of a competition that is designed for that purpose, so make sure you live stream your races on Twitch and make a lot of noise. I worked in the same team as Igor Fraga briefly last year, he is a success story from Gran Tourismo

Hello, I’m 14 years old and I started go karting two months ago and one six out of eight races. And I had no experience before that and now I feel like I have a good feel for it. My plan is to get into formula 4 at the age of 18 or 19. Do you think that I would be too old to join formula for at that age? And also how much would it cost if a joint formula 4?
Not too old for F4 at 18 but on the late side. A lot of future F1 drivers will be in F3 by then. But still, if you are winning in F4 at that age then you can still do something. British F4 costs around £220,000 and European costs about £300,000. Depends on team and how much testing.
Man I don't want to really disturb you but I would like to make a conversation with you also with simply messages because i'm a karting driver that is sponsored by many people, and some people say I'm preatty skilled but i don't know how to do the step that will take me to a race car driver. If you can I would like to have a conversation. (Your video is incredible and teaches to people that are entering motorsport)
Enzo I have a small issue here,I am 15 and last year I had gone rental karting for my birthday. Even the owner of the track was impressed by my first time talent, I want to take go the next level but I cant seem to convince anyone that I can go places with this and my dad simply says he doesnt have money to spend on a kart but he does have to restore his old Merc. How can I make it clear to my parents that I can get into karting because in my country to get a kart and all the stuff I need its a trip from Zimbabwe to South Africa. Is my career over before it started
It’s not over mate, you just have to understand that you are going to have to do this on your own. I had the same problem, took me until I was 19 years old to get my first race car because of it. This is on your shoulders, it’s your journey not your parents. Start to get to work.
Go back to the track and beg the owner to let you work for track time, clean Karts, sweep the floor show your desire, if he says no go back every day try to identify something that needs to be done and offer to do it.
Just because he said this dosent mean it's true, yes you might have a tiny tiny chance but if you get the hours in and train hard you might have that tiny shot dont live in regret and not do it, do it!! BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!!! im going to try get a go kart and start I might be 15 and not that rich but nothing is impossible im going to do it, and if I fail atleast I had fun!!
Hey Enzo, I am 12 years old, I haven't got much more than 800€ of budget and I have been wanting to enter motorsports for a long time and i've also been to some sim racing tournaments but I can't even afford the maintainance of a small kart it would mean the world to me if you gave me some advice to enter in this world (I don't mean f1 I mean any kind of car motorsport)
Hey buddy, there are some simple arrive and go Karting championships, im sure that there exist loads of this type of championships, don't worry, get some simple experience and then search sponsors and then you are good to go, these arrive and drive championships are kinda cheap so go for them for the time being, you are still young (as your comment says), you need the experience and then make the move up
if you had a dream on being in fifa or nba or anything like that you know ur chances are very low same thing applies to F1 If you still have passion for motor sports then you can do karting or small race programs that can cost roughly upto 100$ a race
I have the skill, I’ve been in several karting tourneys using my friends backup kart, and I’ve won 1 tourney. I just don’t have the money. I get it. I won’t make it.
Don’t say that, many people who have money don’t have skill, and personally I’d much rather have the skill. As said in the video your best shot is to work in the industry. If you have the skill, you will get the opportunity ;)
